TV PACE THREAD. NO SPOILERS AS IT WILL BE ON I-PLAYER

The BBC teases: "Nightsleeper is a real-time thriller set on a sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London, while a government agency desperately tries to intervene in the rapidly-escalating events onboard.

"Can two people who’ve never met, one on the train and one not, work together to save the lives of its disparate group of passengers as the Heart of Britain service hurtles towards what might quite literally be its final destination?"

"Abby Aysgarth, the Acting Technical Director at the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, is finally about to take a well-earned holiday when she receives a phone call that will change everything - the UK railway network is under attack.

Meanwhile Joe Roag, an off-duty cop onboard and hoping for a quiet night. However, over the next six rollercoaster hours, Joe’s about to get anything but, as he and Abby battle both their own distrust and the unpredictable behaviour of the person or persons now in control, desperate to try and stop the Heart of Britain from reaching the end of the line, in more ways than one…"

Joe Cole, who's appeared in hit gangster dramas Peaky Blinders and Gangs of London, plays off-duty cop Joe Roag, while Alexandra Roach, whose screen credits include C4 drama No Offence and period piece Sanditon, stars as cyber security boss, Abby Aysgarth.

The series also stars Alex Ferns (The Devil’s Hour), Sharon Small (The Bay), James Cosmo (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), David Threlfall (Shameless), Daniel Cahill (The Control Room) and Lois Chimimba (Vigil).

While an impressive cast is completed by Gabriel Howell (The Fence), Katie Leung (Harry Potter), Leah MacRae (Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything), Ruth Madeley (Years and Years), Adam Mitchell (Mother’s Day), Pamela Nomvete (Andor), Scott Reid (Maxine), Sharon Rooney (Jerk) and Parth Thakerar (Gangs of London).

Trevor from Eastenders!

Yes that's who he is, thanks @Starlight1979 ! It's been bugging me Grin

As soon as I saw him I said 'Little Mmmmmmmohhh' in my head 🤣

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 18:27

Trevor ( Alex ferns) is a scary looking man and was doubly scary as Trevor
Poor Mo , although he met a bad end eventually

The wine-drinker.

Piggywaspushed · 16/09/2024 18:29

OMG! I did not recognise him!

I guess we have to assume that it took as long as it takes to get to Motherwell train station usually , but they cut a lot of the journey out for 'poetic license!'
( plus it was filmed on old disused Scottish tracks apparently, so maybe that's why it doesn't look authentic, or quite right ?)

No, I thought it took too long!!

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 18:30

I didn't recognize him either !

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 18:31

Oh too long !
Sorry

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 18:32

Google is saying ' five hours 22 ' from London to Motherwell. I've never been on a long train journey in the UK , so no idea !!

Piggywaspushed · 16/09/2024 18:34

19 minutes on the Sleeper which goes quite fast, according to Scotrail.

Other services are slower so it's probably lazy research. Unless anyone timed that bit?

They use satellite phones in very remote places. I remember a correspondent in Africa using one once on the news or in war zones , so oil rigs wouldn't surprise me. I do believe they cost loads.
I do need to watch the first part again though
It was very fast moving

I think you can get probably get mobile coverage in the North Sea now, maybe the guy had flown in from somewhere remote (he would have come into Aberdeen otherwise). But yeah, expensive. They were $1 a minute in the late 1980s.

OK, I am also from this area. I have been on hundreds of trains that stop at Motherwell. Did it not take an awful long time to get there!?

I'm not sure! Would think it would take at least 15- 20 minutes non stop to get from Glasgow to Motherwell. The Glasgow Queen Street upper mainline train to Edinburgh takes about 55 minutes, have been on that quite a few times.
It doesn't have that many stops- Croy, Polmont, Falkirk etc.

PS love your username- Lord of the Flies I presume?!

Yes!

The sleeper train only stops at Motherwell and Carstairs.

Overly invested...

queenofthewild · 16/09/2024 18:40

It absolutely didn't appeal.

We've done a bomb on a bus with Keanu. We've done father Dougal with his booby trapped milk float. We've recently had the massively implausible Red Eye.

Yet here I am. Hooked on this rubbish awaiting the inevitably poor ending

Strobbery · 16/09/2024 18:41

Oh and bollocks is it in real time! The young colleague that phones Abby at the beginning as he’s getting dressed is in the office literally 3 minutes later!
And Abby and her friend are at the airport check in desk one minute and on a train the next!

LetsHopeSo · 16/09/2024 18:42

dapsnotplimsolls · 16/09/2024 18:29

The wine-drinker.

I did not recognise him at all either!!

I watched Eastenders regularly back when he was in it, I've never known a Scotsman called Trevor!

SabrinaThwaite · 16/09/2024 18:44

Caledonian Sleeper takes 15 mins from Glasgow Central to Motherwell.

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 18:46

Poor Piggy , piggy ! I always felt sorry for him
Such a dark book
It is meant to be ' in real time' but they haven't specified which time zone !

Piggywaspushed · 16/09/2024 19:02

The beautiful, poignant final tribute to Piggy always annoys me because I want it it be said out loud that poor Piggy did not 'fall'.

Nor me. It's technically a Welsh name. I am guessing he was cast as Trevor when they had already named him. He was brilliant.

Oh it’s shite, isn’t it? But at the same time, kinda fun. I’ve watched two episodes and will continue tonight.
Whilst I love to see women in lead roles and playing senior figures, Abby is totally unbelievable isn’t she? No gravitas, steeliness, or authoritativeness. And her hair and clothes! Awful. I bet the poor actress’s heart sank when she saw her wardrobe!

R.E.M. this tv paced so we haven't seen e2 yet

And 3 is next week
