New Channel 5 drama Love Rat, starring Sally Lindsay and Neil Morrissey, blends escapism and thriller as a holiday romance turns into a hunt for justice.

Emma, reeling from her divorce and estrangement from her daughter, seeks a new start in Cyprus, where she meets Niko, the charismatic hotel owner.

Their whirlwind romance, filled with luxury and passion, leads Emma to consider a future with Niko, far from her UK life.

She invests in this dream by lending Niko money for a villa, only to have him disappear with everything she gave.

Faced with betrayal, Emma embarks on a determined search to find Niko and reclaim her stolen funds, delving into Cyprus’s shadowy corners of deceit.

This journey uncovers startling truths about Niko and forces Emma to confront the realities of trust and betrayal.

Love Rat shifts from a love story to a tale of resilience and justice, highlighting Emma’s struggle to overcome adversity and rebuild her life in the aftermath of deception.

The series will start on Channel 5 on Monday, 11 March at 9PM. The four-part series will air nightly throughout the week, concluding on Thursday, 14 March.

Those on the cast of Love Rat on Channel 5 are:
Sally Lindsay plays Emma
Neil Morrissey plays Pete
Gerald Kyd plays Niko
Ramon Tikaram plays George

Louiza Patikas plays Christina
Joanna Kalafatis plays Maria

Well that was dire …then she is back in Cyprus!

Inkanta · 15/03/2024 08:31

Ha Haa I quite enjoyed this. Good ending. I did remain irritated with the police woman's moody face and lack of interest - until too late.

Inkanta · 15/03/2024 08:33

Who knew, if you want to reconcile with your difficult daughter you just need to shoot their father with a nail gun and they’ll be putty in your hands! I must tell my friend. She’s struggling with her daughter at the moment
Yeah I thought that!

notacooldad · 15/03/2024 08:38

The premise of the story was quite good. However the writing was terrible. There were too many plot holes.
The idea of a newly divorced woman going away, falling in love with a scammer is not a new one but the way she gave the money away willingly, albeit thinking it was only going to be for a few days, was a good start and the writers could have done a lot with that. However it descended into a farce pretty quickly.

I'm glad it's over.
Over for me I mean.
So ep one was good. Next three were farcical but like so many others I had to keep watching.

The power of television 😒😕😞

ilovebrie8 · 15/03/2024 10:51

Coma looks good!

ilovebrie8 · 15/03/2024 12:46

Let's hope it is a better offering than Love Rat 😂

On another note, when he said ‘picky bits’ I immediately got The Ick 😂

That makes me feel sick, it sounds disgusting. I have seen it on MN though. Someone said they were having that instead of cooking a Christmas dinner as they were spending it by themselves. I think Nigella Lawson started it.

Sidebeforeself · 15/03/2024 13:48

I am so cross with myself for watching this. I was intrigues by the endless supply of dresses and those awful flesh coloured leggings/skinny trousers though

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2024 13:53

Why cross ? It wasn't that bad 😂

We have Emma behind plastic sheeting

So Susie didn't mind about her mum, Emma , killing her dad at all and Emma was just pleased to be back in Cyrprus . Of course she was , nothing ever happens there , it's a nice safe place😅😅😅😅😅

Channel 5 has surpassed itself !!! Loved it !

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2024 14:50

@butterpuffed but her daughter got her saloon so all is good

Just catching up with this. Not read thread yet to avoid spoilers.

Has Neil Morrissey signed a deal with Channel 5? It's the second (at least) of theirs he's been in recently.

Also now know why Hellin had to take her boys on holiday in The Archers Grin

NeelyOHara1 · 15/03/2024 19:40

Saw it through, in an I've started, so I'll finish kind of way, but when there are so many fantastic and well plotted books and short stories out there ripe for a TV drama you have to wonder at who, what and why is behind the choice of the ones that actually get made!

HurdyGurdy19 · 15/03/2024 19:58

Well that was nearly four hours of my life that I'll never be able to explain. That was just SO bad.

I can't believe it took her a year to finish reading Wuthering Heights!

And would she even be safe in Cyprus? George knew a lot of bad people, and presumably she'd just smashed their romance fraud scam, so wouldn't they all be out for her blood?

Quite possibly

Same as Sally does

What an utter load of pish.

I've recorded Cold Call - does Sally Lindsay play a dopey, scammable frump in that too?

Truly awful story and acting. Almost gave up after episode 2 - God knows why I continued!

Totally agree. There are loads of brilliant books at the minute which could be adapted and they'd be a million times stronger into terms of plot.

Earthandmoon · 16/03/2024 21:01

Good grief, originally lured in by the filming location of Cyprus...I feel ashamed to have watched all that, it was sooo bad! 😳Couldn't explain to my husband why I had to (with continually rolling eyes🙄) see it through to the predictable end. 😆 Was it originally some trashy novel?
That stupid Wallace and Gromit grimace in every scene was really getting on my wick 😬and how many outfits did Emma have, just from that one suitcase?? I lost count! Even the title was pathetic, I should have known... 😂

JoanThursday1972 · 16/03/2024 21:15

Well if George knew so many terrible people, or was in charge of those, or working for someone even more terrible than him, and a big hitter in the gangster world, how did Neil Morrissey manage to persuade him to front this scam for him and run off with the money? What would George get out of it? It's just nonsensical.

RaraRachael · 17/03/2024 13:04

@Earthandmoon yes that's who she reminded me of - Wallace!

I should have known that something with such a naff title as Love Rat was going to be a load of tosh.
I agree with everything you said @JoanThursday1972 . It made no sense at all.

Didn't Pete say something in the end about George being very good friends with his business partner and that’s how it all came about?

Motnight · 17/03/2024 13:54

This is terrible but I can't stop watching it. On the last episode and wondering what the big surprise is going to be....

Sumthingsweet · 17/03/2024 20:09

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/03/2024 13:36

Stupid woman tbh

If she gives all her money to a great shag after a few weeks more food her 😂😂

Exactly on episode 1 many a story heard of holiday con men and desperate women but I enjoy the shots of the beach - I thought she looked frumpy in everything but they tried hard to make her look all loved up and glowy it’s back ground tv for me - when doing chores etc
