THIS IS A TV PACED THREAD

New drama. On Mon and Tue for 3 weeks

the six part series is an addictive, emotional roller coaster and looks at how we never know what goes on behind closed doors.

When Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) and Pete (Alfred Enoch) move into an upscale neighbourhood, they find themselves in a world of curtain twitching and status anxiety.

But soon find friendship in the shape of the couple next door, alpha traffic cop Danny (Sam Heughan) and his wife, glamorous yoga instructor Becka (Jessica De Gouw).

As time goes on, these two couples get increasingly close to each other and one fateful night, become sexually entangled in a way that will change their lives forever…

Starring Sam Heughan (Outlander, Suspect), Eleanor Tomlinson (The Outlaws, Poldark), Jessica De Gouw (Pennyworth, Our Man from Jersey) and Alfred Enoch (Tigers, How To Get Away with Murder), the first looks have been released for The Couple Next Door which is coming this Autumn to stream and watch live on Channel 4.

Produced by Eagle Eye Drama (Suspect, Professor T, Before We Die), The Couple Next Door is a deliciously dark, psychological drama, exploring the claustrophobia of suburbia and the fallout of chasing your deepest desires. Directed by Dries Vos (Suspect, Professor T) and written by David Allison (Bedlam, Marcella)

We played a game of which helpline would be available after the programme finished.

infertility
coping with infidelity
miscarriages
living with a pervert
the deaf society
carers of stroke victims
surviving being raised by religious nutters
living with a disability
surviving wife swapping traumas

There’s probably more. 😂

MoChridhe · 15/12/2023 05:30

If ever there was a bad decision to be made, Danny made it ha ha.
He didn't confess the criminal hustle drama that will probably cost him his job. Becka should divorce his ass.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2023 05:44

Who shot pete in the end ?
I missed an episode, wasn't paying attention and just pleased that creepy guy was left on his own.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2023 08:18

Evie did @the80sweregreat

Her smirk and why she was led off in police car

Plus recap link agreed with me

I actually think that was the worst bit of the programme.
How stupidly unclear they made it who did it

Sholkedabemus · 15/12/2023 09:03

Victims of gun crime
Having a baby in prison

Brilliant 👏🏻

Papergirl1968 · 15/12/2023 11:09

I thought Pete shot himself when Evie said she didn’t love him. Then when he nearly died she realised she did love him after all.
And I thought her smirk was to Danny, saying I’ll always have your baby even if I don’t have you? There will always be a connection between us?
Good point, where was dad when Pete was waving the gun about.
I think we all need a helpline after that, to help us recover from watching such drivel.

purpleme12 · 15/12/2023 11:47

This is what I mean, they made it far far too unclear who shot Pete

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2023 12:34

Recap says evie did and she's the one going off in police car

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 15/12/2023 12:41

I'm not disputing that.

But it was far far too unclear

LadyEloise1 · 15/12/2023 13:39

I also thought Pete shot himself when Evie said she didn't love him @purpleme12.
Very unclear.

butterpuffed · 15/12/2023 13:42

Yes it wasn't clear at all as Pete was facing Evie and holding the gun. How could she have wrestled it from him, turned it around and shot him in an instant. Bad editing .

Becca didn't know about Danny's job on the side . He'll be flung out of the police and thrown in jail .

purpleme12 · 15/12/2023 13:42

Yes exactly.

purpleme12 · 15/12/2023 13:43

Think they made a boo boo there

butterpuffed · 15/12/2023 13:46

Too right !

LadyEloise1 · 15/12/2023 15:01

That poor son of Becca and Danny being told basically to go off to his friend while his Mum and Dad tear off to rescue his father's lover and mother of another sibling.
Mind you they took their time, stopping off in a field, as you do, to discuss their marital problems.

Glad creepy neighbour got his come uppance.

purpleme12 · 15/12/2023 15:04

They were a bit lax about supervising their son weren't they 🤣

daffodilandtulip · 15/12/2023 17:09

I think it was meant to be ambiguous. Second series and all that.

Took me ages to click that the hut was the scene from the first episode 😂

And yes I thought that was a bit crap for Becca's son. At least drop him off safely!

purpleme12 · 15/12/2023 17:18

Mmm I'm not convinced it was meant to be ambiguous!

MoChridhe · 15/12/2023 17:54

I copied this from another site :

The Dutch version had 4 seasons, they all had 10 episodes. The end of the Dutch version of season 1 already differs from the English version. In the Dutch version Becka is shot by Pete and doesn't survive. The others do survive but Danny (in the Dutch version called Steef) is in prison and Pete has been admitted to a psychiatric observation clinic. In every other seasons there are new neighbours though Evie and Pete are in all seasons. Since the ending in season 1 already is different, I don't think the story can be compared from there.

Once I saw their family country cottage I worked out it wohid happen there

But once dad got the other man I thought maybe they were running from him

Hope there is a second series

I've had my virtual fingers in my virtual ears and gone la la la. In other words not read any of the thread and have saved this up.

Now, big question, shall I watch? Is it worth it do you think? Out of 10, how many stars?

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/12/2023 17:30

Def watch @martinisforeveryone it was good

Thank you. I'll take your advice. Not quite sure when, but I'll catch up with the thread afterwards.
