BOAT STORY. SUN 9pm bbc 1 - TV PACE NO SPOILERS

This looks really good - it will be on iPlayer so no bingeing /spoilers please as this is tv paced !!

If you're tired of the same-old detective dramas, Boat Story might prove to be a refreshing breath of sea air.

In a sense, Boat Story feels like a natural escalation, cranking up the chaos on every front as two ordinary people – Samuel (Paterson Joseph) and Janet (Daisy Haggard)
– discover a shipment of cocaine washed up on their sleepy coastal town.

As the only witnesses, they decide to scarper with the illegal substance in the hope that selling it on could change their lives forever, but the authorities are on their trail – as well as a bloodthirsty crime boss.

Boat Story follows the disastrous events that unfold after Samuel and Janet steal an enormous stash of cocaine from a menacing crime boss after it washes up in their sleepy seaside town.

They hope to quickly sell on the supply for a huge sum of money, but quickly find its not so easy to set foot in the murky world of organised crime and escape unscathed.

With an unconventional narrative structure and regular sprinklings of dark humour, Boat Story looks to be one of the more unusual offerings on the BBC's scripted drama line-up this year.

The cast of Boat Story is led by Daisy Haggard (Back to Life (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/back-to-life-season-3-release-date/)) and Paterson Joseph (Peep Show), who play the hapless individuals suddenly thrown into a potentially deadly criminal conspiracy.

Atop their list of worries is a crime boss called The Tailor, played chillingly by Baptiste (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/baptiste-cast-characters/)
's Tchéky Karyo, who is rather keen to get his highly valuable produce back.

Craig Fairbrass (One Piece (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/fantasy/anime/one-piece-season-2-netflix/)) co-stars as his brutal enforcer, Guy, while Joanna Scanlan (The Larkins (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-larkins-season-3-release/)) plays a local woman named Pat, who finds herself drawn into the rapidly spiralling events.

Rounding out the cast of Boat Story is Phil Daniels (Inside No. 9 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/inside-no-9-season-9-release-date/)
), Adam Gillen (Benidorm), Michele Austin (
This is Going to Hurt (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/this-going-hurt-season-2-release-date/)
), Jonas Armstrong (Hollington Drive), Ethan Lawrence (
After Life (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/after-life-season-4-exclusive-newsupdate/)
), plus screen newcomers Oliver Sheridan and Cherie Gordon.

BBC One's This Is Going to Hurt is based on the memoir of the same name by ex-doctor Adam Kay, but will there be a second season and who could star in it?

Glad we stuck with this (although it was touch and go after episode 1!). Still no idea how it's going to end! 🤣

dapsnotplimsolls · 04/12/2023 22:39

That all went very odd! Do we know if the play/musical ending was the same as the real ending?

No, because I think the play ending suggested Samuel had been in on it all from the beginning which wasn't true. Yes all very odd but I enjoyed it, felt it wrapped things up a bit too nicely at the end though

martinisforeveryone · 05/12/2023 11:37

IIRC the play ending was a bit awry and Craig wanted more help to refine the story, but it wasn't forthcoming.

I watched it all, but it's not something I'd watch with the benefit of hindsight or recommend, even though I enjoyed bits of it.

Disaster last night. We were watching the Boat Story, last episode. There was less than 5 minutes to go when we had a power cut. We are not in the UK so can not watch on iplayer.
Would anyone like to repeat what happened in those last 3 to 5 minutes

Where did it cut off? On the boat?

MadeOfAllWork · 05/12/2023 22:58

How did they off the boat? How long did the cab driver wait?

Gfplux · 06/12/2023 07:54

Thanks everyone, thanks also to the Radio Times

butterpuffed · 06/12/2023 08:53

I did stick with this , enjoyed the last episode although I don't think it lived up to the first ones .

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/12/2023 09:22

So from what I gather. She got all the money. He got nothing but if she hasn't of swapped the tuba he would have gone down as would have had a boot full of cash

But as he didn't they had nothing on him

Hence he wrote the story of what if

The cell mate got the rights of the story hence the play

But the ending was diff due to not being the same

But omfg. The tailor wanted to kill and eat her like the film he was watching

A bit extreme

I thought it he loved her

But actually wanted to be a cannibal 🙀

Poor pats son but he got an award. Shame was dead

I didn't realise there was a post credits scene until I read the recap. Not that it made any difference to the story!

My thought was "when did the Tailor do the shopping for the candlelit dinner?" 😁

CellophaneFlower · 06/12/2023 10:23

She gave his cut to his wife, as knew he'd gamble it away otherwise!

martinisforeveryone · 06/12/2023 11:06

Yeah she left two million on the wife’s doorstep for her and the daughter.

I think Craig who wrote the play had been a client of Samuel’s before he was struck off, hence going to him for dodgy contacts in the beginning after they found the drugs. His price was the rights to the story.

The Tailor did love Pat. He loved her so much he wanted her to become a part of him.. You can be loved too much 🥴

cheezncrackers · 06/12/2023 21:55

Can anyone answer a few questions about the last episode?

What the hell was that last scene after the credits? It made no sense to me. Was that Janet's ex all tied up and bloody? Who was the big bloke with him?

Apparently the big guy was in The Tourist and series 2 of that is coming up.

dapsnotplimsolls · 06/12/2023 22:03

It wasn't Janet's ex.

DejaVoodoo · 06/12/2023 23:25

DH and I enjoyed it... I just didn't take it too seriously so the violence didn't bother me... except for poor Ben 😪

Found it quite fun and entertaining, but not sure what to make of the post credits scene.

Tcheky Karyo is so gorgeous!

The big bloke, Elias, was the one telling the story all along. Did it really happen? Who knows! Craig also kept referring to the ending of the story. They appeared to make the ending the beginning of another that left more questions - the rest of the story was tied up nicely, then they threw that part in to leave it a little less neat. I loved it!

cheezncrackers · 07/12/2023 07:34

Thanks @CellophaneFlower

I'm glad it was meant to be confusing!

Samcro · 07/12/2023 08:06

i enjoyed it. was a bit confusing. like why did the tailor pretend to lose his keys ??
edit in case what i put was a spoiler
