THIS IS A TV PACED THREAD

New drama. On Mon and Tue for 3 weeks

the six part series is an addictive, emotional roller coaster and looks at how we never know what goes on behind closed doors.

When Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) and Pete (Alfred Enoch) move into an upscale neighbourhood, they find themselves in a world of curtain twitching and status anxiety.

But soon find friendship in the shape of the couple next door, alpha traffic cop Danny (Sam Heughan) and his wife, glamorous yoga instructor Becka (Jessica De Gouw).

As time goes on, these two couples get increasingly close to each other and one fateful night, become sexually entangled in a way that will change their lives forever…

Starring Sam Heughan (Outlander, Suspect), Eleanor Tomlinson (The Outlaws, Poldark), Jessica De Gouw (Pennyworth, Our Man from Jersey) and Alfred Enoch (Tigers, How To Get Away with Murder), the first looks have been released for The Couple Next Door which is coming this Autumn to stream and watch live on Channel 4.

Produced by Eagle Eye Drama (Suspect, Professor T, Before We Die), The Couple Next Door is a deliciously dark, psychological drama, exploring the claustrophobia of suburbia and the fallout of chasing your deepest desires. Directed by Dries Vos (Suspect, Professor T) and written by David Allison (Bedlam, Marcella)

I am quite enjoying it but cannot get past the fact that the Eleanor Tomlinson one seems to have forgotten / got over her baby loss. Last thing on my mind at this stage would be shagging the neighbour. Or anyone. Would be consumed by grief.
And the Leeds / not Leeds thing is pretty jarring too.

the80sweregreat · 29/11/2023 20:24

Where can you park on the beach in the UK that looks like that ?
She has moved on from losing her baby very quickly
Becky looks a bit like Kelly Brook I think

SabrinaThwaite · 29/11/2023 21:11

Lots of fab beaches with dunes along the Dutch coast.

the80sweregreat · 30/11/2023 06:29

I've never been to the Netherlands.
I loved at the end of episode two when the voiceover assured us that no animals were harmed
Those koi fish played a cracking role not swimming around at all and playing dead lol
I wonder why she killed them
She is dodgy , they don't own that big house without a scam of some kind I bet ( even if the hubby seems on the level)
She muttered something about it episode one

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/11/2023 13:43

Agree losing a much wanted baby then fantasying over the terminator neighbour

Oh my I've nearly finished and LOVED this, so many strands to the story .. I love the mix of old cars, Yorkshire accents, beautiful beaches and danish houses! It's so random 🤣

Rubidium · 30/11/2023 21:39

The choice of setting it in Leeds is probably because Channel 4 have a new HQ there. Some bits are filmed in Leeds: the police HQ is Leeds University and there was a scene where Pete was running past the Civic Hall. The location thing is a distraction when you know somewhere, but they will probably sell this abroad and Outlander fans around the world watching it for Sam Heughan won’t know that there are no beaches like that anywhere near Leeds. I hope it doesn’t attract tourists like Outlander does to Scotland - they’ll be very disappointed!

Also, if you can remember Milky Milky from The Mary Whitehouse Experience it should come as no surprise that Hugh Dennis can do creepy.

butterpuffed · 01/12/2023 16:36

How can Sam and his work colleague get away with their job on the side while in police uniform ~ I know they got caught once but surely it'd be every time as they're so conspicuous . Not sure why Sam owes money...

I also think it was tablets Emma threw in the fish pond . Although she was happy for her sister , losing her baby was devastating , she couldn't show her how she felt , and probably did it in frustration .

Not sure I've seen that

Unless I've missed it in e1&2

Please no spoilers on episodes that haven't been shown on tv

I've not seen that either , must be in later episodes .

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/11/2023 12:57

I never question where it is filmed /location

Doesn't make a diff to the plot

I don't know why but it really bothers me. Blush

LadyEloise1 · 01/12/2023 18:41

Initially I thought it might be Australia or USA.
I knew it wasn't Leeds even though I've never been to Leeds 😂

The Australian actress who plays Becka was the lead actress in The Secrets She Keeps.
Did anyone on this thread watch that ?

StuartSheehyisBack · 01/12/2023 19:48

As if a policeman wouldnt have a ring doorbell, or be stupid enough to leave a key outside in a plant pot for anyone to take to let themselves in.

And apparently NONE of the neighbours mentions to anyone else (esp the swingers) about pervy Alan letting himself in throughout the day 🙄

Am sticking with it C4, I hope you appreciate it 😁and it is worth my while!

ellebelli · 01/12/2023 20:44

I watched "The secrets she keeps" enjoyed it.
I am enjoying this too, I am glad it is set where it is, it lends an American feel to it.
Not the biggest fan of British TV series.

Angrycat2768 · 01/12/2023 20:58

I'm watching this too. It's bonkers! What's the point of the Alan character? What on earth is going on with the partner swapping business? Do people actually do that in suburbia? It's utterly nuts but I'm there for it!

Yes I liked that! I thought it was filmed in Australia at first too.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/12/2023 23:06

I thought I recognized the Becky actress
She is very attractive and a figure to die for

WGACA · 02/12/2023 13:26

I’m so gutted this is not based on the Shari Lapena book! I’m on the first episode and it’s reminding me of a Channel 5 drama.

purpleme12 · 02/12/2023 23:41

Newtonianmechanics · 28/11/2023 19:37

Enjoyed the first episode but I thought it was set in the USA at first the street does not look Yorkshire at all.
It was filmed in Holland so that makes sense. It definitely doesn't have a British feel.

Yes America was the first thing I thought of!

Me too, I was disappointed. I love Shari Lapena's work. I'm not sure about this one.

JMSA · 03/12/2023 12:45

Thanks for tagging me, Blondes!
Confession time, but I binged this over the weekend ShockBlush
Never again though, as it was tortuous sitting through this years terrible Christmas ads.

JMSA · 03/12/2023 12:51

Time and time again!

JMSA · 03/12/2023 12:54

My thoughts (strictly no spoilers):

The Australian actress who plays Becka is so much more natural than the others. She's excellent. The redhead is good too, though a bit annoying with the OTT sexy body language. Sam Heughan is a bit wooden though.

Evie is a bastard for killing the fish. Sorry, but animal lover here.
