Starting now - BBC1

OP posts:
MargaretMountford · 19/05/2008 20:10

or maybe she isn't good enough or else she'd have a got a big break earlier ?

Tippychick · 20/05/2008 09:07

Noooo Chickenmamma, the show DOES need that kind of bitching. That's what makes it great.

ipanemagirl · 20/05/2008 14:02

Yes, Rachel and Sam totally hate each other. I think Rachel sees Sam as the biggest threat.

Were'nt a few of those Olivers flat in their song?

Sad about Niamh, I know she was wrong but she is Noel Fielding's sister and I think she's adorable.

Does she actually have a chance at another part in the show? That would be quite an interesting twist I guess (I have tickets for me and ds in January and am starting to care who wins! - don't want Rachel or Jessie much. Would prefer Sam, she's a proper star - not that bothered about Jodie really, she's such a ham actor don't you think?)

Chickenmamma · 21/05/2008 15:22

Well the fact we are all talking about it probably proves that you're right Tippychick

slayerette · 21/05/2008 21:28

Kwayedza's voice is breaking! He's barely going to make it to the end of the series, never mind into the actual production itself, as a soprano!

LIZS · 21/05/2008 21:31

I think they'll pick Johnny but with 6 months to go before the show even opens I'd be worried about his voice holding out. Presumably they'll have a reserve or 2 for the final 3 just in case ? How long a run can each trio do per year ?

RosaLuxembourg · 21/05/2008 21:33

Yes, I thought that too, Slayerette. There are a couple of those 13 year olds who are pushing it really.
Oh, and was it just me, or was Reach for the stars a frightful mess on Saturday?

The thirteen yr olds must be coming to the end of Yr 8 - and I've rarely taught a Yr 9 lad whose voice wasn't broken or all but by the end of the year. So if the show doesn't begin for another 6 mths, the 13 yr olds haven't a chance.

MargaretMountford · 21/05/2008 22:42

they just look so alike Waswondering - not really related !

beansprout · 24/05/2008 19:45

Yep, stand by what I said last week... Jessie to go this week.

ellceeell · 24/05/2008 19:56

I think Jessie should go - but I was surprised to find myself warming to Jodie! She did that song well. Cruel to make her duet with Sam, though.

chocolateshoes · 24/05/2008 19:56

Am wondering now if Jodie might win afterall but would prefer it to be Sam. Although Jessie has a good voice I don't think she's right for Nancy.

roisin · 24/05/2008 20:01

I want Rachel to win!
Quite like Sam too though.

I love Jessie, but can't see her as Nancy. Jodie doesn't do it for me at all.

katebee · 24/05/2008 20:01

I have been a Rachel fan for a few weeks and thought she was fantastic tonight.. could really imagine her as Nancy. I so hope she will avoid the sing off this time.

Now time for Eurovision! Hope I don't fall asleep in front of it like last year!

turquoise · 24/05/2008 20:01

I missed the beginning - how was Rachel this week? Think it was a bit manipulative to give her and Jessie Buenos Aires to sing - it's bloody difficult, and not something an audience who doesn't know it will warm to particularly (I love it though!).

Only caught the very end of Jessie - very OTT imo. Jodie was quite good but just annoying.

Hopefully Jessie to go tonight - she definitely seems the weakest now.

glinda · 24/05/2008 20:09

Jodie or Rachel for me. Sam is too young and slightly one dimensional and Jessie can't move to save her life!
Why do you say that it was cruel to pair Jodie with Sam? I thought that she performed brilliantly.

glinda · 24/05/2008 20:11

Rachel was tremendous tonight. She sang Caberet and got a standing ovation from the panel led by the Lord himself!

turquoise · 24/05/2008 20:22

Am off to watch Rachel on iplayer then. So glad she's come up trumps, I really rated her up till the last 2 weeks.

Jodie just looked so lumpen next to Sam, and a bit one dimensional. And as for her "I can move like you wouldn't believe chuck" assertions - well, looked more like the back end of a pantomime horse to me.

RoxyNotFoxy · 24/05/2008 20:26

John Barrowman has had it in for Jessie for weeks now. Tonight he was really nasty, saying Sam was like a shark gliding through the water while Jessie was like a fish flapping about on the surface. That was a really shit thing to say, gratutously insulting, and it's making me start to seriously dislike him.

I thought Rachel was the best tonight, but she won't win. I think the final finishing order will be -

Sam
Jodie
Jessie
Rachel

glinda · 24/05/2008 20:27

NO!!! You don't have to be a size 6 to dance!!!! Jodie rocked!

CrackerOfNuts · 24/05/2008 20:28

I think Sam should and will win.

Final order Sam, Rachel, Jodie, Jessie.

tortoiseSHELL · 24/05/2008 20:28

I thought they all did well this evening, though was slightly bored by Jodie, and thought Jessie was nervous. Jodie and Sam's duet was streets ahead of Rachel and Jessie's, but was a much easier song.

I think what ALW said about Sam was true - if she wins, they've got 6 months to draw out the remaining facets of Nancy. If Rachel wins, I don't see them finding much else in there - she is a finished product, Sam is only in the development stages, but is up there with Rachel in terms of current performance - therefore could be MASSES better than her by the time of the opening night - but also could be far more interesting and exciting.

pofaced · 24/05/2008 20:31

Unlike everyone else, including the panel, I thought Rachel's Cabaret was pants! She tried and failed to do a Minnelli rather than putting her own spin... I think Jessie has fab voice and can learn to move etc over next months: her voice is soo powerful... Sam obviously polished but lacking emotion and Jodie fine but not my cup of tea...

I appreciate above opinions won't find support but, even still, does anyone else think John is actively nasty in comments about Jessie eg referring to her as "a fish out of water" when discussing Sam's performance?
