Can't see a thread about it. We loved it. Sat down together to watch it just like we did some of the earlier ones when the kids were little (in their 30s now!). What a terrific job the voice actor playing Wallace did! Just like Peter Sallis.

Another one who absolutely loved it! It was so funny! And the plot excellently crafted. I love Dr Who, but it didn't fare well in comparison, but I guess that's a different thread.

(Spoiler alert although hopefully not needed as everyone seems to have already seen it)

I loved this but have a plot question. I let go the fact mentioned above that Feathers can somehow hack into Wallace’s computer from the zoo’s office computer 😆. HOWEVER I still don’t understand how he did the switch of the diamond and the turnip when he was tied up in Wallace’s kitchen waiting for the police to arrive. Did anyone who was less zonked on trifle than I was manage to work this out??

shockeditellyou · 26/12/2024 11:08

I thought the police characters were rubbish - could have removed them entirely and their bits felt added only to stretch out the whole thing, rather than the usual 30 min format. Also agree that there was too much Peter Kay, the gnomes didn’t need all the dialog.

All the other details and characters were spot on. W&G works because of the visual gags and because of the W&G relationship, with a foil. Loved the animation and all the “hidden” gags.

shockeditellyou · 26/12/2024 11:09

PS loved the Shaun the Sheep farmer cameo!

hagchic · 26/12/2024 11:11

This was the thing we were all waiting to watch together and it went down very well.

Gromit’s eyeroll when Wallace said “He’s voice activated!” was classic.

That was my favourite line in the whole thing.

MrsAvocet · 26/12/2024 11:30

We loved it. Definitely the best thing on tv this Christmas. I'll watch it again over the next few days to try spot the references I missed first time. Is Feathers working out in his cell from The Shawshank Redemption?
It's all incredibly clever. I do wonder what people who aren't British make of it, or even whether Southerners really "get it" completely. The appeal is probably greatest to Northerners of a certain age, and I'm both, though my young adult DC loved it too. There are probably references to more modern films etc that I missed though. I think they've cleverly kept sufficiently up to date to keep younger audiences engaged plenty of references to the older films for long term fans.I could have done with a bit less Peter Kay - I'm not a fan - but otherwise it was perfect.

slightlydistrac · 26/12/2024 11:37

Did anyone else spot the Star Wars nod at the very beginning?

We love Wallace and Gromit in our house but didn’t quite love this one. We felt likeWallace was barely in it and it felt very Peter Kay centric.

It was also slightly farcical how he managed to somehow tap into Wallace’s computer to change Norbot’s settings.

We like the canal boat chase and Feathers and Gromits weariness at Wallace’s inventions though.

I suspect there is a very good reason Wallace was barely in it and the focus was on a recurring character (Peter Kay's police officer)...

It's the first main outing for Ben Whitehead as Wallace, and while he's obviously perfectly capable, it may have felt very daunting giving him pages and pages of dialogue in his first appearance.

So to ease the transition I think they've given more to the supporting crew, in this case the only other recurring character with lines, Sargent Macintosh.

As it happened Ben did wonderfully, and has been accepted by everyone but they only know this with hindsight.

Did anyone notice the Cape Fear music when Feathers was working out in the jail/zoo. Will definitely watch again x

No, which bit did you mean?

The high security zoo was a terrific idea.

I wasn't sure, but when the rotational welly thing appeared on the canal boat, was it a nod to Apocalypse Now?

NettleTea · 26/12/2024 11:51

and the question my son, the computer science student asked, but WHY did they code an evil mode???

Loved it, might actually be my favourite so far. Lovely stuff.

Because it’s fun! As were the other options, like ‘boorish’ and ‘slightly selfish’.

yes we did love the options on that drop down menu!

SuburbanCrofter · 26/12/2024 11:58

I don't think anyone has mentioned my favourite bit yet, which is when the gnome is charging in Gromit's room.

Did anyone guess Wallace's password? I was shouting 'Wensleydale!' at the television, I was almost right 😁

My daughter said this too.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/12/2024 12:01

Yes, the voice was very nearly perfect. I always miss many of the jokes first watch because I get so wrapped up in looking at the detail of the modelling, it’s just incredible.

I guessed Wensleydale too

doodleschnoodle · 26/12/2024 12:20

Just introduced DD1(5) to Wallace and Gromit through it! She never wants to watch films as she's worried they will be scary, but she sat and watched this the whole way through, totally glued to it. She now wants to watch all the others, success! Such great fun.

Yes I did! I think apart from the Bond reference this was the only film ref I actually got.

I think I need to watch it again.

rc22 · 26/12/2024 12:25

We loved it. Not usually Wallace and Gromit fans but we really enjoyed this one!

ChessorBuckaroo · 26/12/2024 12:33

FizzingAda · 26/12/2024 09:27

It was brilliant. I love how Feathers, with no facial expressions, is sooo sinister. The scene with the seal, pup was rib cracking! What imaginations, they deserve an Ascar for this!

One of the great villains. Think that was what was missing in that last film they did (curse of were Rabbit). The tv shows have all been fabulous.

Will catch this on iplayer later.
