TV PACE THREAD. NO SPOILERS AS IT WILL BE ON I-PLAYER

The BBC teases: "Nightsleeper is a real-time thriller set on a sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London, while a government agency desperately tries to intervene in the rapidly-escalating events onboard.

"Can two people who’ve never met, one on the train and one not, work together to save the lives of its disparate group of passengers as the Heart of Britain service hurtles towards what might quite literally be its final destination?"

"Abby Aysgarth, the Acting Technical Director at the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, is finally about to take a well-earned holiday when she receives a phone call that will change everything - the UK railway network is under attack.

Meanwhile Joe Roag, an off-duty cop onboard and hoping for a quiet night. However, over the next six rollercoaster hours, Joe’s about to get anything but, as he and Abby battle both their own distrust and the unpredictable behaviour of the person or persons now in control, desperate to try and stop the Heart of Britain from reaching the end of the line, in more ways than one…"

Joe Cole, who's appeared in hit gangster dramas Peaky Blinders and Gangs of London, plays off-duty cop Joe Roag, while Alexandra Roach, whose screen credits include C4 drama No Offence and period piece Sanditon, stars as cyber security boss, Abby Aysgarth.

The series also stars Alex Ferns (The Devil’s Hour), Sharon Small (The Bay), James Cosmo (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), David Threlfall (Shameless), Daniel Cahill (The Control Room) and Lois Chimimba (Vigil).

While an impressive cast is completed by Gabriel Howell (The Fence), Katie Leung (Harry Potter), Leah MacRae (Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything), Ruth Madeley (Years and Years), Adam Mitchell (Mother’s Day), Pamela Nomvete (Andor), Scott Reid (Maxine), Sharon Rooney (Jerk) and Parth Thakerar (Gangs of London).

Tho not sure why he created the diversion to get on the train

I kept wondering why the boy's-mum ( or someone ) didn't break the glass on the door to get the boy out ? Must have been something they could have used / tried.
The obnoxious man refusing to get off was typical ! Always one isn't there ?
Also clocked the actress from ' daddy issues' , played the sister in jail.

dapsnotplimsolls · 15/09/2024 22:30

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/09/2024 22:24

Yes. He's ok I think

But has an interpol aler on him from a previous investigation and isn't a policeman at the moment - guess he got dismissed

I suspect we won't find out until episode 6 why he has that Interpol alert!

Tho not sure why he created the diversion to get on the train

Not sure he did, it's possible that he was on the level in trying to get the bag back. However in that case the plan makes no sense at all; the most likely options are, in order
1 bag snatcher runs away into the train, nobody really notices, or they make a half hearted attempt and then give up
2 someone successfully grabs the bag snatcher and calls the cops
.
.
.
.
3 dramatic chase by heroic bystander ex-cop which distracts everyone for just long enough for them to plant The Device

but the fact that it makes zero sense doesn't rule out it being what the scriptwriters wrote.

butterpuffed · 15/09/2024 22:35

This is good.
The one who played the sister in Daddy issues is the one handing out the drinks ?

Brightredtulips · 15/09/2024 22:37

Why didn't she just move carriage and get away from the hen do

Brightredtulips · 15/09/2024 22:43

While they're chasing the bag snatcher and distracted, one of the gang get on the train to plant the device

Ihatemondays1962 · 15/09/2024 22:53

I really enjoyed it too.

Halsall · 15/09/2024 22:56

Totally bonkers and it all looks far too good (the train! Have they ever been on the sleeper? 😂 And the lovely sparkly nightscape filmed from above!) but entertaining enough. Can’t be any more implausible than a claustrophobic Suranne Jones trapped on a submarine!

AngeloMysterioso · 15/09/2024 22:58

Well I enjoyed it but that could be mostly because I just enjoy looking at Joe Cole 😏

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/09/2024 22:58

Ah so he was unlucky to rescue the bag then

He was just being a good cop

Even tho been dismissed

Surely with a runaway train with no driver they would helicopter some men to the roof of the train to break in /cut a hole in metal roof and get in

Mouse was a naughty boy and if he didn't go and hide then he now wouldn't be away from his mum

Tho equally jo grabbed him didnt he when doors started to bleep and kept him on the train , rather then push him out of the doors back to his mum

Personally I thought it was shite.

longtompot · 15/09/2024 23:43

We really enjoyed it, much to my surprise. I was not expecting him to be the person of interest, thought it was the rig guy who owned the satellite phone.
No expecting much from it, acting wise, but it was good fun for a Sunday/Monday night

deeahgwitch · 15/09/2024 23:56

I thought it was good.
I didn't expect the police officer to be the one Interpol was looking for. I thought it was Satellite phone guy.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/09/2024 05:51

it was exciting

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/09/2024 05:51

i didnt trust him from the beginning. he wouldnt give his name for a start

Andanotherone01 · 16/09/2024 06:34

AngeloMysterioso · 15/09/2024 22:58

God, yes! He’s a hottie alright

Cattyisbatty · 16/09/2024 06:50

I thought it was obvious Joe was a baddie but I couldn’t quite work out if he was with the gang or not.
Its enjoyable and fast paced so I’m
gonna stick with it! It’s a bit like reading a trashy novel for me - just escapism!

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 06:59

I was annoyed that Abby didn't move away from the noisy women to another carriage as well. I wanted her to tell them to all shut up.
The transport minister is in for a long train ride now unless it comes off the rails.
I bet the obnoxious man wishes he had got out at Motherwell.

ApolloandDaphne · 16/09/2024 07:07

We enjoyed it. DH works in cybersecurity and all the terms that sounded like nonsense to me, made sense to him! We are also Scottish and it's nice that the train is mostly full of Scottish people. Very relatable!

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 07:13

The one who plays Abby, was she in Torchwood?

GreenShadow · 16/09/2024 07:42

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2024 07:13

The one who plays Abby, was she in Torchwood?

No, she's been in quite a lot (especially Welsh stuff) but never Torchwood.

familyissues12345 · 16/09/2024 07:47

It was too dramatic for me, I can't be doing with over the top stuff! DH loved it though, so watched the second episode straight after

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/09/2024 08:11

we didnt plan to watch it but it was too engrossing to stop watching!
