Starting now - BBC1

OP posts:
beansprout · 28/04/2008 10:54

Who is the ahem, larger lady from Blackpool? She is really growing on me.

belgo · 28/04/2008 10:54

That's Jodie.

ipanemagirl · 28/04/2008 10:57

Rachel has to be the most reliable bet for a real West End run doesn't she? But I think Sarah is starting to look a slightly better actress and SO passionate. Rachel doesn't really do "I've suffered" much better although a good actress.

I'm stumped by Jodie, I do like her and want her to do well but the googling eyes and the cabaret movement, I don't think she's going to change enough to pull it off.

But who knows! It's tv heaven I must go and get a life now!!!

MargaretMountford · 28/04/2008 10:58

reckon Jodie'll be out soon

belgo · 28/04/2008 10:58

Rachel and Sarah are probably the best bets. I still can't make up my mind about Jodie - she's just irritating when she starts talking.

noddyholder · 28/04/2008 11:00

I think rachel will win as she is the most convincing by far.Don't like the blackpool landlady one though She just looks wrong and is v irritating and always crying.Niamh will do something but not this and the little one is annoying too.

ipanemagirl · 28/04/2008 11:02

LOL LOL LOL at your name MargaretMountford. That is fabulous of you to have that name. I'm standing up as I type this out of respect.

I'd like to see MM and that wincing bloke and Sir AS do one round of I'd do Anything.

Can you imagine "Ashley! Eya, You, I'm sicka the sight of you, get out of here, go home you're fired you grinning nutter!"

Margaret would want Rachel to win I think coz she's a pro and looks like a Nice Girl.

ipanemagirl · 28/04/2008 11:03

Niamh has to have a career doesn't she. She is hypnotic to me, just beautiful and such a voice! But honestly, she's ain't Nancy is she?

ipanemagirl · 28/04/2008 12:33

I clearly have an unhealthy fixation with this programme, be honest, I do don't I?

It just ain't dignified of me.

flatmouse · 28/04/2008 12:52

My thoughts:

Niamh - sang appallingly on Saturday - was awful to listen to and she did not look comfortable with the dancing either. Agree overall she is very watchable and has that "star" quality but not for this role, and not yet - give her a few years.
Rachel - the "pro". She's OK, certainly can tell by consistency that she's been there. She could do the role, but i'm no way rooting for her. Dont' believe she fully deserves the plaudits from the panel week after week.
Sarah - i like her! at first felt she over-acted everything, but she's toned it down a bit now.
Jessie - can't get past her sneer. Did notice that this week the DvO knife was implanted firmly "does this mean Jessie can't take direction" ouch!
Samantha - really see nothing here. After her special time with JB she has become very shouty - overdoing it a bit.
Ashley - she comes across well on video clips but so badly on the live show. What is with that hairstyle? they only had time to do half of it? so unflattering.
Keisha - i liked her but not as nancy.
Jodie - hmm not sure, like others cannot stand the OTT especially when "saved". I can see promise here tho, wish she'd dye her hair - do not like the grey highlights look.

So reading back, i seem to be in favour of Sarah at the moment.

ALW strop at the end really amused me. What does he expect???

ipanemagirl · 28/04/2008 14:04

flatmouse, fine summary of the state of play!
know what you mean about Rachel. She's the conservative choice and I've wondered on occasion whether her performance is as perfect as they say. But as you say, the live thing is a different judgement I guess.
DvO on Jessie, total stab in the back.

And the lip trembling appeals the girls/women sometimes make! Just shuddup! Don't make excuses! Take it like a big girl!!!

Yes Sarah is probably my fave now too. But she does look 8!!!

MargaretMountford · 28/04/2008 14:12

ipanemagirl !

ipanemagirl · 28/04/2008 17:31

I stood up before I read your post M Mountford!!!

MummyPenguin · 30/04/2008 08:48

I don't think we should shoot Niamh down for singing Valerie. As I said in an earlier post, it wasn't a good choice for her. To be honest, it wouldn't be a good choice for anyone other than Amy Winehouse. It's just one of those songs. Let's see what she does next week, sorry this week. Someone in an earlier post said she can't sing upbeat numbers and is only good at ballads. She has done a lot of ballads hasn't she? I'm sure she's done some upbeat stuff to, just that I can't remember any. I can actually somehow see her as Nancy, but she'd need to be a lot grittier and edgier.

I think ALW was right to get rid of Keisha. The public have out her in the bottom two three times now, and on Saturday two of the panel said that she wasn't Nancy. He's gone with the majority and rightly so. Ashley's expression makes me laugh when it's 'voting time' and the results are just about to be announced. She looks like she's going to murder someone. Looks a bit like Kathy Bates in Misery. She started off likeable, I thought, but has become worse over the weeks. All that punching the air and "yes Yes-ing" when she was put through was just a bit ridiculous. Even Jodie was calmer and more dignified about it last week. Good old Jodie, she's still Nancy as far as I'm concerned.

Tippychick · 30/04/2008 10:30

I still like Sarah, Samantha and Jodie. Ashley is just annoying. Niamh and Jessie are very good, Niamh more so, but not suitable fo rthe role I think. That's in my hugely qualified opinion you understand.

Agree with mummypenguin, the yessing on Sunday turned me right off Ashley.

MargaretMountford · 30/04/2008 12:51

agree MummyPenguin and Tippychick too - Ashley's 'yessing' very undignified and off putting

ipanemagirl · 30/04/2008 16:20

I just can't bear Ashley, her voice isn't up to it imo, simply outclassed by the others and far too much simpering to the camera and far too much grinning like a maniac on drugs!

ipanemagirl · 02/05/2008 17:06

Ds just said "one more day until I'd do Anything mum!"

ellceeell · 02/05/2008 17:13

ipanemagirl · 02/05/2008 17:23

Oh I just Stood Up when I saw your post Mme Mountford

dh thinks my allowing ds (7) to watch IDA is the equivalent of sending him to Gay School!

(No offence intended!)

MargaretMountford · 02/05/2008 17:31

about gay school !! - it's all so gloriously camp and wonderful !

ipanemagirl · 02/05/2008 17:35

I know I love it so much!
I love it liked I loved going to Singalonga Soundamusic with a friend. Boy did I singalonga!!!
But ds loves it just as much as me, we're obsessed. dh will not enter the room while it broadcasts and completely despises us.
He doesn't do musicals.
He doesn't do Graham Norton neither!

Oh Margaret, what about those awful eco greeting cards? And the way they all turned on Sara (?) And the way Wafe rushed to her defence!!!!

Am hooked on both! Worth a good bit of my license fee!!

MargaretMountford · 02/05/2008 18:45
