I can't see another thread about this programme starting Jodie Foster, Kali Rees and Fiona Shaw.

From IMBd
"In Ennis, Alaska, the men that operate a research station vanish. To solve the case, Detectives Danvers and Navarro will have to confront the darkness themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."

I watched the first episode yesterday and I really liked it.

I read a lot of books about, and set in, Alaska so I was disposed to like it.
It was good to be cwtched up under a blanket watching the story unfold in the icy Arctic darkness.

Has anyone else seen it, and what do you think.

PS I love Jodie Foster and Fiona Shaw! I met FS many years ago and stammered some incoherent appreciation. I still blush when I think of it. ☺️

Watched episode one and two last night. Like others, immediately thought of Fortitude - so far so incredibly similar (hoping not too similar with the same cause making people go nutty!). Not sure what I think of the woo-woo element. As with the other series, the acting is top notch with everyone downplaying their performances - with the exception of Christopher Eccleston, who always seems to play the same character. This is probably the old fart in me, but I wondered if the casual shagging was necessary and added anything to the story? I enjoyed all three of the previous seasons especially season one. The fact that this season is so female- centric is refreshing.

burnoutbabe · 22/01/2024 20:25

I did not need to see Christopher ecckesytens bum!

I didn't recognise him at first as he is at sporting a dodgy American accent.

It's good but too much focus on people and less on the case. Not one I'd binge (if that was possible)

diddl · 22/01/2024 20:48

Christopher Eccleston, Dervla Kirwan-wtf??

1975wasthebest · 22/01/2024 21:47

I didn’t mind at all seeing Christopher Eccleston’s bum, he’s in great shape. I think that was the first sex scene Jodie Foster has ever done.

I can’t remember what happened in today’s episode about the murder story…

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 22/01/2024 21:57

@SadCelticBunny how do you get subtitles please?

Is she in it? Which character?

Mothership4two · 22/01/2024 23:26

I think she owns the ice rink @burnoutbabe - she was the one JF went to to arrange bringing the bodies there to defrost. She walked off calling JF a bitch.

tennissquare · 22/01/2024 23:30

I was so unsettled by Dervla Kirwan playing a local townsperson that I had to trawl through various cast lists to check it!

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 22/01/2024 21:57

@SadCelticBunny how do you get subtitles please?

@MontyDonsBlueScarf I definitely couldn’t see the subtitles icon on the first episode but it magically appeared on the second - next to the ‘repeat’ and ‘i for info’ icons, bottom left of screen.

burnoutbabe · 22/01/2024 22:36

Is she in it? Which character?

The mine owner who JF sat next to at the ice rink & asked to move the bodies there.

Edited to add-see that this was already answered-sorry.

diddl · 23/01/2024 07:43

Didn't Christopher Eccleston have a similar scene in Fortitude?

Or just getting dressed?

Yes Christopher Ecclestone was having an affair with someone in Fortitude and I think we saw him having sex before he carked it. He likes getting his clothes off!!

BaconAndAvocado · 23/01/2024 15:31

Enjoying this series so far.
Haven't watched episode 2 yet and have avoided spoilers.

I'm hoping they're so t be too much supernatural/folklore stuff in it. Doesn't appeal to me at all.

Loving all the characters and just so refreshing seeing an actress looking her age and consequently, to me, looking beautiful.

BaconAndAvocado · 23/01/2024 15:32

Didn't realise Christopher Eccleston is in it!!
Saw him in A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic a few weeks ago. He was excellent!

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 23/01/2024 17:06

What a long week now to wait for episode 3!
I loved the first one, wasn't keen on the second or third series, but this seems excellent.
Jodie Foster is brilliant too. I'd be gripped listening to her read the phone book!

diddl · 23/01/2024 18:26

Dragging a bit isn't it?😁

SadCelticBunny · 23/01/2024 19:07

Gosh, I am so rude, not replying to the requests for how to get subtitles.

I have a Sky Glass TV and you press the button with 3 dots.

I usually just maul about until I find the right option.
( I am slightly deaf and if I don't have the subtitles on, the whole TV world is a mystery to me!)

I think I’m only watching it because Jodie Foster is in it, it would be a bit tedious as another poster says with all of the relationships because I don’t really like the other characters that much. Her and Fiona Shaw are the best things in it.

Quite liked how they explained some of the things that appeared supernatural such as hypothermia, making everybody strip off.

Mothership4two · 23/01/2024 19:26

Heard about that on QI, apparently it happens literally right before death - if I remember rightly.

Don't think QI can explain very dead animals reacting and ghosts pointing out things though!

AuntieJoyce · 23/01/2024 20:10

Maybe they’ll be explained later. Hopefully everyone has learned from Lost.

Christopher Eccleston, Dervla Kirwan-wtf??

It was filmed in Iceland so maybe not that hard for British actors to get there, although it’s meant to be Alaska.

1975wasthebest · 23/01/2024 21:32

Finn Bennett who plays Peter is also British.

theleafandnotthetree · 23/01/2024 22:05

I'm a bit WTF about all the Irish references in it! The town is called Ennis, which is the same as the county town Ennis in Co. Clare in Ireland (due to emigration, it's not uncommon to have towns in the US with Irish names). Dervla Kirwjn is Irish (though playing a local) a main 'victim' who's missing (Clarke I think?) is actually Irish and apparently another upcoming character is also Irish. I know we get around but whats it all about? Am enjoying it very much though the Fortitude vibes are so strong as to be disconcerting.

I'm guessing he didn't get his arse out in that?😄

whiteshutters · 24/01/2024 12:38

Did one of the frozen heads really scream or was that just for effect?
