New 6part drama on weekly on wed

After The Flood on ITV1 sees Peaky Blinders star Sophie Rundle (https://www.whattowatch.com/news/after-the-flood-star-sophie-rundle-wasnt-sure-about-working-with-real-life-partner) take on the role of an obsessed cop in a town torn apart by the effects of a shocking environmental disaster.

She plays PC Joanna Marshall who w orks in a small town that has been hit by a terrible flood who then finds she has a murder investigation on her hands.

After The Flood follows life in a town struggling in the aftermath of a major flood that has wrecked the community.

As the clear-up starts, the body of an unidentified man is found in a lift in an underground car park and the police quickly assume he was trapped by the rising waters.

However, as the investigation unfolds, pregnant PC Joanna Marshall (Sophie Rundle) becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to him, and it seems the floods will expose long-buried truths.

Life on Mars actor Philip Glenister (https://www.whattowatch.com/news/philip-glenister-fine-with-axing-of-life-on-mars-sequel) is also starring as propert
y developer Jack Radcliffe while
Bridgerton (https://www.whattowatch.com/watching-guides/bridgerton-season-3-everything-we-know-so-far)
star Lorraine Ashbourne is Jo’s mother, Molly.

I hate dramas where a character does something ridiculous for no good reason other than to create a crap 6 part drama.

The main character kept banging on about the fact that she 'knew' it was a murder as if no one else did but they'd actually set up up a major incident team to investigate so in actual fact they would have found the same information Jo did just a lot slower because they didn't do anything illegal. It would have actually made more sense if they'd already done a full investigation and not identified it was a murder and she had then swooped in to save the day.

The whole premise of the programme made no sense. (Very much like Fool Me Once).

Just watched episode 1. Sorry if this is obvious, but how exactly did she upload the DNA? I know it showed a clip of her touching him with her gloves, but I seemed to miss how the DNA was sent to the website?

tennissquare · 15/01/2024 17:21

@HearHoovesThinkUnicorns24 , she attached a file to the website account.

I'm several episodes in, it gets better, the first episode is the weakest.

AnyFucker · 15/01/2024 20:58

I cheated and have binged up to episode 5. I nearly gave up 10 mins into the 1st episode but it does get a bit better.

It’s a “simultaneously scroll through your phone” kinda watch

LadyEloise1 · 16/01/2024 09:41

I've just watched episode 1.
I think it's good. I shall continue to watch.
She was mad to do the DNA 😮
So unprofessional.
But it is only a made up tv series.
Mind you I read or hear about real police detectives doing far dodgier things in the papers or on the news almost weekly.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/01/2024 11:33

Very unprofessional of her

But then she lies about her due date ri hubby and work

Obv the huge thing is that how can lift man be dead now if he died 5yrs ago

Why has he taken his name

It just goes to show that while the simplest and most obvious explanation for things is usually the right one, on the other hand, you shouldn't always accept it.
I wonder how many deaths are just ticked off in order to close the matter easily.

Clawdy · 16/01/2024 22:57

I will keep watching, at least one more episode, but yes, too many unlikely stories.

PandaG · 16/01/2024 23:51

We've binged it all, no spoilers but I'm posting so I can find you again in later weeks. Yes I agree with all the comments about stretching credibility in the first episode, but I'd say persevere with it, I wanted to find out who and why dunnit.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/01/2024 00:26

I def want to know why and how

OP posts:
SusieSussex · 17/01/2024 00:53

I'll persevere as I liked it. Sophie Rundle was good in An Inspector Calls.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/01/2024 19:37

I just watched ep #1 on ITVX, and what everyone else said about the implausibilities. But I'm giving it a second chance.

Stackarack · 17/01/2024 21:30

It’s a bit shit really bit I will keep going!

MillicentMaybe · 17/01/2024 21:32

I’m trying hard, but it is very very trying.

Will give it tonight, but it will have to
improve a lot for me to watch next week.

MillicentMaybe · 17/01/2024 21:34

@Blondeshavemorefun can I go on your list too please.

Every time something like this is on I come looking for your thread!

EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight · 17/01/2024 21:38

I'm finding the lead actress' teeth quite distracting. I don't remember them looking like this before. She must have been to Turkey.

MillicentMaybe · 17/01/2024 21:44

Me too! I’m sure they weren’t quite so prominent last week.

the80sweregreat · 17/01/2024 22:00

Was a bit distracted at the end of episode two
Was that the man who saved the baby at the end? Lee?

Clawdy · 17/01/2024 22:54

Yes it was Lee, and the French woman ran to him, shouting "Lee!" so presumably next week we'll find out how she knows him.

Wow that's a really horrible thing to say

lollyforabrolly · 17/01/2024 23:16

Did anyone else get that the property developer was actually trying to save the town with the levy. He sold his Range Rover fir bags of sand and seemed like a nice guy

tennissquare · 17/01/2024 23:17

@EffieGraysDisappointingWeddingNight that was an unnecessary comment about Sophie Rundle. Did you know she is married to the actor playing Pat in real life (they met on the set of Jamestown) and she was pregnant with her son when she filmed the second series of Gentleman Jack in 2021.
