On Saturday! Anyone else going to watch?

Sorry if there's already a thread please feel free to merge

I grew up watching it in the 90s on a Saturday night. I didn't see the sky(?) remake as I don't think we had sky at the time, however this time it looks like they are keeping some of the original events

My favourites used to be Lightning and Wolf. I also used to want to be on it and do the eliminator. No chance of my lardy self making it round it now!

Apollo is also very nice to look at

Shame Atlas Spheres aren't in it :(

ExitThroughTheGiftShop · 15/02/2024 00:37

I'm loving it. Proper Saturday night telly... and my teen kids are getting into it too, which I love for them!

And I'm definitely watching for the strength and skill. Yep.

Anyone else noticed that in this era of HD TV the men have all been gifted some sort of jockstrap?

FourLeggedBuckers · 15/02/2024 19:48

I didn’t notice an attitude from the lass who was beaten on the eliminator after her massive head start, either. I thought she was - reasonably - gutted. Although I was paying more attention to Betti after she managed to throw one of the previous post-game chats into chaos…

The rope is really interesting. Both the army guy and a firefighter lost ground on the rope, because they were trying to do it “properly” (wrapping their feet into the rope) while their opponent just lobbed themselves up it. Because it’s such a short rope, you can get away with poor form and brute strength. I’d like to see the rope tripled in length, then see what difference that makes to some competitors. Just for my sadistic curiosity, and a vague desire to see a few people slithering back down it 😂

I definitely haven’t been looking closely enough to observe the presence or absence of any jock straps though!

So Finlay managed to carry on after his injury last episode but it looks like his knee's seriously injured now!

Februaryfeels · 17/02/2024 18:09

Why would they bring a new person on and not just give a place to a fast loser

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 18:10

That's what I said

Agree. That’s really unfair on those that went through the heats. Imagine if this new guy won the whole thing?!

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 18:39

He's not doing The Gauntlet!

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 18:40

22 points difference now!!

Bringonthesun24 · 17/02/2024 18:41

What's going on with 3 out of the 4 women gladiators dropping their pads and tackling her, feel like there's some aggression towards Bronte

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 18:44

Can't believe how close that was!!

Februaryfeels · 17/02/2024 18:47

Poor Finlay.

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 18:47

Both of them so close!!

Theatrefan12 · 17/02/2024 18:48

Aw Finlay deserved to win that

Sabre did it for the drama, Fire and Diamond both looked accidental (one hand slipped) and they played into it.

It's unfortunately pretty transparent when they're told "go easy". When Bionic did so poorly on Duel I said "so the other guy is facing an easy win against Viper later" and sure enough. Was it like this when I was a kid? Must have been but I don't remember noticing.

Marmite27 · 17/02/2024 19:01

DH and I have just had a massive argument over the fact I said there should have been two Finlay’s in the final and he said I was wrong. He stomped off upstairs after I rewound it and proved I was right.

Though I think he was right when he said Brontë overwhelmed the gladiators on gauntlet because she’s so strong, and that’s why they dropped their pads.

I was gutted for Finlay, there was a split second in that! We love an underdog here.

tenpoundpombear · 17/02/2024 20:50

Why on earth would they not just take the fastest runner up to replace injured Finley? How utterly unfair to just drop someone into the quarterfinals who hasn't competed in a heat! Bizarre!

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 20:52

That's what we said in the telly addicts thread

riotlady · 17/02/2024 20:59

Anyone else wonder whether the guy with the sore rib was making a tactical decision in skipping gauntlet- sacrifice the extra seconds but turn up to the eliminator a lot fresher?

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 21:01

Mmm yes couldn't understand why he did it but I don't know maybe he was thinking that 🤔🤔

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 21:03

He only lost by a whisker so perhaps if he'd managed to get the points on The Gauntlet he'd have done it

MrsNai · 17/02/2024 21:26

Did anyone else think that tonight's episode almost seemed rigged.

Why drop in new person, and amateur wrestler, who has not been through heats?

Why was there no medical treatment for Finlay despite having bruised ribs that were injured enough for him to decide not to run gauntlet?

Why were the Gladiators going so easy on the new guy?

Sad that the other Finlay couldn't compete but sadder still that it seemed so clearly rigged against a great contender.

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 21:31

No I don't think it was rigged

Februaryfeels · 17/02/2024 22:08

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 20:52

This is the telly addicts thread

purpleme12 · 17/02/2024 23:22

I have been looking back at old clips of Gladiators and obviously Wolf was the 'baddie' but he wasn't all bad you see him being normal as well and talking etc.

Whereas Viper just seems to be moody ALL THE TIME?! and i'm not sure he's actually spoken?!
