I am glad sarah went she is like a little chipmunk too cutesy for nancy.Rachel is best Jessie like a big farmers wife just don't see the attraction

PotPourri · 04/05/2008 21:38

I am glad Sarah went too. Also agree, chipmunk is a good description - I found her uncomfortable to watch. Jessie, I find odd TBH, and Niamh is far to much of a delicate flower for the Nancy role. And Ashely is just so in yer face. All that 'Yes, Yes' and whooping is just inappropriate and so competitive. Ashely and Jodie need to go, they are just not that good.

ACtually, as time is going on, I am starting to think that I don't really care - they are all quite annoying, but could all do a good enough job. Will still watch it though!!

hotcrossbunny · 04/05/2008 21:40

I am a fool. I cried when Sarah went

I was so geared up for Asahley or Jodie going, it was a shock that the nicest one with the best voice went, even though I don't think Nancy is necessarily the right role for her.

What was ALW going on about - concerns? All of the Nancies or just those too? I find Rachel really irritating and complacent - I think she expected to win, so being in the bottom two might sort her out a bit.

Sam went up in my estiamation this week and Jessie gave me goose bumps last night.

tortoiseSHELL · 04/05/2008 23:41

I think ALW meant he cared about them, rather than 'had concerns', he is concerned - iyswim.

MummyPenguin · 05/05/2008 09:54

I was sad to see Sarah go too. She was one of my favourites. She may not be right for Nancy, but she's just so nice and very gracious too. Usually, when the one that goes out is singing As Long As.. the one that was saved looks emotional and sad to see the other girl go, but Rachel had a tilt to her chin and a hard look about her. I haven't liked her from the start.

Jodie may well be caberetish, but so was Nancy too, in a way, if you think about it. I still say she's the best for the role.

I wonder why Ashley's getting the public vote?

I'm not a fan of Jessie, but she is an amazing singer.

I don't really rate most of those Olivers. A lot of them are just quite 'flat' and unintersting imo. Some of them have had a brush with the ugly stick too...

lisad123 · 05/05/2008 14:00

I nearly cried when Sarahj went, she seems to be nice girl. I hate Ashley, especially when she punches the air Ashley shouold go nest week.

CrackerOfNuts · 05/05/2008 14:03

I think it is so mean to tell them who got the least votes. They are already in the sing off, so why add insult to injury.

TillyScoutsmum · 05/05/2008 14:19

Who the fecking hell is voting for Ashley ?! She was about as sexy and appealing as a verruca in her song. Awful

Jessie gave me goosebumps - but agree her mouth is somewhat distracting

Really liked Sarah but think she is more Julie Andrews than Nancy

Not a massive fan of Rachel - she's very "competent" but just a bit dull

Really liked Jodie at the beginning but her OTT ness is beginning to get on my nerves. PMSL when she thought the Olivers had chosen her to sing with them

Niamh is truly stunning but just think she's way too delicate looking to be Nancy

Jesse and Sam are my current faves

RosaLuxembourg · 05/05/2008 14:23

I think the Scots are letting national pride get in the way of an honest appraisal of talent when it comes to voting for Ashley. PMSL at as sexy as a verruca!

twinsetandpearls · 05/05/2008 14:30

I cried when the girl left last night but she was not right for the part IMO.

Jodie gets on my nerves, there is a Jodie on every corner here in Blackpool. Not in a prossie kind of way but just a girl with heaving bosoms, dodgy barnet and a belting voice.

TillyScoutsmum · 05/05/2008 14:56

I think you're right Rosa ... MacDonald Brothers in X Factor all over again.

MummyPenguin · 05/05/2008 21:12

I bought the original Oliver film on dvd today and watched it this afternoon. Nancy (Shani Wallis) isn't as brash and ballsy as I seemed to remember, and actually, I think Jodie is in fact too brash for the part. Shani Wallis's portrayal of Nancy showed a certain amount of brashness and ballsiness, but a lot of vulnerability too. I think if Niamh could manage to be a bit edgier and grittier, she'd be perfect for the part, out of the girls that are left on IDA.

