The rest of the thread title

"For it's not easy to not get lipsed on the down low without someone getting lippy. Casper is still dying of cringe and Shitlid sees no way out. For we are all scrambling for our dignity, whilst watching the utter mockery"

It was a joint effort by us all.

I've tried googling it but can't find any mention of it as a saying but it definitely was. It says it's easy to learn as well so now I'm totally confused. Mandela effect?

I typed it into a search engine and this is what I got back "This phrase could be rooted in assumptions and stereotypes about race, ethnicity, and language. Swahili is a language spoken predominantly in East Africa, and using it in this context might suggest a dismissive attitude toward African languages or imply that the person you’re speaking to is somehow “foreign” or “different,” which reinforces harmful stereotypes.
In general, it’s important to be mindful of how language can unintentionally carry racial or ethnic connotations. Making a comment like this in a racially charged or sensitive environment can easily come across as offensive, even if not intended that way, because it may invoke broader histories of marginalization or exoticization of African cultures."

Maybe Polly should have asked him if he was speaking Irish?

dapsnotplimsolls · 24/10/2024 20:17

'Below dongles' 😁

LessonsinChemistryandLove · 24/10/2024 20:18

I don’t want to take this to the new thread but I’ve used the Swahili/dutch etc phrase and it’s not unusual in my circles, early 30s. I can see what you’re saying @VictoriaSpungecake but I don’t think she meant it like there and I wouldn’t be surprised that most people wouldn’t make that connection. Alex is not coming across well and I do think the editing this year has been bad but honestly, I think he’s just a dickhead, like most of the cast has been this year.

dapsnotplimsolls · 24/10/2024 20:18

I'm sure we can fill this bugger up before 9.

dapsnotplimsolls · 24/10/2024 20:19

If we respect the forum.

Tittat50 · 24/10/2024 20:21

@VictoriaSpungecake agreed ref no focus on Ryan. I also pointed out, he is potentially even worse as he looks like he's more covert than Alex. That's scary. Alex can't help but give himself away if you watch and listen to all he says.

Intent was pointed out here today. So far Polly is not coming across to me as someone with values I admire. So I cannot comment on her intent but I certainly wouldn't die on a hill defending hers. It very much could be a micro aggression for sure.

I could also believe she's just an air head. I am not an air head, ( no seriously I'm not 😬), yet have used a term Richelle used with absolutely no clue to it's secondary meaning.

I read Sacha's response to him on that one as a reaction to his ridiculous bragging. He called out her cheap jewellery, was bragging about his car. That to me was belittling her and her lack of wealth or family wealth. She just called it out. He is beneath her. And it isn't because of his colour.

I said previously, there's a responsibility and obligation on the production team here and they have failed in multiple ways! I'm surprised in this day and age they've got away with it.

Tittat50 · 24/10/2024 20:25

Let's all just agree they're all bell ends in their own glorious ways.

I need Shitlid for light relief this evening. Why hasn't he gone topless with just a towel yet? I don't want to see Gaston's swollen breasts on display talking about teabagging any more. Come on Shitters, pull it out bag duck. 😍

I am a black woman and it would give me a few seconds pause for thought if someone said that to me.

It would definitely push a few of my buttons if someone like Sasha told me she was above me.

(yes, and I realise that last sentence is somewhat loaded)

dapsnotplimsolls · 24/10/2024 20:25

In the Oz one, they seem to have got better at calling people out, particularly John/Pob.

Dillite2 · 24/10/2024 20:26

You know what I want to know? Since when is having a Range Rover a status symbol? It's a shit car that breaks down, is driven generally by twats who can't afford a decent BMW, can't be insured in most of London and is just generally a sorry excuse of a car.

They're being heavily directed by production I imagine? I used to really respect and value Paul and his insights.

I love how John calls it out on Oz version.

Do we need to send you for 're-education' again? 😀

RancidRuby · 24/10/2024 20:27

I think if Polly had said "are YOU speaking Swahili?" in response to not understanding what Alex was saying then that could have a racial bias to it. But she actually said "am I speaking Swahili?" so was implying that Alex didn't understand what she was saying. Surely if she was conferring him being black with him not understanding she would have used a non African language to make her point?

Tittat50 · 24/10/2024 20:28

She said she was above him before he made the comment about the car. he was responding to that. He laughed and said that she couldn't be above him because she has no car and no house.

Listen, I have to go now. Got work to do. Have fun kids.

JaneJeffer · 24/10/2024 20:29

I think the whole episode should be Shitlid giving dance lessons

That's far too nuanced, Ruby. And the logic of unconscious bias doesn't quite work like that.

dapsnotplimsolls · 24/10/2024 20:30

Ewwww.

Pieandchips999 · 24/10/2024 20:31

Oh god Shitlid needs to keep his clothes on. What has this show done to you all. See Sacha was technically in the wrong too but Alex is such a massive manipulative creepy arsehole that I'm afraid he deserved everything he got. Sacha lowered herself a bit but at the same time you can't help cheer her on
