New Channel 5 drama Love Rat, starring Sally Lindsay and Neil Morrissey, blends escapism and thriller as a holiday romance turns into a hunt for justice.

Emma, reeling from her divorce and estrangement from her daughter, seeks a new start in Cyprus, where she meets Niko, the charismatic hotel owner.

Their whirlwind romance, filled with luxury and passion, leads Emma to consider a future with Niko, far from her UK life.

She invests in this dream by lending Niko money for a villa, only to have him disappear with everything she gave.

Faced with betrayal, Emma embarks on a determined search to find Niko and reclaim her stolen funds, delving into Cyprus’s shadowy corners of deceit.

This journey uncovers startling truths about Niko and forces Emma to confront the realities of trust and betrayal.

Love Rat shifts from a love story to a tale of resilience and justice, highlighting Emma’s struggle to overcome adversity and rebuild her life in the aftermath of deception.

The series will start on Channel 5 on Monday, 11 March at 9PM. The four-part series will air nightly throughout the week, concluding on Thursday, 14 March.

It's not a spoiler once it's been shown on TV though!

I had a “I’ve started so I’ll finish” attitude to it but what a waste of time that was. The script and acting (by some of the cast) was pretty dire let alone the holes in the plot 🧐.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/03/2024 06:53

Thread is tv paced so once been on tv the. Fair game to talk about it

This finished on thur

I got to the end of it. Just. Thought that her "little wobbles" would have been explained in more detail but they weren't.

Daughter seemed happy enough that her mum had killed her father.

It was enjoyably bad.

This is terrible but I can't stop watching it. On the last episode and wondering what the big surprise is going to be....

ZERO surprise!! Knew it’d be Neil Morissey behind it all since episode one, with his gaslighting of ‘keep taking the meds darling’. He’s an awful actor. It really was dire. I got lots of online shopping done though whilst ‘watching’ as couldn’t hold my interest. A shame really as they could have written it so much better.
COMA looks better albeit think we’ve seen the first 3 episodes in the trailer.

RaraRachael · 18/03/2024 15:06

OH thought Coma looked good but I've wasted so many hours watching these series fhat turn out to be utter shit that I'm reluctant to try any more.

They're either so predictable or ridiculously far fetched. Rarely seen a decent one

JoanThursday1972 · 18/03/2024 16:50

Jason Watkins is always good so this should be better than the previous. They feel like the Hallmark TV of Channel5 for some reason.

purpleme12 · 18/03/2024 22:45

perhaps i'm the only one who really thought Neil Morissey wasn't a baddy in this 😂

Totallybannanas · 19/03/2024 19:22

I love how he poured petrol all over her and yet 5 mins later her hair and clothes were bone dry! I was actually laughing at the ending.

20questions · 19/03/2024 20:38

@RaraRachael Totally agree with you. These dramas have great sounding, intriguing plots...but they go absolutely nowhere as the writer has no idea how to bring everything together to a properly thought out conclusion. In the example of Love Rat - can't develop/conclude in a satisfactory way so just kill the characters off instead. Lazy, lazy writing..

purpleme12 · 19/03/2024 20:42

I think I perhaps enjoyed this more than people on this thread did 🤭

Also I think I was the only one here who didn't think Neil Morrissey was a badun!

I thought DH was a dick but primarily because I have an inkling that Neil Morrissey might be a dick. I have absolutely no evidence to support this. He was very good (as a dick) in Line of Duty.

PurplePositivity · 22/03/2024 05:31

Well that's 4 hours of my life I'll not get back Grin

I knew the exH was a badun from the get go. They clearly wanted a free holiday in Cyprus so 'wrote' a story round that!

RaraRachael · 22/03/2024 11:37

Well that's 4 hours of my life I'll not get back

Me too yet I've got 2 supposedly sensible friends enthusing on FB about how great it was - gripping plot, fantastic acting etc. I think I must have been watching a different programme!

Sumthingsweet · 23/03/2024 15:05

Any thing with Neil Morrisey on is generally rubbish . Like the one when he won the lottery by Faye someone ..

NotDonna · 24/03/2024 07:31

@Sumthingsweet Do you mean the Syndicate written by Kay Mellor? I thought that was ok. I only saw the first series. The one based in a Leeds supermarket and I don’t recall Neil Morissey in that one. There has been further series so maybe he was in a later one.

I think the most unrealistic aspect is that both would be reading ‘Wuthering Heights’ !
I’d have her down for more of a chic lit type of lady.

The most unrealistic thing (of many) for me is how glam she looked having been on a 4 hour flight which departed at 6am - so must have been up in the middle of the night. I've not RTFT to avoid spoilers, sorry if anyone had already said the same thing

That said, I'm finding it a bit too cringy, not sure I'll watch the whole thing

mum2jakie · 24/03/2024 13:53

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun for encouraging me to watch this. It was shit, but enjoyable shit and liked the twists and turns! Haven't started watching Coma yet but my Sky Plus is bursting at the seams so I'll have a bit of a tv binge over the Easter BH weekend.