SlartyBartFast · 05/05/2008 22:18

but i think ALW wants somethign different from the film, more rough i think is the phrase i keep hearing.

MummyPenguin · 06/05/2008 10:58

Yes, I think so too. The Nancy in the film is meeker than you remember, if you haven't seen it for a long time. She's also very much a victim, suffering violence at the hands of Bill Sykes. I obviously hadn't seen it in years as I was shocked that in the film Bill Sykes actually kills Nancy in the end!

Perhaps Jodie would be the best for the West End role after all!!

ipanemagirl · 06/05/2008 13:00

Mummy Penguin pmsl at Olivers being brushed with the ugly stick!!!!

Sarah was really good but she did look like a pretty little tub in those dreadful frocks. I saw the film of the musical (Ron Moody et al) yesterday and the film Nancy is just so so beautiful, she can't be a tubby little barrel really, however good a voice. I think it's superficial of me and unsisterly but I do think Nancy needs to be beautiful too! The only real beauty is Niamh though but on stage Rachel could do beauty I'm sure. We have such close ups as viewers that won't be the case on stage will it? Jodie has lots of the ingredients but in the end, not really a beauty. Jessie is getting there despite being a sidey facey.

But ASHLEY!! She is just so hammy and vulgar and mono- expressioned, all that googling at the camera! But the BBC can't just ignore the public vote can it?

I wonder whether Sam might go a long way with her personal islands's support??

EffiePerine · 06/05/2008 13:06

Finally got round to watching this and though I love Sarah's voice I think it was the right decision. She made SUCH a hash of that song and Rachel just sounded dull.

The big surprise for me was Jessie: never been a fan, but she was ahead of everyone else by miles. DH and I were actually speechless.

I thought Sam did well too - great performance.

EffiePerine · 06/05/2008 13:07

on the Olivers, I have been rooting for Jordan as he looks suitably cheeky . Not sure his voice is up to it though .

Isn't Kwayzeda's voice about to break? He's taller than the rest too - surely a worry for that age group.

singersgirl · 06/05/2008 13:11

DH can't bear to watch this sort of stuff, but he turned round from his laptop when Jessie sang and said "Oh, well, there's no contest. She's in a different league." I think she has an amazing voice.

I thought Sarah and Ashley would be in the bottom 2 and Ashley would go. I'm amazed she stayed in too, particularly following Jessie's virtuoso performance.

ipanemagirl · 06/05/2008 13:15

yeah, there's definitely something going wrong with Kwayedza's voice it is too inconsistent for him to win imo, also he looks a little tall. I think Oliver should be really little.

My fave is Gwion, he just looks the part and has such a good natured impishness.

Loads of them look like hugely self conscious choristers all yearning innocence, able enough but too knowing for my taste.

I also like Arthur and Laurence too.

Don't like Chester, looks too nervous when he sings

Don't like Jordan his smile is a bit creepy for me.

Twinkie1 · 06/05/2008 13:21

DOes anyone else think Sarah sounded like one of the bloody Disney Princesses - just realised why I detested her so much - because I have to listen to those bloody princesses singing all of the time!

mumdebump · 06/05/2008 14:14

Do you think people didn't vote for Rachel because they just assumed she'd be ok given the panel's support every week, or do you think people think she's too professional and maybe a bit boring?

Shame to see Sarah go but she wasn't very good this week and Dame Edna was right, she is too limited in her facial expressions. Awful sing off too.

ipanemagirl · 06/05/2008 14:41

Sarah was going to go sometime but I still feel that
A S H L E Y should've gone first!!

I agree about the public vote, I didn't bother voting for Niamh because I assumed she was safe. I think a lot of people assume Rachel's safe too. But she may not inspire the public love of an underdog/amateur the way the non-profs do.
Also some of the Celts are getting a stupendous regional support! Isle of Sam? That's pretty fabulous.

ipanemagirl · 06/05/2008 15:08

Jessie was fab this week

MargaretMountford · 06/05/2008 20:11

Ashley's punching the air type things when she is still in the run ning are vile

ipanemagirl · 06/05/2008 22:26

I stood up when I read your post MM!
