I can't see another thread about this programme starting Jodie Foster, Kali Rees and Fiona Shaw.

From IMBd
"In Ennis, Alaska, the men that operate a research station vanish. To solve the case, Detectives Danvers and Navarro will have to confront the darkness themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."

I watched the first episode yesterday and I really liked it.

I read a lot of books about, and set in, Alaska so I was disposed to like it.
It was good to be cwtched up under a blanket watching the story unfold in the icy Arctic darkness.

Has anyone else seen it, and what do you think.

PS I love Jodie Foster and Fiona Shaw! I met FS many years ago and stammered some incoherent appreciation. I still blush when I think of it. ☺️

The sound quality is abysmal. Added to that the mumbling it's hard to watch.

Oh good it's not just me then. There's no subtitles. DH and i are amusing ourselves by guessing what they are saying half the time.

BaconAndAvocado · 24/01/2024 13:34

In fact, he…..no he didn’t 😂

Did one of the frozen heads really scream or was that just for effect?

They were alive. But they’re too ill in hospital to be spoken to yet, and have lost a limb or something

whiteshutters · 24/01/2024 17:59

Thanks I missed that but my H was blabbing on at the time about how it didn't look like Iceland.

LunaNorth · 24/01/2024 18:11

I can’t make my mind up about it, mainly because almost everyone in it is horrible, particularly the young policeman’s wife. How mawky is she?!?

I find the Ranger’s cheek earrings very distracting as well.

Hmm.

Mothership4two · 24/01/2024 18:14

I find the Ranger’s cheek earrings very distracting as well.

I thought they looked quite pretty like dimples. I'm not keen on piercings usually (or tattoos - I'm a boring fart)

LunaNorth · 24/01/2024 18:18

I’ve actually got a pierced nose, so I don’t mind them as such, but I can’t take my eyes off them!

whiteshutters · 24/01/2024 18:24

I'm finding the facial tattoos fascinating .

fonfusedm · 24/01/2024 18:32

Not sure what to think. Want to love it because of JF but at the moment it’s too similar to Fortitude.

whiteshutters · 24/01/2024 20:41

Is Fortitude good?

Is Fortitude good?

I thought so, it was popular. Creepy elements in a thriller series set in the Artic Circle. If you like the vibe in the current TD, then you would probably enjoy it.

Is Fortitude good?

At the moment I’d say Fortitude is knocking this out of the park. Excellent actors playing excellent character with a whole load of batshit crazy. Richard Dormer is outstanding in it. I thoroughly recommend.

Is Fortitude good?

I enjoyed the first series but gave up with the 2nd.

Really want to watch this but started watching series 1 (I know not necessary).

A question to those who have seen it - should I persevere?! It's very grim but the two main characters are so compelling (and the acting so good - esp Matthew McC) - and for that reason we have stuck with it. But we have got stuck after episode 4 (the one which results in MMc going undercover & the shoot out at the dealers house) just had me behind the sofa with the stress of it all and now we are thinking of bailing. I know this is a decision for me and DP but any reflections from those who remember series 1 welcome!!

Please don’t bail! IMHO one of the finest tv series ever made.

Shopaholic100 · 29/01/2024 17:26

Does it get better? Started episode 1 but just can’t get into it.

burnoutbabe · 29/01/2024 20:16

Episode 3 felt very long.

Even if I could binge this I would not.

It's enjoyable as well acted and I love Jodie foster but plot wise I don't care much.

But shall of course watch the remaining 3!

diddl · 29/01/2024 20:44

That was all a bit weird!

Rollergirl11 · 29/01/2024 21:03

It’s not riveting by any stretch of the imagination. I’m also struggling to know who they’re talking about half the time.

Yes actually that rings a bell too.

I don't know who anyone is bar the 2 leads. I didn't twig the start of episode 3 was a flashback until someone mentioned it on another forum. The police hat should have clued me in.

AuntieJoyce · 29/01/2024 21:19

I don’t actually understand what they were watching on the phone at the end. Can anyone enlighten me?

burnoutbabe · 29/01/2024 21:21

In theory the dead girls last video message. Looked like she was in some cave? With the bubbleing ceiling. And then attacked?

Hope they turned the screaming down in the hospital!

BobnLen · 29/01/2024 21:26

I have to confess, I went straight to a couple of those episode recap sites after watching it today

AuntieJoyce · 29/01/2024 21:26

Thanks. But didn’t she die years ago. I can’t remember where the phone came from

milesmachine · 29/01/2024 21:33

The phone was found in the trailer they discovered last week that she and her boyfriend used to meet up in. It uncovered their relationship and her tattoo plastered there

So the phone is old but a recent discovery

burnoutbabe · 29/01/2024 21:36

Yes the young copper was asked to get a mate to hack the phone to get into it.

Though finding a charger for an old phone is usually the hardest!
