TV PACE THREAD. NO SPOILERS AS IT WILL BE ON I-PLAYER

The BBC teases: "Nightsleeper is a real-time thriller set on a sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London, while a government agency desperately tries to intervene in the rapidly-escalating events onboard.

"Can two people who’ve never met, one on the train and one not, work together to save the lives of its disparate group of passengers as the Heart of Britain service hurtles towards what might quite literally be its final destination?"

"Abby Aysgarth, the Acting Technical Director at the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, is finally about to take a well-earned holiday when she receives a phone call that will change everything - the UK railway network is under attack.

Meanwhile Joe Roag, an off-duty cop onboard and hoping for a quiet night. However, over the next six rollercoaster hours, Joe’s about to get anything but, as he and Abby battle both their own distrust and the unpredictable behaviour of the person or persons now in control, desperate to try and stop the Heart of Britain from reaching the end of the line, in more ways than one…"

Joe Cole, who's appeared in hit gangster dramas Peaky Blinders and Gangs of London, plays off-duty cop Joe Roag, while Alexandra Roach, whose screen credits include C4 drama No Offence and period piece Sanditon, stars as cyber security boss, Abby Aysgarth.

The series also stars Alex Ferns (The Devil’s Hour), Sharon Small (The Bay), James Cosmo (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), David Threlfall (Shameless), Daniel Cahill (The Control Room) and Lois Chimimba (Vigil).

While an impressive cast is completed by Gabriel Howell (The Fence), Katie Leung (Harry Potter), Leah MacRae (Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything), Ruth Madeley (Years and Years), Adam Mitchell (Mother’s Day), Pamela Nomvete (Andor), Scott Reid (Maxine), Sharon Rooney (Jerk) and Parth Thakerar (Gangs of London).

Abby is totally miscast. She is like a poor mans version of Vicky Mclure.

Gloriia · 16/09/2024 09:06

What were they wearing for their trip to morroco?! looked like they were in a Freeman's catalogue photoshoot.

Don't think dodgy cop is involved in the hacking, as a pp said he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and due to a previous as yet unknown misdemeanor will be suspect number 1 but will obviously come out the hero.

I like a silly drama though, as long as it keeps your attention and has you gripped and as the lights came on on the train and it fired up, trundled off sans driver it was a bit gripping.

Joe will get into the drivers cab, bring it all to a halt and being wanted by interpol will all be forgiven.

At least it wasn't Sheridan Smith or Michelle Keegan. Small mercies.

EveryKneeShallBow · 16/09/2024 09:16

It was very poor, really, but I must admit I’m intrigued to know what the important call is that oil rig guy is waiting for. I think that’s going to be significant.

lazymum99 · 16/09/2024 09:16

Taking Of Pelham 123 updated with a bit more tech stuff 😆

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 09:18

The Abby actress is Alexandra Roach ( thanks wiki ) she reminded me of the Torchwood actress.
She played the wife in ' one chance' about Paul Potts with James cordon. I kept wondering where I'd seen her before
This programme is similar to the one set on a plane with Richard Armitage and the Vigil drama with Michelle Keegan.
The Gatwick train she was on looked old! They must have paid a bit to take them out of train ' retirement'!
Hope that fit guy isn't a total baddie , but all a big ' misunderstanding' lol

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 09:19

Who is controlling the train? Big mystery there

Maybe it'll be like Trigger Point and it'll be some middle class posh terrorists with a degree in tech. I do hope we don't have any exploding mobile phones though Shock.

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 09:27

Probably like Trigger point and yes , posh terrorists with actual intelligence and knowledge
We saw a few at the start in the car
It's all bound to become complicated and the PM will have to get involved too no doubt.

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 09:31

All I could think too was ' thank god for mobile phones ' and satellite phones too, where would they have been without that tech available eh?
She was juggling two of them as well.

LetsHopeSo · 16/09/2024 09:46

I just turned it on by accident, not knowing anything about it.
Being from and living in the Glasgow area and regularly on trains to Glasgow Central, it's nice to see and hear all the familiar places and faces!😀

Not mentioned in the cast list, the train driver is Gavin Mitchell who played Boaby in Still Game!!
Also the male train attendant alongside Sharon Rooney, played Methadone Mick in Still Game!

Don't recognise the actor who plays Joe but thought the Scottish actor with the beard is more of a dish!

That was a twist about Joe! Also not convinced by Abby being so high up in cyber security although the overall head woman seems more authorative.

Nice to see James Cosmo and Sharon Small again. I will be watching the next episode!

Gloriia · 16/09/2024 09:48

Also, I hate to nitpick but a Government Minster would have been first off, whisked away by their PSO. Pleased she wasn't though I like Sharon Small.

deeahgwitch · 16/09/2024 09:49

Lots of love for Joe on this thread.
Like @LetsHopeSo I can't see it myself. Smile

MissyB1 · 16/09/2024 09:53

We enjoyed it although some parts were silly, the mum of the kid said he was 4 years old didn't she? No way was he 4! Anyway he's learning a hard lesson - natural consequences and all that 😁

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 09:59

4? I thought he looked about 7 or 8 myself and answered the questions they asked him fairly quickly.
Wonder if the train is heading north now or back south ?

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 10:02

The transport Minister didn't want to get off straight away because' being seen on a platform in the middle of nowhere wouldn't be good for her image '
Silly reason really when she could be a possible target.

Clawdy · 16/09/2024 12:25

Some of it was very confusing for me! Joe seemed nice, but not a hottie, as someone said. His eyes are rather small.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/09/2024 12:53

South. It didn't reverse.

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 13:10

Heading south then , straight for London and a big rescue attempt no doubt!

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2024 13:11

Why did the black lady dressed in pink (boss I guess) not want the Welsh lady abby to call a man - but she did - the bloke from shameless

Sorry im crap with names

Hope that makes sense

The Abby actress was in a great drama series called Utopia, it was on about 10 years ago. I really love her accent.

James Cosmo is a retired train driver, and not only trains in general but THAT VERY TRAIN! Handy.

It’s enjoyable nonsense so far.

to answer why her boss didn't want her to call Peverell I presume he is the person who did the job that Abby is “acting” in, some sort of maverick sage who is currently suspended because of doing something a bit left field while in charge, will be vindicated by the end but chose to leave anyway to let Abby become permanent head after she proves to herself and everyone else that she can handle this.

Do we think Abby is in a relationship with her travel companion or was it just a friends’ weekend away.

The young colleague appeared to be her lodger, I think they were initially going for a misdirect that he was her teenage son left home alone and useless at fending for himself. I guess if she has a lodger she has no partner and kids, very Trigger Point.

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 13:35

Peverell is obviously' on gardening leave' or been a bad boy over something before and suspended. Abby's boss won't be happy she is getting him involved.
I bet the PM is seen in episode two and it's a woman , but just a guess based on other dramas like this and definitely not a spoiler at all.
