Sounds fab @BonjourCrisette

It's genuinely a lot of fun. We play with a whole age range and tend to do the picking papers out of a hat for murderer from oldest to youngest. Being a murderer is quite stressful so we sometimes put blank papers in at the end for anyone younger than about 9 or so. Otherwise they just tell someone immediately and spoil the fun!

Dotellhimpike · 22/01/2024 22:53

Great if that's your sort of thing but it's my idea of hell. Right up there with the ice breaker at a work's team bonding weekend, attendance and enjoying yourself compulsory.

I realise this reflects more negatively on me than anyone else but I also think that it's high time someone came up with team bonding and ice breakers suitable for introverts.

domineastronomy · 22/01/2024 22:59

There was a Traitors game in Next before Christmas. I really wish I'd bought it!
Has anybody played it?

BareBelliedSneetch · 22/01/2024 23:03

We took the official traitors card (not the board game) on holiday. I managed the spectacular feat of being a traitor and accidentally murdering myself, as I forgot who was what number 🙄

i’d Be shit at actually being a traitor on the TV version!

we were underwhelmed by the card game though.

I am absolutely an introvert! I only play these games with people I know and get on with really well.

Would also hate team bonding weekend, compulsory fun and ice breaker things.

That sounds amazing! I’m so jealous! Right I need to find some people who want to go on holiday with my family so we can play Traitors

DontBeAPrickDarren · 22/01/2024 23:25

I nearly bought the board game a few weeks ago but the reviews weren’t very good

MarmiteLovers · 22/01/2024 23:33

I really hope Ross gets revenge for Diane. She was brilliant. Paul was so sinister not in a good way I’m so relieved he is out and Harry is also high on his own supply of confidence.

Not sure who I would want to win. I do see racism in how Jaz is overlooked he has been consistently perfectly spot on and I really didn’t like how everyone turned on Anthony the chess coach. I also really hated the Charlotte v Jasmine spat. Charlotte saying ‘I’m not an angry woman but…’ as though women can never be angry. All the others sitting back and watching it. Yuck.

Anthony came across as pretty aggressive in the clips we saw of him. Although he did redeem himself on Uncloaked and seemed much nicer.

Shangrilalala · 22/01/2024 23:47

DS had the board game for Christmas.

we played it once and only completed one task. I recall it was fun but complicated and we couldn’t really be bothered to get to grips with it. We all love the show too. Sadly, I can’t recommend.

ParsnipAndPoppy · 23/01/2024 02:16

The game you are all looking for is werewolf!

Ruminate2much · 23/01/2024 06:57

Only 38 hours to go for the next installment! I'm quite disproportionately excited... Or maybe it's not disproportionate?

Romeiswheretheheartis · 23/01/2024 07:03

Those clips were a few minutes footage of them actively debating who might be a traitor though. In the remaining hours of the day he may well have been the nice guy we saw on Uncloaked.

Yes exactly.

As I said upthread, the producers control the narrative. I suspect far more than we as viewers appreciate (and we fall for it time and time again because we have our own unconscious bias).

What we saw was a few minutes of Anthony annoyed and defensive, which could have come, for all we know, after an hour or more of hm being reasonable and calm. We just saw than straw that broke the camel's back.

TheOriginalFrench · 23/01/2024 08:06

I don’t recall a single instance of Anthony being ‘aggressive’.

But then, I guess people (like Diane) see what they want to see …

Twoshoesnewshoes · 23/01/2024 08:41

We’ve played Mafia card game for a couple of decades, all you need is a pack of cards.
its now been formalised in werewolf. Its good for large gatherings.
one more sleep…

NonPlayerCharacter · 23/01/2024 08:48

He wasn't aggressive, at least not in any footage we saw. He was intense and brooding, which seems to be his game mode, and not so concerned with being likeable and personable, which seems to be his real self.

Edited

Anthony seemed aggressive to me too. He was unpleasant in the boardroom but he was a great player and I enjoyed watching him trying to work it out.

I am so bored of people saying Jaz is overlooked because of racism/unconscious bias. TV discussions on MN are constantly throwing this out. Jaz would have been killed/banished if this was the case. Jaz is a terrific player. He is easily the smartest faithful. He is being overlooked because he isn’t particularly likeable. He isn’t forming any alliances which he said himself is because of his distrust. People don’t like others who don’t open up to others. He separated himself from the group and even when he has figured out a traitor, he doesn’t have anyone to talk to who will back him because he failed to build alliances. Popularity is an integral part of the game.

Turkeyhen · 23/01/2024 09:13

@Christmasnutcracker Jaz seems to have formed an alliance with Evie and Zack. Evie is quite similar to Jaz: both quiet, astute, rational. Zack is much more gregarious but he’s also astute.

Zac throws out so many names I guess he has to be right at some stage 😀

Stowickthevast · 23/01/2024 09:14

We've played Werewolves loads, the kids love it but you do need someone to be the narrator. It's funny how quickly everyone just points the finger at the same person.

We also play real life Cluedo which works well if you're away in a group, like camping or renting a house for a weekend. You put everyone's names in a hat, a place and an object and each person gets one of each. You then have to engineer the person you have to be in that specific place with an object to "murder" them. Once you murder them, you inherit whoever they've got and it goes on until it's last person standing. It's quite silly and fun.

Nesbi · 23/01/2024 09:16

Traitors is a social game as much as anything. I think you have some players who are incredibly open and friendly with everyone and don’t attract suspicion that way, and then you have people like Jaz who are much more reserved, wanting to watch and think.

That’s great if you want headspace to calculate but the downside is that it makes your social game look poor, people don’t bond with you as quickly, don’t trust you as much, won’t necessarily form alliances with you. I think it is really hard to be great at both the social game and working out traitors.

I’m more of a Jaz so I suspect my social game would not be that great in this situation and I’d probably get voted out or murdered for being too quiet and watchful.

NonPlayerCharacter · 23/01/2024 09:25

It's such a hard balance to strike. Be friendly and likeable but don't come over as too influential, and while analysing and strategising. I yell at my TV as much as anyone, but the truth is it must be so difficult in there and of course you wouldn't know the half of what's going on. If it were easy there'd be no game.

MeinKraft · 23/01/2024 09:29

Haven't played the card game. The tv show is basically the game Among Us though, might play that again

Turkeyhen · 23/01/2024 09:29

My point was that Jaz isn’t holding himself apart from the group, and what seems to be happening is that others are being drawn to him now that the group is smaller. I’m slightly surprised he hasn’t been murdered yet because his influence is growing, but I suppose the traitors have left him alone in the belief that he will be banished. He’s had quite a few votes at the banishments but managed to avoid the kind of herd behaviour that took the likes of Jonny out.
