Can't see a thread about it. We loved it. Sat down together to watch it just like we did some of the earlier ones when the kids were little (in their 30s now!). What a terrific job the voice actor playing Wallace did! Just like Peter Sallis.

I think the working out in his cell is a Cape Fear nod.

That's funny, I saw it & thought of Linda Hamilton doing the same in Terminator 2! But you're probably right since there were other Cape Fear refs elsewhere, in the boat chase for instance.

I think poor Feathers is just misunderstood really. More sad than bad. How can anyone not love a penguin...

Needmorelego · 26/12/2024 12:46

@NettleTea I was another one that said that !
Why have evil as an option 😂

BrainWontWorkAnymore · 26/12/2024 13:02

no one has mentioned the Italian Job, The Secret Garden or Harry Potter!

And of course, the Blue Peter badge

sweetydahling · 26/12/2024 13:11

Liked the main feature well enough but LOVED Feathers in The Traitors!

noblegiraffe · 26/12/2024 13:11

Gromit’s lovely garden that he clearly enjoys creating and maintaining being taken away from him and given to a robot to do (badly) and this being seen as a positive thing by the inventor of the robot was very interesting coming from a team of human animators who are increasingly seeing their jobs going to AI.

It reminds me of that thing on social media about how we wanted robots to do the dull chores so that we could spend time creating art and literature and somehow that has gone horribly wrong.

Did anyone else spot the very brief "Hector's House" reference?

I loved the Batman Returns reference.

I'm actually not a huge W&G fan, i watched the others when I was younger but always been a bit meh on them; but loved this- best thing I've watched this year!

Exactly the same here!

FuckItItsFine · 26/12/2024 14:08

The “Evil Mode” thing reminded me of the Simpsons episode where a Krusty doll is trying to kill Homer and they realised he’s actually had his switch flipped from “Good” to the “Evil” setting.

Loved this.

That’s just his Cunning Disguise..😀

JT69 · 26/12/2024 14:36

It was a real treat . I need to watch again for those references.

I don't think anyone has mentioned my favourite bit yet, which is when the gnome is charging in Gromit's room.

Did anyone guess Wallace's password? I was shouting 'Wensleydale!' at the television, I was almost right 😁

That was my favourite bit too, when Norbot stops chuntering and goes quiet you just KNOW he's going to start up again but it's still funny when he does.

I was thinking 'surely not Wensleydale'.... Because that's the one detail that was wrong in previous films... why would Wallace like a not particularly nice Yorkshire cheese, when there's so many much nicer Lancashire ones?

It's all incredibly clever. I do wonder what people who aren't British make of it, or even whether Southerners really "get it" completely. The appeal is probably greatest to Northerners of a certain age, and I'm both, though my young adult DC loved it too.

Hallelujah for an animated film aimed primarily at a demographic other than 'American child'!Grin

We loved it as well.

It takes me back to the days before streaming TV channels when there would be a big TV film premiere on Christmas day of a film that most people won't have seen and the whole family would sit together to enjoy the film.

The attention to detail was brilliant - Virginia Woof, Anton Deck, Onya Doorstep, Dun Nicking, No Parkin and many more. So clever and so amusing. Love, love, love the Wallis and Gromit films.

This and Gavin and Stacey were the absolute winners on Christmas day for me.

I think I read the reason for Wensleydale was because of the mouth movement, it allows for the mouth to go from a small circle to full teeth in wide mouth and back.

Saucery · 26/12/2024 17:19

I can’t be the only person trying out saying ‘Wensleydale’ in my phone screen now, can I?

(Spoiler alert although hopefully not needed as everyone seems to have already seen it)

I loved this but have a plot question. I let go the fact mentioned above that Feathers can somehow hack into Wallace’s computer from the zoo’s office computer 😆. HOWEVER I still don’t understand how he did the switch of the diamond and the turnip when he was tied up in Wallace’s kitchen waiting for the police to arrive. Did anyone who was less zonked on trifle than I was manage to work this out??

The police don't actually arrive, in the original short Feathers is walked to the station by the wrong trousers.
Before that point we see him stuck in a milk bottle, lots of time to hide the diamond, between them getting him out and tying him up.

The issue I have is that the teapot is in the final scene sitting between Wallace and Gromit, I find it hard to believe it wasn't used then to pour their tea.

blubberball · 26/12/2024 19:02

Loved it and I need to watch it again with my kids

Fronted by Anton Deck 😂😂

The tidying up of the garden caused me near physical pain!

But agree with you about AI, even though DS works in AI.

Loved it otherwise. I thought there was a reference to Isengard from LOTR when the gnomes are rebuilding the cellar.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 26/12/2024 19:20

We joked that the garden scene needed a trigger warning for me - unforgivable!

I agree about the Isengard reference. I'm also pretty sure one of the characters looked like a minion very briefly but I can't remember which. I'll just have to rewatch it - shame!
