I don’t usually watch this program on channel four but put it on by accident and have just watched the second part on More four on demand .I just have some thoughts on it and if any one has watched it please discuss with me here especially if you have watched both. It is the one about the murder of Eliza.

I wonder how his wife will survive if they're in debt and struggling to pay bills. He will be removed from being able to contribute for the next few years.

fairytailcat · 14/01/2025 16:18

The man said he had been accepted for a job in prison service

Yet he was "easily lead" by the lure of £15k

Worrying assessments they made there

Somebody aiding the supply / sale and import of that huge volume of drugs is not getting my sympathy

His kids do

I laughed so much at Toby

I thought that family man was getting a job in the prison service to smuggle drugs in.

I thought that as well.

Hels20 · 14/01/2025 21:33

I did wonder about that with Dan - that he was getting a prison job to aid smuggling drugs.

but I also did feel sorry for him - I think his remorse and his story was genuine. Axel preyed on a vulnerable man. Question would be - would he have stopped after that first £15k hit?

V powerful show and well done - people can easily make a stupid life changing decision. The makers of programme showed it really well. V interesting comment by one of the police about how criminal groups arise - often it is just about someone crossing paths with someone. By chance. If Dan had not met Axel for a tattoo he might be at home with his family.

depressing episode. V long sentences.

missmouse1969 · 14/01/2025 21:44

I too saw the programme last night. Hefty sentence for the family guy and I too felt a bit sorry for him.
I've been hooked watching this programme since seeing my old colleague of 20yrs on here. He was the head man of Jaguar Palace.
Thought he was the nicest guy in the world.
But the greed is utterly despicable.
The UK courts seem very heavy handed on sentences for drug dealers and so they should be.

BiscuitlyBoyle · 14/01/2025 22:05

I really felt for Dan. It’s so hard d struggling for every penny and wanting to provide for your family. It’s easy to have your head turned by the promise of £15k.

Out of interest what happens to the wife and children in this situation. They are innocent, presumably, and have now lost his income. Are they entitled to benefits or support?

ChoccyJules · 14/01/2025 22:29

@BiscuitlyBoyle I wondered about the ones left at home too, especially the school-age kid now his Dad’s been shown on TV, being both emotional and going to prison.

I suppose it depends on her situation ie if she's working but technically she could apply for benefits. I would imagine they were renting so she might need to claim housing benefits to help pay the rent or present as homeless if the landlord wanted their property back.

JellyBeanFactory · 15/01/2025 00:04

I too felt sorry for Daniel but then had a look on Facebook and he is out, served little over a year in the end! According to some on the local pages, he wasn't/isn't as innocent as he made out and the tears and remorse were a bit of an act!

Hels20 · 15/01/2025 03:50

I wonder if this is the same Toby Bunting www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-34006251.amp

Hels20 · 15/01/2025 03:54

I can’t believe Daniel is out already - although he has been in custody now for 2 years.

Was anyone else surprised that Daniel didn’t seem to have a legal rep with him in the interview or that he talked and confessed from the get go? Loved Toby’s aside at the end after he came in to be interviewed after bail and turned and said “think I have said too much.”

So obvious that Axel was lying through his teeth - all that rubbish about him not having a clue about all those drugs being in his house even though in blatant sight in his kitchen etc! Wonder how long he had been smuggling and how much he had made before he got caught.

fluffiphlox · 15/01/2025 07:05

He was pleading poverty but had an armful of tattoos. Limited sympathy here.

Read all the comments, there's a couple of people on there who seem to know him and what happened.

Glowingworms · 15/01/2025 09:39

I think it was right that he got the larger prison sentence than car guy (toby)

The car guy was found with a much smaller amount on him without links to the importing.

Daniel had pictures of several kilos in his house and was picking it up from the airport with lots of clear messages that he knew he was ferrying massive quantities around and storing

Ultimately every single drug dealer arrested always says they are holding it for a friend, and they aren't the mastermind. It was also axels defence, although much less believable. If you knowingly are moving around kilos of drugs than there is limited defence

As with most organised crime, the people with dirty hands are often exploited, and the real people that profit from it are miles away from it carrying much less of the risk.

It's the same with the last episode, those people were imported by gangs to remain in their debt to sell drugs. The gang then sacrificed them (physically dropping them off!) to police when it looked like it might impact the drug trade.

The real minds behind it, and people that are living off the massive profits aren't the people opening packages, having them in their houses or dealing it on the street etc
