Telly addicts

Silent Witness - news series for 2024 starts tonight - what will our multi tasking pathologists get up to this time.

I know fron the last series that many think this is a series that should have quietly been taken of air years ago.

But the telly addicts thread last time was so funny that it made it worth watching just to be able to join in the comments.

As our two lead characters have zero chemistry and barely speak, and they rarely do any actual pathology, one can only speculate what even more far fetched adventure they will get up to this series.

Not forgetting each more implausible fashion get up Nikki will be wearing to work each episode.

Not sure if this has been covered yet....
Jack and his cage fighting!!

Bloody ridiculous. When he wasn't able to speak properly.
As if a senior medical professional would behave like that in the workplace.....

The first 2 episodes were more hopeful, following a terrible series in 2023 but now.....

That said, Emilia's hair looks gorgeous 😂

LittleMonks11 · 24/01/2024 16:23

Pretty much tuning in for Nikki's hair and outfits nowadays 😁

Oh the bloody fighting!

Really disappointing as I had thought that this series was off to a fairly good start!

Loved Nikki's yellow Fair Isle jumper.

GrandHighPoohbah · 25/01/2024 07:33

I wish they would add Nikki's wardrobe list to the credits 😁

beigerage · 25/01/2024 10:31

I suppose one of the advantages of writing story arcs with lecturers and protestors is that you don't have to bother writing a nuanced plot line - you just get the characters to shout the Central Dilemma at each other for 120 mins.

tweedlledum · 25/01/2024 10:37

Oh dear. I started watching again and quickly remembered how disappointed I was with the last series. Wooden acting, dull plots and hardly any science that isn't obviously spelled out and tied up in red tape. The magical "ooh look what I found" replays to find fibres by imagining characters are walking around...ick.

I agree, the best bit now is the wardrobe. I always love her jumpers and accessories. Also some of the properties are lovely and I often tune out of the plot and find myself admiring the interior decor.

tweedlledum · 25/01/2024 10:37

Are they trying to get men to stay tuned in with the cage fighting crap? I am so thankful for the skip button!

My husband only watches because he has a mild crush on Emilia Fox 😀

tweedlledum · 25/01/2024 15:26

@SoundTheSirens I've got more of a crush on her than Jack, I do hope they don't think watching him all bloodied, sweaty and unable to talk is somehow sexy for women! The episode when their new boss tried it must have been so poor in substance for them to have to include it ("I just want to FEEEEEL again"), presumably to give the character some depth. It actually made me feel he was a bit of an idiot.

beigerage · 25/01/2024 15:49

As soon as he said, I just want to feel alive but I'm not keen on Eminem (or words to that effect), you just knew they were going to break out the punch-friendly classical music. If only they'd gone the whole hog and used the 1812 Overture.

IwantToRetire · 25/01/2024 17:41

Its almost like the plot lines now have to enhance the presentation of the two lead characters (who we all know really dont like each other).
So nice intuitive, Nikki does nice spontaneous thinks in contrast to her strict professional role, and tries to understand everybody.

Jack goes charging round doing manly things, including slapping Nikki on the bottom, and gets his horrible fighting validated by an effete male academic who acknowledges he isn't really alive until he too does manly things like hitting another man, which of course also validates Jack's muscle bound existence!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone would think that the writers have a list of obligations to the 2 stars. Emilia's wardrobe (is she on a retainer by a designer?) and Jack's fighting.

You've hit the nail on the head there. I find myself constantly rolling my eyes and wondering when the lads took over the show.

Walkinmyshoes3 · 25/01/2024 18:03

knowing my wage also I have no idea how she afforded that house in London and her wardrobe 🤣

Posypointshoes · 25/01/2024 19:37

Despite finding it terrible, I'm actually missing it this week.

FizzingAda · 25/01/2024 19:57

I just couldn't have a relationship with a man who liked knocking seven bells out of another man. And risking his own face/hands/skull etc. Barbaric.

Motnight · 26/01/2024 08:01

I think that the second two episodes went back to the standard of the last few series - bonkers, no hint of any actual passion or love between the leads, yet somehow still watchable!

I love Nikki's wardrobe. And her hair. And her lifestyle (apart from the odd getting locked up / buried).

Posypointshoes · 26/01/2024 08:10

@FizzingAda I could if he looked like he did in the very first series he appeared in 😂 but I’m shallow like that. And they made his injuries more pallatable rather than having him slobbering and mumbling all over the place.

so is it a return to normal scheduling from Monday?

Same, I loathe boxing/cage fighting. And it's an especially ridiculous 'character quirk' to give a pathologist when either he or his girlfriend will almost certainly have performed a PM on a victim of a 'single punch' manslaughter at some point.

And what was that miraculous mouth drug thing?! Any medico-MNers around to shed light on it?

Yes those drops seemed like a medical miracle. Do they actually exist?

Posypointshoes · 26/01/2024 12:59

@SoundTheSirens wasnt he actyally
involved in some kind of single punch manslaughter ages ago, the few episodes with his shady brother?

I had a feeling something like that was going to happen to Gabriel, but they've already used a similar story line.

SoupDragon · 26/01/2024 13:27

I don't care one bit whether the storylines are realistic or not, I just want to be entertained.

The boxing sequences were too long (especially the end one!) and quite bizarre. What was the point??

tweedlledum · 26/01/2024 13:30

See, I miss the more science based academic chat. Everything feels like it's half explained to the camera because they expect the audience to have the mental capacity of a Sun reader. I don't find large chunks of it entertaining any more and can happily do other things and come back once dramatic music starts up.

SoupDragon · 26/01/2024 15:19

I do think the balance was way off in this pair of episodes. The droning from the lecturer, the pantomime screaming from Cara & the other woman, the boxing, the comedy mumbling ... way too much fluff.
