TurnipHead - isn't there an actress who spells it Neve ? I love all the spellings of Irish names

Zebedeedoodah · 13/05/2008 15:45

There is MM. But I've a feeling she prounounces it Nev.

tortoiseSHELL · 13/05/2008 16:11

That's interesting Scotia - didn't see that!

Turniphead - I was talking about MY creative spelling when taking phone messages as a temp when I first moved to Ireland. I'm well aware it's a different language.

No bother Turniphead. You can imagine how long it took me to get Saoirse .(In fact, not sure if I spelt it right then)

mumdebump · 14/05/2008 21:37

Thank you. I am enlightened. I thought it must be something to do with the 'h' but would never have thought mh=v. (Looks like a scary physics equation!)

Is there somewhere that you can get a guide to Irish pronunciation so I don't make a complete * of myself when meeting someone Irish for the first time?

tortoiseSHELL · 17/05/2008 21:03

Yay for Sam. She rocks!

SlartyBartFast · 17/05/2008 21:05

why do some of you call Rachel a pro???

tortoiseSHELL · 17/05/2008 21:06

Because she is!

tortoiseSHELL · 17/05/2008 21:06

There were 2 pros in the competition - Rachel and Francesca, and in fact Francesca had worked as Rachel's understudy! But I really really don't like Rachel now. She is so duuuuulllll

theheadgirl · 17/05/2008 21:14

Sam had my vote this evening. I think Niamh will go. Sad about that cos I've enjoyed watching her. Rachel not that good, and not that likeable IMO (I know its the editing though!)

ellceeell · 17/05/2008 21:16

Tonight is the first time I have voted in this competition. The trouble is, I think I'm voting for the least worst rather than the best. I have finally decided that I don't like Rachel or Niamh at all for Nancy - I'm looking forward to tomorrow's programme to see who is in the bottom two.

CrackerOfNuts · 17/05/2008 21:17

I think Sam was the best tonight.

Rachel was good, but she so loves herself it puts me right off her.

Jessie was very poor tonight I think.

beansprout · 17/05/2008 21:31

I still like Jodie.

MargaretMountford · 17/05/2008 22:10

SAM is best by far - go Sam !!!

RosaLuxembourg · 17/05/2008 22:12

I thought the backing dancers for Jodie were hilarious, I was laughing so much I could hardly hear what she was singing.
Rachel must go, she is such a cold fish. Nancy needs some human warmth goddammit.
I still like Jessie but she warn't very good tonight.

expatinscotland · 17/05/2008 22:13

Jodie looks like a tranny.

beansprout · 17/05/2008 22:15

Jodie looks like a woman and the rest are skinny girls.

expatinscotland · 17/05/2008 22:16

a woman with the face of a tranny.

Twinklemegan · 17/05/2008 22:16

I think they'd all find it easier if they were able to sing real theatre songs instead of desperately trying to inject theatrical emotion into bland pop songs.

beansprout · 17/05/2008 22:17

Have you looked at her hands?

Neck and hands sweetie, neck and hands.....

beansprout · 17/05/2008 22:18

Good point Twinkle.

Am bored with seeing Jessie go through the same range of gestures each week.

notnowbernard · 17/05/2008 22:19

I thought Jodie performed well tonight

Thought Sam was crap (shouty and tinny... dress AWFUL)

Rachel too bland but looked fab

Niamh, still too young and waiflike

Jessie is my fave but not her best performance
