A short evening dress looks terrible on most women, and certainly Sarah's didn't do her any favours.

clam · 19/04/2008 21:41

Sorry, but I don't think any of them are up to it. Same went for the Maria comp too. Connie just about had it, nearly, but during the actual Sound of Music show, she was knocked into touch when Lesley Garrett opened her mouth. Then you realised the difference between amateurs and professionals. My rule of thumb is whether I find myself tensing when a high note is approaching, in case they flunk it. Whereas you ought to be totally relaxed about that, if you're going to pay West End prices for a top-quality show.

ellceeell · 19/04/2008 21:50

Why do so many of them wear these short empire line dresses? They look like baby doll nighties and don't do any of them any favours.

noddyholder · 19/04/2008 21:54

which one is ashley?

ellceeell · 19/04/2008 22:05

Ashley has long red hair www.bbc.co.uk/oliver/contestants/nancy/ashley.shtml

lemonstartree · 19/04/2008 22:10

agree with the dresses! Sarah should wear frocks below the knee ! I don't wince with Rachel, jessie, jodie, actually Sarah too - because they do hit the notes. Samnatha does not. The differenc e between ALW and the 'panel' is that he is a musician and they are not (really)

bluesky · 20/04/2008 14:24

Rachel will win.

Libra1975 · 20/04/2008 15:29

Niamh is so BLAND, Boring, dull, no life or soul or PERSONALITY. AND Jessie still sneers.

Still loving Sarah, don't like Rachel but think she will win.

RTKangaMummy · 20/04/2008 15:30

If you want this weeks result read this but if you don't then don't look

jalopy · 20/04/2008 16:22

Francesca has a sinoidal/nasal twang to her voice and a thumb-sucking ravaged mouth. Find it difficult to watch her.

Niamh is too young to carry off the nancy role.

Jessie sings lobsidedly and looks like an overgrown Annie.

Sarah is like an over eager puppy. A bit too twee.

Jodie is brassy but, to her credit, can sing.

Can't remember the others.

Sarah has a lovely voice (unlike Ashley who makes us hide behind the sofa)

katz · 20/04/2008 16:59

DH can't stand Jessie, hates the way she sings from the side of her mouth and can't believe the panel haven't picked up on it.

We like sarah best and the new hair has made such a difference.

MargaretMountford · 20/04/2008 19:59

wooo, that was a surprise ...

ellceeell · 20/04/2008 20:02

ooh, I was wrong! Very hard to choose between those two.
Interesting what the leading lady from Wicked said - that there might be a couple of good singers there

missyhissey · 20/04/2008 20:12

hmm, think that was the wrong decision.
ALW said yesterday that he didn't rate Ashleys voice at all. So why save her then?
Thought Francesca definitely sang best in the sing off.

MargaretMountford · 20/04/2008 22:29

yes, Francesca did sing the best in sing off, but I think ALW was really taking into account the panel's opinions which I think was a good thing

seeker · 20/04/2008 22:39

Is it only me who thinks Jodie is awful? Still miss Cleo - can't believe she went out.

PotPourri · 20/04/2008 22:40

So what is the background on Francesca? I don't know anything about their backgrounds, but is she already an actress or something? Is she is anything that I would have seen?

She is really well spoken, hardly sounds welsh at all. And I agree with what someone else said, she has a strange way of talking/shape or mouth or something, that is uncomfortable to watch IMO. BUT, she was definately better in the sing off tonight, and really good at the goodbye song.

MargaretMountford · 20/04/2008 22:42

yes, I think Francesca has been in something with DVO -so a professional.
Seeker - am not keen on Jodie - too loud and brash

unknownrebelbang · 20/04/2008 22:56

Saw this for the first time last night.

Didn't like Jodie or Jessie.

Not fussed on Ashley, Keisha or Samantha.

Do like Sarah and Naimh.

Really like John Barrowman .

seeker · 20/04/2008 23:09

I just hate the way Jodie behaves when she's told she's safe for another week. All that shrieking and running and heaving bosoms. I want to shout "Have a bit of dignity, woman!"

Love Niamh - and the little Welsh Oliver - forget his name.

ipanemagirl · 21/04/2008 12:00

I agree about Francesca, her voice often doesn't make it and that's just not good enough imo.
Also, it's not very kind of me but I find her mouth really irritating to look at, there's something unattractive about her teeth that distracts me loads from what she's doing.

I would have ditched Ashley too myself. I think she's ok but she's a little bland, agree with the Lord, slightly unvarying voice and that smile - enough already STOP beaming at me you great hoofing lass!

I disagree Seeker, Cleo's voice was not nearly strong enough although she was a strong actress.

I think Rachel is the most realistic choice because she could actually DO the role 8 times a week and is really good, doesn't look quite right but could do it very well.

Sarah just looks eight, forget it, she's good but not for Nancy.

Jodie - Cabaret artiste, not right.

Jessie - great potential but would need a lot of work, dances like a bloke, moves in a really unattractive way.

Samanthat - a little dull imo but very able and should get work!

Niamh - totoally transfixing - can't take your eyes off her, Charismatic, star quality, angelic voice - BUT not right for Nancy. I LOVE her.

Keisha, too limited an actress but good strong voice. She'll be off next week for sure.

turquoise · 21/04/2008 12:07

So delighted to find some fellow Jodie-haters, she really gets on my tits, esp that ott carrying on when she stays in. Brash, thick and annoying IMO but I got the feeling they're setting her up to win the way they did with Connie.

Rachel for me, she's excellent, and about the only one who can act well enough.

MummyPenguin · 21/04/2008 13:17

Jodie will run away with the part, you wait and see. She's the most Nancyish Nancy there. (Apart from Graham )

I don't like Rachel, don't know why really, just haven't warmed to her. Don't like Jessie either (great hair though) she's conceited. I'm warming to Sarah, but still think she needs a lot more grit to pull off Nancy. Same goes with Niamh, although somehow I can see her as Nancy.

Jodie's my Nancy though, she has the grit, the personality, the edginess, the bubliness. As soon as I saw her in the early auditions I thought 'Nancy'
