New Channel 5 drama Love Rat, starring Sally Lindsay and Neil Morrissey, blends escapism and thriller as a holiday romance turns into a hunt for justice.

Emma, reeling from her divorce and estrangement from her daughter, seeks a new start in Cyprus, where she meets Niko, the charismatic hotel owner.

Their whirlwind romance, filled with luxury and passion, leads Emma to consider a future with Niko, far from her UK life.

She invests in this dream by lending Niko money for a villa, only to have him disappear with everything she gave.

Faced with betrayal, Emma embarks on a determined search to find Niko and reclaim her stolen funds, delving into Cyprus’s shadowy corners of deceit.

This journey uncovers startling truths about Niko and forces Emma to confront the realities of trust and betrayal.

Love Rat shifts from a love story to a tale of resilience and justice, highlighting Emma’s struggle to overcome adversity and rebuild her life in the aftermath of deception.

The series will start on Channel 5 on Monday, 11 March at 9PM. The four-part series will air nightly throughout the week, concluding on Thursday, 14 March.

It's just so bad. I just can't believe it. Neil Morrisey The hunky ponytail man from men behaving badly, I miss you. 😂 It's so.... Flat. Overly dramatic but not dramatic enough

Sorry, not buying it that Pete had anything to do with it! He seems too gormless.
If I’m wrong, I’ll be back to apologise at 10pm tomorrow 😂

He always appears in the next location seconds after any drama.

Although we know how easy it is to get a hire car, and how easy it is to tail someone 100yds behind their car in a completely empty road - and still not be noticed…

Oh god the more we write, the funnier this gets!

Whereas I’m now more convinced than ever before that he’s behind it all 😂😂

She wanted to go to the police with the new information, ex husband was intending on driving to the airport. She ended up walking and in that time he phoned George to tell him to abort the mission then conveniently
gormless Emma looks like she’s going a bit mad when other people turn up.
Similarly when she jumps into that taxi and goes up to confront nico and he follows her - he actually just turns up immediately after George, they’re in cahoots!

They’ve got to have left something for the last episode that wasn’t in the spoiler for tomorrow!

Or maybe I’ve just given channel 5 too much credit and it’ll be another Pauline behind a curtain tomorrow 😂😂

TakeOnFlea · 14/03/2024 00:06

"I think the actress playing her daughter was in The Bay. Similar acting job for her!"

She was, same breathy voice in both roles and pained look about her

Hmmm! Good points.
He (Pete) seems to be gaslighting her by trying to imply that ‘she’s going a bit mad’ ‘depressed’ ‘vulnerable’ ?
But..he’s killed George, hasn’t he?!?

RosaMoline · 14/03/2024 06:36

PS: what’s ’Pauline behind the curtain’ please?

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 14/03/2024 06:44

Yes I was oscillating between involvement of ex. On one hand yes he's completely gormless ... but yes the tip off at the Villa does does seem like it can only have been him.. and we all know how much these series love a 'twist' .. Definitely trying to convince her she is going mad and referring to her past 'wobbles / funny turns/ medication' a lot.

Well it's our final serving of shit tonight when all will be revealed!

We THINK he’s killed George…

Excellent points. I am more convinced than ever that he’s behind it.

The only thing throwing me is that George heads up a massive gang of these men, it’s a bit operation, so how would Pete convince them to scam Emma but give him most of the money? Or maybe he wasn’t in it for the money, he just wanted to humiliate her and make sure she couldn’t have it either.

They did go to the same place on holiday together for over 15 years, so maybe he made connections then.

We shall see tonight!

Puppupandaway · 14/03/2024 08:20

The acting is so bad in this!! Sally Lindsay is overacting, no subtlety at all. I agree that the previews give too much away.

One thing that annoys me is the fact that she's stressing about losing the money, only because she'd promised it to her daughter to open a salon. It's like she's trying to buy her daughter's love because the daughter seems very snotty towards her.

What was the reason for the double vision/camera at the end before she jumps in the taxi. Like a Jekyll and Hyde vibe...are they hinting at a personality disorder where she acts in a trance out of character??? What are these 'wobbles' they keep mentioning in her past?

I'm not convinced her husband is bright enough to have orchestrated all of this....but that could be due to the awful acting rather than the plot.

Well, I'm invested in this and will watch the finale tonight. But it's not going to win any awards.

TheChosenTwo · 14/03/2024 08:53

I did notice last night Emma’s limp really came and went! At least keep some consistency there 😂

notacooldad · 14/03/2024 08:56

I'm disappointed I'm going out tonight.
I want to see it out even if I do moan throughout the program.

I'm complaining so much Dh is telling me it's not compulsory to watch it but I'm too invested!

Bogeyes · 14/03/2024 09:01

Stopped watching this halfway through second episode. Total rubbish.

It's from a ch 5 drama we all watched a few years ago

Think called

The teacher

There is a thread on here about it that I did

Pauline was hiding behind a curtain

It all really made us laugh and we always comment /mention Pauline now on ch5 dramas

I don't think ex is brainy enough to have be behind this

Tho 'ferdy' /George did say she has no idea what this is all about

So maybe he is on it

I don't know

Makes it fun to guess

Of course it is but after a couple of distressing days at work it's been a good antidote to take my mind of things!!

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 14/03/2024 09:17

Yes I thought that comment from ferdy was also said for a reason

Hellendegenerate · 14/03/2024 09:28

I'm a glutton for punishment so have to watch the finale.

Two very well known actors (Sally Lindsay and Neil Thingy) taking on these roles, what were they thinking!? 😁😗

They can't be short of cash? Unless the tax man is hammering on their doors and 😒😱

Edited

Didn’t she check George’s pulse though?
If Pete is involved, then perhaps he killed George because he’s in over his head, and although he was involved in the scam, he didn’t want it to go as far as that, as he still has feelings for her - he didn’t realise these people are as dodgy af, and someone’s been murdered.
Which begs the question, how did he expect to get away with it? And the fact the money is intended to help his daughter?

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun!
was that the one with Sheridan Smith? I can’t remember a Pauline. I’ll have to rewatch 😂😂

HurdyGurdy19 · 14/03/2024 10:15

I haven't read the full thread, as I've only watched two episodes so far, and don't want spoilers 🙃 . I did roll my eyes at the Shirley Valentine scenario.

But as far as I can see, Emma wasn't conned at all. Niko never asked her for money. He just laid it on a bit thick about how he was going to miss out on the property for the sake of a couple of days, as he couldn't get the finance in place in time.

Emma was the one who took the decision to transfer the money to him. Definitely not a con, and Niko has actually been quite clever, as unlike the online romance scammers, there's no written trail of him asking her for anything.

I agree that Pete is involved somehow.

And where do I know the daughter from? I've seen her in something quite recently.

Hmm very true! If George is dead, I agree Pete did it because he’s in over his head.

Alternative plot then if George is dead and Pete is behind it, maybe they had an agreement that Pete would get say half the money and they’d take half as payment? Pete feels guilt and gives Emma the money back, which is still enough for salon to be bought.

Its been so bad that anything could happen and I’m clutching at straws 😂. I am looking forward to the last one though.

Honestly this is so bad. I actually burst out laughing when Niko slumped onto the table with a bullet hole in his head.

But I'm still watching ...
