Starting now - BBC1

I agree Tortoise, there was an air of stageschool going on! I quite liked the little blond mop haired surfing welsh lad. He seemed natural in some way. But some of them sang like angels didn't they?
Trivia question -in the film, did they use the actor's own voice? Presumably not. They need an angelic voice for those songs don't they, really a heavenly voice with big punch.

I guess they need to go for boys with, effectively, some training, or they'll simply fall over at a live performance won't they?

tortoiseSHELL · 23/03/2008 09:04

Definitely.

tiredemma · 23/03/2008 09:07

I loved this programme. Oliver! is my all time favourite film- I would loved to have played Nancy!!

Im disappointed that I never watched it from the first show now.

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 23/03/2008 09:50

I was preoccupied by counting the posh boys too !

thegrowlygus · 23/03/2008 10:20

I was thinking about the little boys too and how it would work - and how stressful they would find the live saturday shows - but then realized that if successful they will be doing an awful lot more than one live show a week. I guess they have to make sure they are up to it.

And yes - all seemed mighty posh to me!

As for Nancys - liked the girl that took her boyfriend along to the first auditions, and was gutted that Nancy Nancy was out. And I really liked the Irish girls earrings!

ipanemagirl · 24/03/2008 14:58

And does anyone think that the programme needed more weeping to really work?

notquitesobigfatpumpkinmummy · 24/03/2008 20:04

Only saw the last bit of the programme - what happened to Nancy who wanted to be Nancy, I thought she was fab and cant believe she didnt get through!? Can anyone help please??

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/03/2008 21:05

she got knocked out before the final lot went on to Sir Lord LLoyd Webber's house

notquitesobigfatpumpkinmummy · 24/03/2008 22:05

omg - why!!!???? She seemed perfect for the part...

ipanemagirl · 24/03/2008 23:19

My ds (7) watched the whole thing with me, rivetted by all the crying women and the deranged desire of them all. My dh looked at me as if letting him watch that was the equivalent of sending him to school in a taffeta frock and fairy crown.

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/03/2008 10:00

dh feels similarly about these things, though he agreed that nANCY Nancy shouldn't have gone...

ipanemagirl · 25/03/2008 13:28

Oh I missed which one was Nancy. I'm not sure which one I like best. I find it hard to concentrate because I'm so overwhelmed by all the magnificent wailing and weeping!

slayerette · 29/03/2008 19:38

HE SAID IT!

The first 'Fantastic, fantastic, FANTASTIC' of the new show - I feel it's properly begun now!

3NAB · 29/03/2008 20:16

Is it me or are most of the Nancy hopefuls completely unlikeable?

OP posts:
slayerette · 29/03/2008 20:39

I liked Keisha (who sang Mad About the Boy) and Samantha (I Love Rock n Roll) but there was no-one as striking as Lee last year imo. And wasn't the show just a bit bland? - no group songs, no bits of acting or interaction with the judges - who can forget John Barrowman snogging the Marias?

My favourite was the Welsh lad too, I'm glad he was picked, he's completely adorable.

The Olivers in a group were amazing though, very impressive.

I liked Samantha and Rachel the best and Niamh was amazing. I though Cleo's voice was a lot better this week and also she could act. Some of them were just so unflatteringly dressed that it was hard to even hear what they were singing, I flinched on occasion. That lass in the green dress, have mercy on us!

And that wrestler's daughter, put on some clothes!

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/03/2008 21:33

did you see Sir Lord Lloyd Webber looking at wrestler's daughter !!! I liked her and Rachel ... not sure about the little boys, the one called Chester is sweet.

I know!! his face is such a picture! we need one of those psychologists to tell us what all that terrible eye rolling and gurning head lolling is about.... but unfortunately I think we KNOW what it all means.

Barry Humphries is hysterical. He is such a dirty old man!! Shameless minty old bezzer but you have to hand it to him for frankness!

What about Denise Van O shaking off knowledge of that toothy lass who just ain't gonna get it. Oh I only passed her in the green room once, she was very new to west end, she may have made me tea but I really disown all knowledge and she was rubbish to nyah I discard her etc etc

John Barrowman is on some kind of medication surely?

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/03/2008 21:39

I hated Jessie's one - actually several were way too short imo...

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/03/2008 21:40

ipanema- yes, that was a bit off, and they showed a pic of DVO with Francesca on stage !!

ipanemagirl · 29/03/2008 21:41

Also mary ann I love the way La Norton calls him The Lord, that is very funny.

Was wondering, interesting how the more experienced performers had either been given or had wangled far more flattering dresses. That red head in the tight green silk number should just have said no, no, no, I will look like a Dough Boy, take it away.

And it's La Norton who keeps referring to their former acquaintance almost like he knows she's shaking her off! very funny.

But The Lord, what a strangely extraordinarily expressive face he has. There is no one like it. It's such a childlike face in its expressions don't you think? It's all going on there isn't it? He often looks about to cry. Bizarre. He's certainly no Simon Cowell frozen like cement by years of indifference!
