i really enjoyed s1

The new trailer ( gives a fresh look at the show's returning characters, including new PSNI recruits Grace (Siân Brooke), Annie (Katherine Devlin) and Tommy (Nathan Braniff), alongside Stevie (Martin McCann), Helen (Joanne Crawford) and Sandra (Andi Osho).

Fans also get a glimpse of new characters for season two, including new Constable Shane (Frank Blake) and siblings Lee (Seamus O'Hara) and Mags (Seána Kerslake).

The new episodes will follow Grace, Annie and Tommy a year after the events of the last season, with the officers faced with a gangland feud that culminates in a "violent and devastating confrontation".
"Tensions are high," Helen says in the trailer. "We're policing an area that could explode at a
ny minute, and we're flying completely blind."

Yes, the bloodstained jumper was weird.

It was obvious what was going to happen when Henry found that gun. I wonder if his dad is going to try to cover for him?

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 14/05/2024 08:54

Henry doesn’t have a dad, who do you mean, Lee?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/05/2024 09:34

Lee is his uncle. I must say, they've done an excellent job of casting the adult and child actors - they really do look alike.

Arconialiving · 14/05/2024 15:10

I thought the same @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g & with the brother & sister too.

Thanks, I keep thinking they are father and son because they look similar.

martinisforeveryone · 14/05/2024 20:31

I initially had them as man, wife and son, not brother, sister and her son. You just knew Henry was going to get a gun. At first I thought he might shoot his mum.

Canning’s like a 70s throwback.

It was emotional when Sandra arrested the man from the club. What a piece of work. I wanted to see her wearing his balls as earrings. And I could’ve cheered when Grace hung back on the spray and again when she said that didn’t even out the balance.

Think Shane bowed to pressure from his colleagues rather than did the right thing. You need your partner to have your back in that job.

It’s so good the temptation to binge is strong, but I’m rationing myself to sustain the enjoyment.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/05/2024 21:53

Well done not bingeing @martinisforeveryone

Can't R.E.M. if 6 or 8

Think 6 so next week is last one

I'm curious to see if they tie up the storyline about the photo of Annie and Shane in bed - it's been referenced a couple of times with Shane saying he didn't share it.. did Canning somehow get it from his phone and share it?

martinisforeveryone · 15/05/2024 09:32

Oh I don’t know @mrstea301 I think it’s well written though, so it may come around.

I think it’s my new favourite show and I was made up that there’s going to be series three, which is currently being written and series four, which the writers already sketched the ending of.

LadyEloise1 · 15/05/2024 09:51

It's very good but sooo depressing.
All of that violence and hate and that's just amongst the police officers in the station.

I was afraid that "lonely" woman uwas feeding the pair, Grace and Stevie, as a stalling tactic under duress - just to hold them in the sitting room so they could be ambushed in her house by thugs or be poisoned because she was giving them doorbell footage.

newnamethanks · 15/05/2024 10:21

Depressing? Try 'The Responder'. So grim I left it two thirds through episode 1 and can't face any more. Martin Freeman excellent but enough thanks.

LadyEloise1 · 15/05/2024 10:34

Yes The Responder is so grim too.

What's sad and scary is that they are the life experiences of people. Sad
Not just a tv show

BIWI · 15/05/2024 11:25

I think the character of Lee is tremendous (and really well played by the actor). Simultaneously evil and charitable. And the 'agreement' between him and Murray is just chilling.

martinisforeveryone · 15/05/2024 12:14

I thought the lonely lady may have been a set up too, nice to see she wasn't anything other than she seemed.

I only recently started to watch The Responder, but have stalled mid series 1, not sure if I want to pursue it.

Yes, the background and some of the storylines in Blue Lights are grim, but not gratuitously so. I think they're pretty rounded, dealing with people's personal feelings and lives as much as the narrative of the plot. Little touches like Grace missing her son so much and Jen reacting to her mother in a professional setting.

If anyone wanted to hear an interview with one of the writers, Declan Lawn was speaking to Fi Glover on the Off Air podcast from Times Radio. That's where I got the information about series three and four.

I'm watching The Responder as well, and keep getting them semi-confused.

I too thought CCTV woman might be deliberately stalling with her pile of cakes. It seemed a bit inconsistent that she was too scared to hand over the footage without a warrant, but she'd happily entertain the two coppers in her living room for what looked like a good hour!

Episode 5, shown last Monday - if you've missed it, don't read the recap posted earlier!

OneFrenchEgg · 15/05/2024 22:19

Aw thank you think I am way behind. I do want to know if these two actors are related though?

I’ve just finished watching series one and two, one right after the other, and won’t breath a word about the last episode until you’ve all seen it.
But safe to say the given me a lot more knowledge of the ongoing issues in Belfast for both the residents and the police.

Papergirl1968 · 15/05/2024 23:02

Oh yeah, and the colours were seriously weird. Although unlike the PP upthread who could see blue, everything looked green tinted to me.
The black police uniforms looked more like dark green paramedic uniforms.
Most odd. And very distracting.
