TV PACE THREAD. NO SPOILERS AS IT WILL BE ON I-PLAYER

The BBC teases: "Nightsleeper is a real-time thriller set on a sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London, while a government agency desperately tries to intervene in the rapidly-escalating events onboard.

"Can two people who’ve never met, one on the train and one not, work together to save the lives of its disparate group of passengers as the Heart of Britain service hurtles towards what might quite literally be its final destination?"

"Abby Aysgarth, the Acting Technical Director at the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre, is finally about to take a well-earned holiday when she receives a phone call that will change everything - the UK railway network is under attack.

Meanwhile Joe Roag, an off-duty cop onboard and hoping for a quiet night. However, over the next six rollercoaster hours, Joe’s about to get anything but, as he and Abby battle both their own distrust and the unpredictable behaviour of the person or persons now in control, desperate to try and stop the Heart of Britain from reaching the end of the line, in more ways than one…"

Joe Cole, who's appeared in hit gangster dramas Peaky Blinders and Gangs of London, plays off-duty cop Joe Roag, while Alexandra Roach, whose screen credits include C4 drama No Offence and period piece Sanditon, stars as cyber security boss, Abby Aysgarth.

The series also stars Alex Ferns (The Devil’s Hour), Sharon Small (The Bay), James Cosmo (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), David Threlfall (Shameless), Daniel Cahill (The Control Room) and Lois Chimimba (Vigil).

While an impressive cast is completed by Gabriel Howell (The Fence), Katie Leung (Harry Potter), Leah MacRae (Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything), Ruth Madeley (Years and Years), Adam Mitchell (Mother’s Day), Pamela Nomvete (Andor), Scott Reid (Maxine), Sharon Rooney (Jerk) and Parth Thakerar (Gangs of London).

When they think it's shit?!

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2024 06:32

I quite like shit telly is the answer to that question. Obviously, I prefer good telly but that seems quite rare these days.

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2024 06:32

Also, I have no other life.

purpleme12 · 02/10/2024 07:48

Surely if you like it then it's not shit

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2024 07:50

I don't think that follows. I like picking apart shit telly. I enjoy analysing the clunky dialogue, awful endings, poor CGI and terrible acting. It's fun.

If it had no entertainment value at all, I would indeed stop watching. But there's a whole pleasure out of 'so bad it's good' telly.

purpleme12 · 02/10/2024 07:57

Oh ok I don't really get it but ok

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2024 07:59

I'd be left watching nothing otherwise : there is so little genuine quality TV o these days. DH and I were discussing the other day when the last time was that something was on that was genuinely good.

ciderhouserules · 02/10/2024 11:39

I agree @Piggywaspushed - there was literally nothing else on that I fancied. TV seems to be a bit of a dead area now - I don't even watch that much TV, not even 2 hours per night. (And I have Amazon Prime too) I only watched cos nothing else was on, and I wanted to know how it ends.

Plus I think I got it conjoined to NightWatchman - which was excellent.

@Blondeshavemorefun - yeah I get that grumpy old man wanted his watch - but FFS! Wouldn't most people think Ah fuck it, I'll value my remaining life more? Hmm

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2024 13:29

If he didn't go wandering for it. All would be in the end of train that slowed down

Yes should've been a more plausible reason though, the satellite phone had been dropped or similar. A sentimental watch was no good reason for an older chap to take that leap though good on him for doing it. I'd have thought he'd have ended up in the same boat as the beardy rigger though 🫣

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2024 18:16

Wet slicing

I can only read that once in show

Old man could not be sliced and diced as well

You'd like the Channel 5 dramas then !**

So - bit late to this and finished watching it yesterday. One thing that puzzled me from the start is this - if the entire network was affected and all the trains brought to a halt except for the one hurtling towards London, why didn't it very quickly crash into one of the many trains stuck on the same line - or for that matter any of the other lines it was diverted onto? There would have been no need for freight trains moving on intersecting lines to cause it to crash - there would be enough rolling stock stuck on the same line... or maybe I missed something?

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2024 20:48

I think they moved track whenever a train was there

Or maybe all trains were halted at platforms

As no other trains have passengers trapped

Ok I've watched 2 episodes and I'm giving up....that Abbie is getting on my nerves, he's a bit of a dick and I don't really like any of the other passengers. Sorry but it's a No from me!
Onwards to the next thing....

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/11/2024 22:52

Oh no @Thunderpunt I really enjoyed this
