New Channel 5 drama Love Rat, starring Sally Lindsay and Neil Morrissey, blends escapism and thriller as a holiday romance turns into a hunt for justice.

Emma, reeling from her divorce and estrangement from her daughter, seeks a new start in Cyprus, where she meets Niko, the charismatic hotel owner.

Their whirlwind romance, filled with luxury and passion, leads Emma to consider a future with Niko, far from her UK life.

She invests in this dream by lending Niko money for a villa, only to have him disappear with everything she gave.

Faced with betrayal, Emma embarks on a determined search to find Niko and reclaim her stolen funds, delving into Cyprus’s shadowy corners of deceit.

This journey uncovers startling truths about Niko and forces Emma to confront the realities of trust and betrayal.

Love Rat shifts from a love story to a tale of resilience and justice, highlighting Emma’s struggle to overcome adversity and rebuild her life in the aftermath of deception.

The series will start on Channel 5 on Monday, 11 March at 9PM. The four-part series will air nightly throughout the week, concluding on Thursday, 14 March.

Those on the cast of Love Rat on Channel 5 are:
Sally Lindsay plays Emma

@RosaMoline

Probably not too far from the plot line!

@TheFifthTellytubby

Yes I thought the same about Wuthering Heights.

I do think she did the chasing, but maybe he has an expert eye in spotting someone who was vulnerable, on there own and a bit lonely. Who knows?! Maybe he would have done a bit more chasing if she hadn't? I suppose we have to suspend our disbelief on this one and just enjoy (if that's the right word) the series!

I didn't say I wasn't enjoying it! 😂I just love picking holes in things. I expect when we get the denouement there will be a scene on the plane with the (possibly disguised) "estate agent" walking up and down the aisle looking for a woman travelling on her own, spotting what she's reading and following her to whichever hotel she went to. Still doesn't explain how the bar server got involved so quickly, though... maybe the crooks took a gamble on her accepting a huge bribe? Or perhaps it's a huge organised crime ring with plants in all the main hotels? 🤔🤔🤔😂

As per my PP, I think the hotel worker is ‘Niko’s wife, and has been in concert with him for a very long time. Part of the scam.

Yes, could be - maybe she got access to Emma's room beforehand and spotted the book? It does seem to be the thing that piqued Emma's interest (apart from the obvious... 😂)

RosaMoline · 12/03/2024 10:44

I have to say also that I don’t care for the title ‘Love Rat’ - it’s very tabloid-esque.
Mind you, it IS channel 5, so to be expected, I guess!

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 12/03/2024 11:00

Yes I think she is probably the wife. But they would only really be able to do it once in each hotel surely as there must be a furore at the hotel every time someone gets scammed.

Do they move round as a couple then? And she has to get a job at whichever hotel is next and then he works his magic?

Overthinking this channel 5 drama. Looking forward to tonight 🙌🏻

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/03/2024 11:38

Oh @RosaMoline 😂😂

I don't need to watch it now 😛😛😛

But sounds about right

Yes receptionist and lover must be involved

Neil m will save the day

Sure I saw the name pop up of Ramon aka ferdy from this life

I watched last night's episode and although it was all predictable I found it rather rushed. I expected more of a build up to the scam. Three more hours to go and hope it doesn't start to fizzle and my interest dwindle. It's easily done. 😏

Mumtoyou · 12/03/2024 13:36

Love Rat was implausible. How did she spend two weeks at the hotel and not discover he was not the manager. Did she not go to his office or see another person walking around as the manager. And how did the complicit barmaid know she was going to go in the bar and talk to her? How long was the fake website up and di no-one else see it and tell the hotel?

Oh we aren't meant to question any of that 😯😯
We are only the viewers after all 😕

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/03/2024 13:42

Laughably bad and I loved it! My favourite scene was the real owners of the house finding Sally Lindsay's character sleeping in their bed in the buff 🤣.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 12/03/2024 13:49

It would be more believable set in Turkey or The Gambia. Older UK, European & American women seem to draw particular attention from usually much younger men. Is Sally contracted for 2 chanel 5 dramas every year. I always think I won't watch it but I'm glad Danny Dyer isn't in it, already addicted but fuming with her naivety so hope she hunts him down.

butterpuffed · 12/03/2024 14:01

I love these Channel 5 dramas , they're so unbelievable they're funny.

The hotel worker must've been summing her up as someone gullible when she arrived but how did Nico know she had money 🤔

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 12/03/2024 14:55

@butterpuffed - good point. I'd be no good for him. I have £700 in savings... though I suppose I could always sell my house to see Nico alright for his cash...

Hmm yes either the scam goes deeper than that (unlikely I guess given that it's channel 5) or maybe she mentioned it earlier on during one of their many romantic walks along the beach/ dinners

TheChosenTwo · 12/03/2024 15:58

Okay I caved and watched this during my lunch break.
My thoughts are the ex husband is in on the whole thing, he wants half of that money and sees it as somehow his because he’s living in that poxy one room studio flat we saw a brief glimpse of. He has connections in Cyprus already and found out the name of the hotel she was staying at by asking if she was going to x but she said no, she was staying at y.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 12/03/2024 16:09

@TheChosenTwo

Gosh maybe it is less transparent than first thought. Yes you are right - they go there every year don't they 🤔

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/03/2024 17:47

Nooooo ex dh can't be dodgy

Yes @lemonsaretheonlyfruit - I’ll eat my hat if neil morrisey isn’t behind it all! I thought it was so obvious from the very beginning, he seemed really too okay about her splitting up their marriage which seemed like it had been largely quite happy.
Not sure where the daughter comes into all of this, the mum was meant to be getting the money and then sounded like paying towards a salon for her?

RosaMoline · 12/03/2024 17:53

Are all the episodes available on My5?

TheChosenTwo · 12/03/2024 18:04

No I don’t think so @RosaMoline - I had a quick look earlier when I finished this one.

Still a man behaving (very) badly... 😁

TheChosenTwo · 12/03/2024 18:23

Indeed @TheFifthTellytubby - every time I’ve seen him in anything since MBB he’s played an arsehole!
To be fair in MBB he was a womanising bastard but he has a kind side 😂

RosaMoline · 12/03/2024 18:29

Thank you @TheChosenTwo xx
yes, that would be a very interesting plot twist if the ex DH was somehow involved. I hadn’t considered that scenario!

Hellendegenerate · 12/03/2024 18:41

I hadn't considered the ex. might be involved either! Looking forward to tonight's now 😱

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/03/2024 18:42

Aha! good point! Of course the ex husband is in on it. How else would they know she had money?

Honestly, if we all got together we could probably write a script for a C5 drama ourselves Grin.
