I can't see another thread about this programme starting Jodie Foster, Kali Rees and Fiona Shaw.

From IMBd
"In Ennis, Alaska, the men that operate a research station vanish. To solve the case, Detectives Danvers and Navarro will have to confront the darkness themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."

I watched the first episode yesterday and I really liked it.

I read a lot of books about, and set in, Alaska so I was disposed to like it.
It was good to be cwtched up under a blanket watching the story unfold in the icy Arctic darkness.

Has anyone else seen it, and what do you think.

PS I love Jodie Foster and Fiona Shaw! I met FS many years ago and stammered some incoherent appreciation. I still blush when I think of it. ☺️

I’d love to know what Danvers meant by saying they certainly won’t find Navarro out there on the ice.

She's in Hawaii - the mug is the clue!

omg I didn’t see a mug! Where was this mug?

I was a teeny bit disappointed that it was the women if I am honest.

Danvers was drinking out of it at the end in the office.

Ah thanks so much! That’s a nice thought :)

I enjoyed this series, but have so many questions - put some below. I found the fact that the scientists were deliberately enabling the area to be polluted to speed up their research the weakest part. It's not time sensitive, the organisms aren't going anywhere and there is a slight possibility that they could be damaged by some of the pollution. The local women turning on the scientists was a very satisfying twist.

When they were in the ice caves, did they look up and see a body in the ice? Who was it?

What did Danvers see on the floor under the desk (just before she banged her head)? It looked like liquid - sea water? I assume that is where they found the tongue. Did Hank throw it out to sea and "she" was returning it?

And who was the Fiona Shaw character? She obviously had an enormous back story that was mainly brushed over. She was just a foreign woman who was very open about the fact she could see ghosts (or a ghost) and will readily dispose of a dead body no quesions asked.

I'd like to think the Hawaii mug was a clue to where Navarro was. The dead wandering around Ennis didn't seem a partiularly happy bunch!

I'm going to have to watch the whole series all again aren't I?

So I’m just rewatching it and the Hawaii mug came from the Tsalal building, it shows Danvers sharing a drink of whisky with Navarro in it as Danvers recovers from falling in the water

monicagellerbing · 21/02/2024 15:45

I assumed Navarro committed suicide, she was walking out onto the ice with nothing around, then at the end when she appears on Danvers balcony I assumed she was a ghost as they don't speak... Danvers had also spoke to Navarro earlier on about 'walking out on the ice'

Thank you for spotting that. Bang goes my theory.

I'm watching it for a second time, and it's making a lot more sense.

MariaVT65 · 21/02/2024 19:22

So I suppose we’re just having to guess what Danvers meant by saying we won’t find Navarro out on the ice!

whiteshutters · 21/02/2024 20:37

The article I posted by the actress said it can be taken several ways. I don't think there is one answer.

Foxlover46 · 29/02/2024 20:51

After reading the interview with Karli I think I'm more confused ha ha

Thought the same, Danvers has asked her to "come back" if she made the choice to go.
