On Saturday! Anyone else going to watch?

Sorry if there's already a thread please feel free to merge

I grew up watching it in the 90s on a Saturday night. I didn't see the sky(?) remake as I don't think we had sky at the time, however this time it looks like they are keeping some of the original events

My favourites used to be Lightning and Wolf. I also used to want to be on it and do the eliminator. No chance of my lardy self making it round it now!

Apollo is also very nice to look at

It’s pathetic that the BBC are exhuming a show which originally ran on ITV in the 90s, then was cancelled, then was revived by Sky more recently, then was cancelled again. Haven’t they got any new ideas?

It was meant to be a one off nostalgia type show according to Bradley but producers decided to make a series. Have a listen to the interview with Zoe Ball.

Will watch with kids. Agree when I last watched it there was a back of my mind imagining of being on it. No hope now, lardy 40s.

LightSpeeds · 12/01/2024 17:52

I used to love this. Looking forward to watching it again!!

fluffi · 12/01/2024 18:13

Super excited for this to be back!

I know Giant. I can't say how I know him, as it's a bit outing, but he is a really nice person IRL.

Does he really eat 10000 calories a day?

Why's it pathetic?
They do loads of new shows, and as per previous comments there are LOTS of people looking forward to it 🤷🏼‍♀️
Nostalgia is huge

I loved Gladiators as a kid so I’m super excited to watch it with my kids now

Don’t want to brag or anything but I did meet Warrior at the height of gladiator fame - I was at a hospital appointment and he’d had surgery after an injury 😂

ItsJustNotHappening · 12/01/2024 20:35

@Minesril Yes he does! I’ve known him since he was a child. He’s always been a really nice lad, even as a teen. Polite and funny and kind. I’m hoping people are able to see that on the show. He deserves to do well. He’s not had it easy so good luck to him.

greglet · 12/01/2024 15:27

@Emily1583 ninja warrior?

Yep Ninja Warrior. That's the one. That's still a current programme that pretty much copies the final task on gladiators.

Mogloveseggs · 13/01/2024 17:53

I am so excited! And it looks like the original so happy!

Snackpocket · 13/01/2024 18:05

Enjoying it so far, it’s like just like it was in the 90’s!

JewelleryCat · 13/01/2024 18:15

It’s not so bad, I think I’ll watch again

Togomalone · 13/01/2024 18:23

My kids are loving it! It’s like we remembered but better with more humour from Bradley Walsh. Good wholesome family viewing- something that has been lacking from the TV schedules in recent years. We’ll be watching again. I like the friendly competitive vibes.

JewelleryCat · 13/01/2024 18:35

Why do some competitors and the gladiators have padding circles around their neck? (Idk what the proper word is, first thing that came to my head)

Fizbosshoes · 13/01/2024 18:51

I'm watching a few min behind, I'm enjoying it! DS seems to like it
I think Viper is the new Wolf!

Ostagazuzulum · 13/01/2024 18:59

Are all the gladiators professional athletes?

Minesril · 13/01/2024 19:02

That was a good bit of nostalgia. DS9 seems to have loved it as much as i did in the 90s!

They are astonishing strong! Leaves my 10kg dumbbell lifting in the shade. 😔

JubileeJumps · 13/01/2024 19:12

I don’t like the nepo baby son presenting.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 13/01/2024 19:23

I really enjoyed that.

Eggsley · 13/01/2024 19:31

We watched too, loved it! Persuaded the DC to watch, DS1 wasn't really interested (grumpy teen) but DS2 loved it and is already talking about watching next week.

Viper is definitely the new Wolf. Am liking Giant, he seems sweet. Pleased to hear he's like that in real life too @ItsJustNotHappening, he's my fave so far.

I also used to imagine taking part - would never have managed it as a fit and sporty 19 year old, let alone now (overweight, 40ish, hasn't done exercise since the age of 21) 😂

MadCatLady27 · 13/01/2024 19:36

Have posted on a couple of the other threads but loved it! Really liked how true to the original they kept it including the music/some of the events

I used to want to do the eliminator, no chance 😂

Apollo could throw me around 😍

Really enjoyed it. Recognised Nitro and had to google who he is IRL... Team GB sprinter, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey who got Commonwealth and World gold medals.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 13/01/2024 19:44

Ooh, I loved it! It doesn't pretend to be what it isn't; it's still in the same genre as It's A Knockout (only thankfully without any deeply unpleasant people involved, as far as we know).

Fantastic Saturday evening family entertainment.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 13/01/2024 19:46

I could probably even give it a go myself and actually stand a small chance of beating the pros - as long as they got the original gladiators' great-grandparents in Grin
