Blondeshavemorefun · 25/11/2023 21:35

THIS IS A TV PACED THREAD

New drama. On Mon and Tue for 3 weeks

the six part series is an addictive, emotional roller coaster and looks at how we never know what goes on behind closed doors.

When Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) and Pete (Alfred Enoch) move into an upscale neighbourhood, they find themselves in a world of curtain twitching and status anxiety.

But soon find friendship in the shape of the couple next door, alpha traffic cop Danny (Sam Heughan) and his wife, glamorous yoga instructor Becka (Jessica De Gouw).

As time goes on, these two couples get increasingly close to each other and one fateful night, become sexually entangled in a way that will change their lives forever…

Starring Sam Heughan (Outlander, Suspect), Eleanor Tomlinson (The Outlaws, Poldark), Jessica De Gouw (Pennyworth, Our Man from Jersey) and Alfred Enoch (Tigers, How To Get Away with Murder), the first looks have been released for The Couple Next Door which is coming this Autumn to stream and watch live on Channel 4.

Produced by Eagle Eye Drama (Suspect, Professor T, Before We Die), The Couple Next Door is a deliciously dark, psychological drama, exploring the claustrophobia of suburbia and the fallout of chasing your deepest desires. Directed by Dries Vos (Suspect, Professor T) and written by David Allison (Bedlam, Marcella)

Bother. I recognised it as The Swingers straight away. I really enjoyed that story although the acting was variable I found.
I’m vaguely interested to see how it compares to a British version but disappointed they couldn’t do a new thriller. The assigners was (2017) Or at least mention somewhere it had been done under a different name.

Psychoticbreak · 28/11/2023 07:20

I got to episode 4 last night so two left for tonight. Only I am up for work I would have binged the rest.

Can't reconcile these houses with Leeds

Why did they choose to film in a location which is so obviously not Leeds?

GetYourBaublesOut · 28/11/2023 16:18

Why did they choose to film in a location which is so obviously not Leeds?

I read somewhere they really wanted to something to 'feel off' when you were watching it, like something didn't seem right.

Personally, I think the entirely different country was the wrong thing to pick and maybe they could have achieved something similar with colours or sounds. Instead, we spent too long here arguing about which country is was meant to be set in. It was a distraction.

Didn't help that at one point in episode 1, Eleanor T looked like she had a bit of a tan Grin

MoChridhe · 28/11/2023 18:24

I found that the story build distracted me from the location in next episodes. Location ceased to matter

Newtonianmechanics · 28/11/2023 19:37

Enjoyed the first episode but I thought it was set in the USA at first the street does not look Yorkshire at all.
It was filmed in Holland so that makes sense. It definitely doesn't have a British feel.

Newtonianmechanics · 28/11/2023 20:55

The plugs are not British in the home of the peeping Tom.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/11/2023 21:05

Really ? In the middle of the street ?

Or was that her imagination

OP posts:
MoChridhe · 28/11/2023 21:46

Definitely her imagination 😂Loving the beach conversation

MoChridhe · 28/11/2023 21:48

But did she give the fish too much food. She seems unhappy about her sister's news. As for creepy Alan!

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/11/2023 22:48

I get why she found her sister news hard

I was the same when friends told me they weee preg. Yes I was happy for them but struggled

Don't forget they've had 2 mc and then ivf via speed donor ended up with dead baby and having to induce and give birth 🥲

Dad the vicar with his ivf is a sin and why failed

Needs to be natural 🙀😡

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 28/11/2023 22:50

And yes the beach was def a let's see if you are interested in a little swapping

The shoot out at the end was that a fix as they seemed very trigger happy on the van after the driver ran away

But didn't kill either of the cops who we know are dodgy

Is it organs they are delivering for transplant so black market

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 28/11/2023 22:50

Alan is a nutter

I thought she gave the fish all of her pills not fish food? I thought it was her medications?

Can't reconcile these houses with Leeds

That's what I said to DH but he insisted it was filmed in Leeds

MoChridhe · 29/11/2023 10:51

I thought it was pills as well but noticed she was getting them out of the fish food box. Sorry I don't know what koi food looks like.

SabrinaThwaite · 29/11/2023 11:35

I am a bit irked as they aren’t “the couple next door” - more like “the couple over the road”?

The houses are in Eindhoven - you can use Google maps and Streetview if you put in 40 Buddy Boldenlaan (Becka and Danny’s house).

List of filming locations is here: https://www.atlasofwonders.com/2023/11/where-was-the-couple-next-door-filmed.html?m=1#:~:text=The%20Brutalist%2Dstyle%20block%20of,Le%20Corbusier%20in%20the%201930s.

Hugh Dennis is doing a good job as the creepy peeping tom.

iamwhatiam23 · 29/11/2023 11:51

Am i the only person who thinks this is pure drivel? I can't get past the awful choice of locations for filming that look absolutely nothing like Leeds and the dodgy accents and the huge holes in the plot lines?

SabrinaThwaite · 29/11/2023 11:54

There was a bit of a continuity error in episode 2 as well - driving through the woods with trees on both sides, then the motorbikes are driving side by side and it’s open fields on one side, and then they’re instantly back to trees on both sides.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/11/2023 12:57

I never question where it is filmed /location

Doesn't make a diff to the plot

OP posts:
MoChridhe · 29/11/2023 14:29

The locations don't bother me at all. I treat every TV show as a work of fiction unless it is clearly a documentary or reality show. I love the street they used and it works for the peeping Tom perv plot. One may as well be critical of the actors cast because in reality there aren't any good looking couples living across the road from each other and wanting to bang.

MaliciaKeys · 29/11/2023 16:39

I'm glad the location anomaly has been explained. Hugh Dennis is great as the voyeuristic pervy neighbour. Very watchable so far.

Where was that beach though?

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/11/2023 17:03

Such a lovely deserted beach. I want to go there

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 29/11/2023 20:04

The beach did look lovely !
Why did she kill the Kai fish ? Was that deliberate?
The sister is odd
Hugh Dennis character is so dodgy !!
It's filmed in Belguim and the Uk apparently ( according to IMDB )

MoChridhe · 29/11/2023 20:09

Very nice beach and they had a good time. So much PDA between Danny and Becks.
