Can't see a thread about it. We loved it. Sat down together to watch it just like we did some of the earlier ones when the kids were little (in their 30s now!). What a terrific job the voice actor playing Wallace did! Just like Peter Sallis.

I loved the bit where they slapped the cuffs on Feathers but his flippers are conical.

It was brilliant throughout.

He played the keys on the organ too.

Did anyone catch that Wallace played the theme tune on his piano?

FizzingAda · 26/12/2024 09:27

It was brilliant. I love how Feathers, with no facial expressions, is sooo sinister. The scene with the seal, pup was rib cracking! What imaginations, they deserve an Ascar for this!

I’m out on my own here as my family all think it’s hilarious but I’ve never liked Wallace and Grommit. I’m 41 so feel like I should have been peak age for watching it as a kid but it bored me then and it it’s never grown on me.
I try to find it nostalgic but I can’t it’s just rubbish.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/12/2024 09:32

He played the keys on the organ too.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, of course.

I wonder how many film references would sail over (or in this case, under) people too young to remember Sunday afternoons with nowt to do but watch classic films?
I'm undoubtedly missing some newer references!

I'm sure even someone who isn't a fan can appreciate the absolute years of work the animators put in to these projects, it's an art form which is dying.
Aardman are pretty much the last company still doing stop motion in the world right now, because it's not cheap or quick, so the turnaround time is long.
It is beautiful.

Oh I get they put a lot of work into it. They are skilled artists.
I’d still turn it off if I had the choice - just not for me.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 26/12/2024 09:36

Loved it. Can't wait for the next one. Never ceases to amaze me how clever they are! It needed a mild peril warning though for the scene with Gromit and the boat (no spoilers).

noblegiraffe · 26/12/2024 10:03

31 years since The Wrong Trousers, unbelievable.

This was fabulous, so funny, so many references. "Good grief, it's you! AGAIN"

The scene on the aqueduct was spectacular, I genuinely feared for Gromit.

After so many recent soulless sequels that have just felt like they are using the original as a cash cow, this felt like it was made with genuine love.

There was a rather poignant moment which I didn’t spot at the time when Peter Sallis’ coat and hat from Last of The Summer Wine were hung in the hallway, I love the little details

Oh, I missed that - how lovely.

Tortielady · 26/12/2024 10:18

Like any good supervillain, Feathers McGraw can launch a crimewave while he's still behind bars. And his Bond villain thing was brilliant. Or was he channelling a bit of Game of Thrones when he swivels round in his chair and the back of it frames him?

We loved it and will definitely be going back for more.

I also missed this, what a lovely tribute.

Drivingoverlemons · 26/12/2024 10:22

Absolutely loved this! I love watching out for all the little detail, like Gromit reading A Room of One’s Own when he’s sharing a room with the robot, and then Paradise Lost by John Stilton.

noblegiraffe · 26/12/2024 10:23

The cameo of the farmer from Shaun the Sheep!

zaxxon · 26/12/2024 10:26

Thanks for that Guardian article! I missed this one: "Gromit’s record collection this time around contains Walkies on the Wildside"

Shortpoet · 26/12/2024 10:40

Loved it too, especially the very slow canal chase, and the ridiculously long set up so they could have the punchline, “Give it some welly, Gromit!”

TheGriffle · 26/12/2024 10:42

We love Wallace and Gromit in our house but didn’t quite love this one. We felt likeWallace was barely in it and it felt very Peter Kay centric.

It was also slightly farcical how he managed to somehow tap into Wallace’s computer to change Norbot’s settings.

We like the canal boat chase and Feathers and Gromits weariness at Wallace’s inventions though.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/12/2024 10:43

It was entirely farcical. That was the point.

And Walkies on the Wild Side in Grommit’s record collection

ohtowinthelottery · 26/12/2024 10:51

Adult DS rolled his eyes when I suggested watching it, but even he laughed most of the way through it.

BigBangBang · 26/12/2024 10:53

‘Madame Butter Pie’ on the last train carriage…
I grew up in Butter Pie land, so this tickled me.

Saucery · 26/12/2024 07:16

Gromit’s eyeroll when Wallace said “He’s voice activated!” was classic.

I loved that bit as well 😂

LadyPenelope68 · 26/12/2024 10:59

Absolutely loved it! We watched it as a family and my sons (now 22 and 26) laughed hilariously throughout. It reminded me of watching it years ago when they were younger, brought back very happy memories.

Falafelolive · 26/12/2024 11:02

We thought it was brilliant. Excellent Christmas telly
