Starting now - BBC1

OP posts:

I warmed to Jessie again tonight. Samantha was my favourite but I think everyone knew after last week, including her, that it wasn't going to be her night tonight. I feel though that Jessie would be wasted on a role like this. She showed again tonight where her true strengths lie and I hope she finds a vehicle for them very very soon.

RoxyNotFoxy · 01/06/2008 00:40

Lawks-a-mercy, but what a collection of cockerney sparrers we've 'ad these past few weeks!

"Oi wown't betrye is trust, thow peepoo sye oi mast.."

Diamond geezerettes, every one.

TeenyTinyTorya · 01/06/2008 00:51

Yay! Jodie won!

slayerette · 01/06/2008 08:53

When you remember this

and this

I think squeaver's right. What performances from this year's show really stand out in the memory the same way?

beansprout · 01/06/2008 08:57

Totally agree, this really wasn't up to much. Jodie is no Lee Mead < states obvious >.

And just so embarassing that they clearly don't want her end-of-the-pier antics.

noddyholder · 01/06/2008 09:25

she is panto material at the very best.Cameron m said jessie was nancy and he and LW couldn't have been any clearer.Jodie was desperate which was cringey to watch She begged the public every week and cried and generally played the salt of teh earth down to earth card to perfection.I bet she won't be in it long

ShinyPinkShoes · 01/06/2008 09:30

I really thought Jessie would be great

tortoiseSHELL · 01/06/2008 09:45

Jessie's As Long as he needs me was the best of them all - it actually made me cry - a really special moment. Jodie's was just a bit 'blah blah'.

But I think ALW will look out for Jessie and guide her now. Hope so anyway. And for Sam as well.

Libra1975 · 01/06/2008 10:23

But Jessie can't ACT! There isn't even raw talent there to be bought out. Yes she can sing but it was telling that her last song was done entirely sitting down...

noddyholder · 01/06/2008 10:24

It was weird to see all the old contestants I couldn't really remember any of tehm

JulesJules · 01/06/2008 15:34

On Digital Spy, people are cross about the fact that there is a new (in the last week or so) message on the official Oliver website saying that the winner of the BBC show will be Nancy on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday matinee and Friday. So who is doing it on Thursday and the most important two shows on Saturday?? So much for all that "Eight shows a week" crap. It feels like they have got people voting under false pretences - just to make a change...

I liked Jodie, although I think Jessie actually did better overall on Saturday, I don't think she could have produced that performance night after night. However, I thought Cameron Macintosh was disgraceful. He has had weeks and weeks of free publicity courtesy of BBC licence payers, swelling his advance ticket sales and then he was so ungracious when he didn't get the Nancy he wanted. He can't have it both ways. According to the Sunday Times today, he also had a row with ALW because his previous favourite Nancy wasn't saved by ALW, whoever that was, it did not say.

MummyPenguin · 01/06/2008 15:44

I was delighted with the result. I've said all along that Jodie is perfect for Nancy. I did wonder last night if her age might go against her, she's quite a bit older than the original Nancy. The public made the right choice for sure. I'm not sure that Jessie would have the stamina for 8 shows a week. She'll get a career out of it anyway. CM and/or ALW will put her in another musical probably.

Libra1975 · 01/06/2008 15:45

CM wanted Rachael.

tortoiseSHELL · 01/06/2008 16:43

Still don't like Jodie! Objectively, probably Rachel or Sarah should have won, with Jessie and Sam being 'gambles' that could have been sensational, and Niamh being interesting. Jodie feels like a 'rehash' of Nancies past - I'm not convinced it will be an exciting performance, especially judging on her As Long as he needs me, which was dull.

RoxyNotFoxy · 01/06/2008 16:44
  1. Where did this idea come from that Jessie lacks stamina and wouldn't be up to 8 shows a week?
  1. What happens when Jodie goes back on the cream cakes?
TheWoman · 01/06/2008 16:48

"What happens when Jodie goes back on the cream cakes?"

Not been to the opera then?

Raahh · 01/06/2008 17:14

i thought Sarah would have been great, she was really talented- but her height became an issue. Which makes me really annoyed when watching these progs- she was in the final 12- they didn't notice beforethat that she wasn't v tall?
Like Simona in "Maria'- she was never really going to be able to get rid of her accent, but they stil put her through- and then criticised her week after week!

But however annoyed i get, i still watch

NotABanana · 01/06/2008 17:20

Jodie is going to prove us all wrong by going on a strict diet.

tortoiseSHELL · 01/06/2008 17:59

Raah - I was very amused by the Simona accent, in the context of Jessie's Irish accent. ALW REALLY couldn't get past her East European accent, but argued that 'Nancy could well have been Irish, there were 73,000 Irish in London....' - well one thing we can be CERTAIN of is that Maria didn't have an English accent - and probably had an accent more similar to Simona's than ANY of the other girls!

Sarah was short - but I think the wardrobe people accentuated that with some HIDEOUS outfits!

mrsshackleton · 01/06/2008 21:21

Jodie is dull, dull, dull [John Barrowman pointing emoticon]
So unimaginative. Jessie was the best on the night by far and Sam is gorgeous, I hope she goes far

MargaretMountford · 01/06/2008 21:31

very disappointed in the choice of Jodie, really wanted Samantha - bet CM is gutted underneath

pofaced · 01/06/2008 21:40

Jessie was/ is fab... but she's also only 18 so hopefully will get god training etc and getto grow up away from the limelight and then take the West End by storm and destroy John B in the process.... I really liked hom on other shows but though he was unnecxessarily nasty in this series.

Jodie's fiine but I won't pay West End prices to see her

pofaced · 01/06/2008 21:41

....even good training (rather than see revival of Godspell!)

beansprout · 01/06/2008 21:50

I don't think JB was that harsh. They should make critical comments, otherwise, what's the point?

TeenyTinyTorya · 01/06/2008 22:21

I thought it was good that JB was critical. That's the reality of the theatre - you don't go into this business if you don't want criticism.
