Can't see a thread about it. We loved it. Sat down together to watch it just like we did some of the earlier ones when the kids were little (in their 30s now!). What a terrific job the voice actor playing Wallace did! Just like Peter Sallis.

Best thing that's been on all Christmas IMO.

Gromit breaking the 4th wall when Wallace said 'it's voice activated' had me in stitches.

Also loved Feathers McGraw stroking the seal, James Bond style. 😂

The police don't actually arrive, in the original short Feathers is walked to the station by the wrong trousers.
Before that point we see him stuck in a milk bottle, lots of time to hide the diamond, between them getting him out and tying him up.

The issue I have is that the teapot is in the final scene sitting between Wallace and Gromit, I find it hard to believe it wasn't used then to pour their tea.

And he has a beak.....

Thank you, that makes sense

It was fab. My 5 year old Grandson squealed with joy when he spotted the farmer from Shaun the sheep. He was entranced with it all and was roaring with laughter,
I didn’t realise he’d never seen any Wallace and Gromit.

JiminaSlump · 26/12/2024 20:04

Did anyone else feel the Mines of Moria (sp?) reference when Gromit hears the banging and clanging in the basement? Or did I just read too much into that bit?

So did DD (aged 24 Grin)

No, which bit did you mean?

The high security zoo was a terrific idea.

Right at the beginning as it started, on the screen were the words:

'A long time ago...'

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/12/2024 11:24

Aha! Thanks. I really am going to have to watch again.

We are going to rewatch tonight 😁

I too am going to have to watch it again, I knew about ‘no Parkin’ before I saw it and still missed it.

Smart gnome was wonderfully unhinged, I love Reece.

I’m out on my own here as my family all think it’s hilarious but I’ve never liked Wallace and Grommit. I’m 41 so feel like I should have been peak age for watching it as a kid but it bored me then and it it’s never grown on me.
I try to find it nostalgic but I can’t it’s just rubbish.

Genuinely interested to know what made you decide to come here and write this. There are plenty of tv shows, series and films I don’t like but it wouldn’t occur to me to seek out a discussion thread to announce to all the fans that I think the thing they love is “just rubbish”. Please enlighten me.

WGACA · 30/12/2024 02:18

I loved it too! So clever and I cannot comprehend the hours of work and patience you'd need to work in animation. I will watch it again soon.

I agree. It isn't rubbish. It is very clever and very well done. It just isn't to @ByHeartyCyanMentor's taste.

Maybe they have a different sense of humour or don't understand the humour in the films - the names of people, no parkin, done nicking etc.

AmazingGraze · 30/12/2024 09:55

I’m definitely going to watch it again. Something of this quality is so rare.

So am I. From the comments on this thread I think I have missed a lot of references. Plus, it won't be a hardship to watch it again Smile

Namerchangee · 30/12/2024 11:11

I thought this was an absolute delight - the best thing on tv this Christmas. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish and such a joy to watch with my kids.

I agree!

Wallace and Gromit is not going to be everyone's cup of tea (and that goes for all comedy) but it’s objectively impressive stuff and not rubbish.

Pianoaholic · 30/12/2024 13:01

Totally agree that this was the best Christmas tv this year.
I wondered if there was a reference to the sorcerer's apprentice (Disney fantasia film with mickey mouse and all the broomsticks!) when all the extra norbots appeared!
But possibly I'm overthinking!

We thought the same!

MysteriousUsername · 30/12/2024 13:38

We loved it. My now young adults grew up watching Wallace & Gromit. We watched all the previous films after we'd opened our presents, while I was preparing Christmas dinner. Then watched the new one, and they all loved it. I fell asleep and missed the middle of it Blush but I watched it again, love all the references that are in it.

Such amazing work that goes into making them. Give it all the awards!

rookiemere · 30/12/2024 14:47

We loved it - I feel like I probably missed a lot of the little things though, like I wouldn't have noticed the Yorkshire/Lancashire borders signs if that hadn't been pointed out on FB.
Does anyone know if there's an article somewhere that might point out more missed gems, or do I just need to rewatch it ?

ThePineappleSeahorse · 30/12/2024 15:13

@rookiemere

Not an article I’m afraid but people list all of the references here.
