Silent Witness - news series for 2024 starts tonight - what will our multi tasking pathologists get up to this time.

I know fron the last series that many think this is a series that should have quietly been taken of air years ago.

But the telly addicts thread last time was so funny that it made it worth watching just to be able to join in the comments.

As our two lead characters have zero chemistry and barely speak, and they rarely do any actual pathology, one can only speculate what even more far fetched adventure they will get up to this series.

Not forgetting each more implausible fashion get up Nikki will be wearing to work each episode.

Episode Two SPOILER DONT READ BELOW IF YOU HAVENT SEEN:

I thought that having remained fairly sensible in episode 1, bar the unnecessary boxing violence (when you are one of the stars you can treat the series like a vanity project!) that episode 2 entered the usual SW that the pathologists are somehow directly involved, and somehow in the right place to be the rescuers.

I dont believe that the two assistants would have gone so far as to kill the enemies of their hero.

I also thought that having been quite an interesting look at cancel culture and the harm it does, then felt it necessary to have a plot line to say the old times sneering at everything modern, is just as much as a negative force.

And derailing any suggestion that women are the majority of victims of sexual harassment by making the young woman the harasser.

The writers could still have made all of the points, via a series of discussions. But I suppose it is also in Jack's contract that not only must he be filmed fighting with his top off, but he must do some daring rescue scene.

I wonder why they feel it necessary to have such far fetched plot lines.

it has made me wonder if something has happened between the actors, ie they don’t get on so much or something as I feel like they used to have way more chemistry especially in the first season or two together. I suspect they just left it too long for them to get together.

i thought the cage fighting had died a death to be honest so was surprised to see it crop up again - David Caves hasn’t been in the same shape he used to be for a while, no judgement it comes with age, and I thought they had knocked it on the head because it doesn’t quite fit with his appearance at the moment! I don’t really get why it needs be included again either - in earlier series it was first introduced because it was linked to the plot in an episode or two that series. Now it just feels shoe horned in for the sake of it.

i can’t decide if I liked this week’s offering - I’m not sure I buy the motivation of the two assistants either? They had zero personality and almost seemed like a parody of the right hand men type so I could t take them seriously from the moment they appeared.

I wonder if Emilia Fox disagreed with her character getting together with Jack. They are not really suited to be honest. She was much better suited to the US politician type. Her character was always 'unlucky in love' and maybe she thinks she should have stayed true to that. Just her and her cadavers, until eternity.

I am amazed that the Lyell Centre are still in business. They haven't had a proper head for ages.

The last series was dreadful. This one still has the same quirks but im more intrigued in Nikkis tank tops. Each day a new one. I do like a tank top though but can't pull it off as well as she can 😂

I don’t know what reaction they were hoping for, but dh and I were laughing out loud at the boxing to classical music, and I swear some of it was in slo-mo!

I watched a recording of it which I've now deleted from my box but wish I still had it to work out what's happened.

Can someone help me out here - I have missed about 12 series but somehow have started watching the latest series (first two episodes only so far). I am lost - are the two leads together now (difficult to tell!) and, if so, when did that happen (and was there more passion at some point that is on display in this series)?
