I don’t usually watch this program on channel four but put it on by accident and have just watched the second part on More four on demand .I just have some thoughts on it and if any one has watched it please discuss with me here especially if you have watched both. It is the one about the murder of Eliza.

I get so angry 😡 about a lot of things surrounding these illegal mostly criminals.

Why of why are we giving these convicts phones?

Bixterret · 07/01/2025 18:24

Give them phones and they can plan their escape with outside help.

Webbymeister · 07/01/2025 18:43

Well it’s not a prison I suppose

I found it interesting still but scary how these criminal gangs can operate so easily. Hope they were all deported after their sentences finished.

I don't understand why for the 4 who committed much lesser crimes and only got short sentences they weren't just deported, those 4 all handed themselves in (assuming it would speed up deporting them I guess?) and a few of them asked to just be deported so why aren't we doing it!

I do feel a bit of sympathy for them as like it said some of them have just been sold a dream, paid their life savings to a trafficker to get here and then found the only way they can make money once here is doing the low level work for gangs and realise they are better off back home but have no way of leaving!

Apparently it's an offence to escape, so that makes it a prison in my eyes.

Webbymeister · 07/01/2025 19:23

Hmm. I’m thinking about that.

I found the reports from Albania very interesting. You can’t see how a young person would look at all the videos on TikTok and the like and believe the streets are paved with gold.

I saw similar working in Eastern Europe nearly 30 years ago. Long before the days of sm young people especially were convinced if they could just get to Britain they’d instantly walk into a job and be given a company car and a mobile phone. They were the golden goals at the time.
No matter how I tried to point out that these jobs were high ranking, involved university degrees, qualifications, working your way up the corporate ladder I was not believed.
I imagine it’s ramped up now with TikTok etc and once they’re in with traffickers they’re in debt for most of their lives.
Britain is very poor at deportation, Australia is much more proactive.

Hels20 · 08/01/2025 22:37

I didn’t find the episode boring / just different to the normal episodes. I wondered if it had been done to show that the streets weren’t paved with gold in the UK and to try to discourage people from coming here! I think last year a judge made a comment to some Albanians who he was sentencing that he couldn’t understand why they had come to the UK and left beautiful Albania (with much better weather) behind!

purpleme12 · 13/01/2025 21:07

There's more drugs than Superdrug here! 😂

TokyoSushi · 13/01/2025 21:11

Interesting one tonight!

purpleme12 · 13/01/2025 21:28

It's not looking very convincing for him!

TokyoSushi · 13/01/2025 21:30

He seems really quite casual about the whole thing!

PositivityVibes · 13/01/2025 21:33

Loving the one tonight, bit like Jaguar Palace

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2025 21:33

What was the reason Toby was stopped in the first place?

What was the reason Toby was stopped in the first place?

Wondered that too

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2025 21:43

Pretty site he didn't have a fake American accent either when he was arrested.

I was just reading online, seems like he was pulled over asleep in a lay-by and community police spotted him - good spot!

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2025 22:19

Ab tee. He said something about being asleep.

Turmerictolly · 13/01/2025 23:31

I felt a bit sorry for the family guy. Unfortunately he lost all sense of reason with the promise of £15K. 10 year sentence and he's never been in trouble before. Can't help thinking violent, hardened criminals get less but then aiding drug supply also has wider consequences fuelling addiction and crime.

Ihatemondays1962 · 13/01/2025 23:33

I felt a bit sorry for the family guy too. One moment has changed things forever. Very sad for his children.

purpleme12 · 13/01/2025 23:42

I felt bad for him too

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2025 21:33

What was the reason Toby was stopped in the first place?

I thought he said he'd pulled over in the car to sleep.

I was a little surprised his sentence was so much less than the guy with the wife and kids. I guess they did both show some remorse, but it's tough and these crimes are taken very seriously. I couldn't help thinking about that man's poor wife - things were already tough financially, by his account, and she now has to cope on her own with two kids while her husband is banged up for 10 years. So idiotic of him to let himself be swayed.

RosieBurdock · 14/01/2025 00:00

I felt sorry for him but then remembered that if they showed someone getting a low sentence or no sentence it wouldn't deter others who were watching. It's true that crystal meth has a huge knock on effect to society with crime to feed addictions/affect on people's ability to parent etc

ImWearingPantaloons · 14/01/2025 11:25

I don't feel sorry for him. A massive case of FAFO....
