Yah. It’s back. I enjoyed s1

wasnt always a murder and clever plots

Details about the plot of the upcoming series are few and far between, but cast members have been dropping some hints as to what fans should expect. Speaking on The One Show, Marshall said: "We've got a murder on a steam train, a medium who predicts arson attacks – that's quite a good one – a local fishing legend lost at sea. We've got loads of good stuff."

Last season saw Goodman get to know his new colleagues – they initially thought he was a little bit odd – and solve a few crimes alongside his new partner, DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi).

Meanwhile, Goodman and his girlfriend Martha were trying, and struggling, to conceive. After some difficult rounds of IVF, Martha chose not to continue trying for a baby, and this resulted in a major fallout between the two. At the end of the series the couple made up, and in season two it looks like the pair are back stronger than ever.

The commissioner or whoever she is also gets on my nerves

Totally unrealistic

My first reaction was... this paves the way for a destination wedding in Saint Marie at Christmas

I was hoping for a guest appearance from the real Selwyn at the wedding in Devon!

MissHavershamReturns · 27/04/2024 13:14

I know it’s pap but what an irritating season finale. I’m sure fostering social workers are jumping out of their seats shouting at the TV. Essentially the BBC is condoning lying (by omission) to the social worker and not putting the child first on his first day in placement. So so unrealistic in every way.

Poor Martha is just made to be so unlikable and in real life guests would be pretty angry at wedding cancellation having taken time off work etc. Totally inconsiderate.

Mad. Why would the person officiating the wedding cancel it on the say so of someone not the bride or groom. I really really dislike the bossy mother. I'd not want anything more to do with her if she tried manipulating my life like that. She should have asked. Horrible horrible narcissistic controlling woman. Pathetic adult children

It was drivel, but I suppose we were meant to think that Martha and Humphrey were worried about the mother because of the duplicitous Richard and so didn't want to risk an argument that would make her more miserable. That was just about credible. The idea that they woke up on the morning of their wedding day and wanted all the arrangements changed was not. For her then to cancel everything and not even bother telling them - well. Ridiculous. I imagine Barbara Flynn and the others just have to think of the money and get through it.

Wedding in Saint Marie is a very good shout! I hadn't thought of that. Humphrey can solve a murder while he's out there. The new detective out there can be a former colleague of his from the Met who goes to the wedding and helps with the solving.

Oh

That would be good

Oh that was quite sad.

How old is Ryan supposed to be?

Just left sitting on the prow(?) of the boat!

I was half hoping Sandy might have been able to officiate for the wedding!

Or that Selwyn would appear & could officiate!

Loved Martha's dress.

Daft to just cancel it all I agree.

Maybe the DiP Christmas Ep will be their wedding & Humph solving a case whilst there as others ave said?

butterpuffed · 27/04/2024 16:53

This last episode was annoying and silly . The wedding was on - off - on - off , plus , all in one day a burglary was reported and solved , the little boy was fostered , the Chief Superintendent's mother was pushed over and ended up in hospital [couldn't see the point of that story anyway] and they all ended up on the beach having a celebration party .

All very muddly .

diddl · 27/04/2024 16:56

I think the idea of the CS's nan being in hospital showed how the policing that Kelby did still worked.

Door to door/local knowledge type idea.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/04/2024 17:04

The Chief Super's nan was Usha from The Archers, by the way, in case there are any other Archers listeners here.

purpleme12 · 27/04/2024 19:29

Well I wasn't bothered by anything that was unrealistic!
And I really like it!

MissHavershamReturns · 27/04/2024 19:55

No way @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g i had never pictured Usha like that!

HopelessAndWondering · 27/04/2024 20:08

I wanted Esther to solve the case for once. Really annoying that Humphrey swooped in.

I suppose that's his "thing" though & the idea of the show.

WitcheryDivine · 27/04/2024 22:59

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g yes I had to google who it was as I knew the voice was familiar the minute she appeared but couldn’t quite place her.

Glad you were all fretting about the little boy being left on the boat on his own as well. Just looked really careless on the part of the adults didn’t it!

is it just me who thought it was genuinely a bit off of the boss lady to kiss kelby? I can just about understand a hug but a kiss on the cheek in that context is weird.

lingmerth · 27/04/2024 23:52

I do like this programme despite having to suspend belief every week.
Why didn't Martha step in if she didn't want her mum organising it. Then to be so ungrateful on the day no wonder her mum cancelled it.
The young constable is so dithery. Drives me mad!

Chrysanthemum5 · 28/04/2024 13:27

Absolutely ridiculous that they would go along with everything only to get upset with her mum on the day of the wedding. There just aren't the same likeable characters you have in Death in Paradise

WitcheryDivine · 28/04/2024 14:20

I agree, and that woman in the station with the plaits - what exactly is her job? She’s horrible.

It also makes me feel a bit like it’s not enough to have a series where white bloke always outwits local black cops, the spin off allows one to always outwit local British Asian cop too.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/04/2024 14:24

I like the woman with plaits - Margo? In a weird way, I like that the actor gets to play someone like her after all those years as Alan Partridge's long-suffering PA. Grin

MissHavershamReturns · 28/04/2024 15:05

The cast is actually very good but the script underuses them. James and Margo eg. Esther does a good job with the crap she’s given

MissHavershamReturns · 28/04/2024 15:05

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g love a bit of Alan and Lynne is excellent

butterpuffed · 28/04/2024 15:24

I like Margo too . She holds things together while the other two are dealing with the cases , and she keeps tabs on Kelby , who , although he seems like his head's in the clouds , he does get things done .

Chrysanthemum5 · 28/04/2024 16:26

Yes I'm not saying the cast are bad they are all good actors but the scrips are ludicrous

Thatsthewayitisnt · 29/04/2024 06:50

How much effort would it involve to get some scriptwriters in who have idea behind cliched stereotypes and tired tropes. All the ‘yokels’ have thick accents and live as if they’re in 1955. There are the usual middle class stereotypes to set against them . Everyone involved is just a cardboard cut out and the crimes are laughable. I watch it because it doesn’t stress me out and I enjoy the scenery.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/04/2024 08:58

The fostering storyline was ridiculous!
