The new trailer ( gives a fresh look at the show's returning characters, including new PSNI recruits Grace (Siân Brooke), Annie (Katherine Devlin) and Tommy (Nathan Braniff), alongside Stevie (Martin McCann), Helen (Joanne Crawford) and Sandra (Andi Osho).

Fans also get a glimpse of new characters for season two, including new Constable Shane (Frank Blake) and siblings Lee (Seamus O'Hara) and Mags (Seána Kerslake).

The new episodes will follow Grace, Annie and Tommy a year after the events of the last season, with the officers faced with a gangland feud that culminates in a "violent and devastating confrontation".
"Tensions are high," Helen says in the trailer. "We're policing an area that could explode at a

Absolutely @Blondeshavemorefun - there will be multiple multiple examples of that exact situation (on both sides of the political spectrum).

My dad is a retired PSNI (formerly RUC) officer & it's all very true to life - which is sad as doesn't seem that things have moved on that much over the last 40 years. (I did used to love checking under the car for bombs when I was little as I felt so grown up - didn't think anything of it until my English husband pointed out how nuts that actually was!)

Musermum · 21/05/2024 11:34

Very true to life. I loved the series. I always love hearing our accents on screen... And not in the news!! There's actually a story this morning about informant on the loyalist side on the BBC this morning.... Very relevant.

martinisforeveryone · 21/05/2024 13:19

Some poignant events. I was actually moved at how the mob stopped still after setting Rab on fire and seeing the police try to save him. A real food for thought moment. I wonder if he survives, it wasn't clear.

I could have cried for Happy when he got an honest answer from Robin after all the years. He may have achieved no more than hush money without legal acceptance for his loss, but I think the explanation and regret was what he was really after.

I said Canning was so dodgy, but wasn't sure how the script would see that pan out.

All in all though, the last episode felt a little flat to me, as though they just needed to box so many things off and only had so many minutes to do it, which is of course the case. It felt a bit tick, tick, tick for the feels, especially Annie telling Shane they'd 'never ride again' only to drag him on to the dance floor at the end. Did we see who he'd shared her photo with? If we did I missed it. And how Lee's minions had just conveniently deserted him, seemingly in the blink of an eye. I think some of the resolutions just let it down.

shearwater2 · 21/05/2024 13:29

Fantastic last episode, I watched it twice.

@martinisforeveryone rab died. She said in the pub

It didn't look good for him for sure, but she didn't say he was dead, she said to Lee 'look what you did to Rab' he asked 'what did I do?' and she just said you know what you did. I took it as ambiguous, which is backed up in this review
Blue Lights series 2, episode 6 review: An emotional monologue, explosive ending and climactic cliffhanger | BelfastTelegraph.co.uk

Maybe we won't ever know for certain because the central storyline's likely to be about something else. Although, I might have missed if he was pronounced dead at the scene, so should go and check

Blue Lights series 2, episode 6 review: An emotional monologue, explosive ending and climactic cliffhanger

Everyone expected the second season finale of Blue Lights to be powerful and unpredictable, given how the first series ended — and the show’s writers did not disappoint.

I completely agree with this. Of course, they need to tie up loose ends but it all seemed a bit too tidy and convenient.

Agree also that Lee's followers deserted him a bit too quickly - would his sister's words really have held such sway.

All in all, though, a great series 2 and looking forward to 3.

martinisforeveryone · 21/05/2024 19:19

Glad it's not just me @SevenSeasOfRhye but like you, my criticisms don't mean I didn't enjoy it. It's been one of the best series for me of late and yes, am looking forward to seeing more.

mum2jakie · 21/05/2024 19:36

Definitely one of the best series I've seen. Looking forward to the next series already!

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2024 20:45

My recap above said he died @martinisforeveryone

After hearing about how he stirred up the riot that killed Rab

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 21/05/2024 21:00

I'm not clear that Rab died either. It was deliberately ambiguous.

WhatICallMyUsername · 21/05/2024 21:05

I agree it wasn't clear at all if he died. She just said after what you did to Rab. Which could mean getting him killed or him being seriously injured

lazymum99 · 21/05/2024 21:33

It's during this stand-off that Lee and Mags's uncle Rab went into cardiac arrest, and died.18 Apr 2024

martinisforeveryone · 22/05/2024 13:09

I’ve rewatched and still think it’s conjecture. I’m more in tune with The Guardian recap, section attached.
https://amp.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/article/2024/may/20/blue-lights-recap-series-two-finale-terrific-beautiful-and-a-wee-bit-soapy

Stevie says Rab’s gone into cardiac arrest, starts CPR and calls for the defibrillator. Then it cuts to the police in the van to go back to the station, everyone looking very solemn and bathed in red light.

I took it he was likely dead, but when Mags said ‘you know what you did’ I thought it could have left Rab with severe life changing injuries, which then serve as further punishment for his past sins.

Yeah, but that's no more of a reliable source than any one of us really!

Piggywaspushed · 22/05/2024 19:16

I don't know why it was left ambiguous other than a writer thinking it was clever.

His big monologue about the taxi driver did rather signal a tragic ending for Rab.

martinisforeveryone · 22/05/2024 19:40

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/05/2024 18:35

Where as the watch recap said he died

I always read the What to Watch recaps when you post them @Blondeshavemorefun It and the Radio Times did say he died, but often they have inaccuracies. It's not long since I posted that one recap from WTW was confusing because they referred to Jen by the actress's name throughout.

Anyway, whatever, it's good that something makes us think. If we didn't care, we wouldn't bother and as I said earlier, we'll probably never find out for certain as the main storyline will move away and on to someone else.

@Piggywaspushed but for me, that's where the ambiguity made its point. Was his tragic end story death, or was it a life of disfigurement and pain?

I enjoyed it. I love the little nuances like Sandra putting her wedding ring back on her finger when they arrived back in their rest room at the station; the way Jen carried on Gerry's care for Happy, that was lovely; the way Canning was quietly fighting for his corner but the women in charge defeated him without any fuss. Very good indeed

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/05/2024 19:42

Either den of geek think it's called or the watch ones usually seem to be fault accurate and sometimes I think - oh that happened qns I missed it

Possibly we was mn on phone 🙀😂
