This looks really good - it will be on iPlayer so no bingeing /spoilers please as this is tv paced !!

If you're tired of the same-old detective dramas, Boat Story might prove to be a refreshing breath of sea air.

In a sense, Boat Story feels like a natural escalation, cranking up the chaos on every front as two ordinary people – Samuel (Paterson Joseph) and Janet (Daisy Haggard)
– discover a shipment of cocaine washed up on their sleepy coastal town.

As the only witnesses, they decide to scarper with the illegal substance in the hope that selling it on could change their lives forever, but the authorities are on their trail – as well as a bloodthirsty crime boss.

Boat Story follows the disastrous events that unfold after Samuel and Janet steal an enormous stash of cocaine from a menacing crime boss after it washes up in their sleepy seaside town.

They hope to quickly sell on the supply for a huge sum of money, but quickly find its not so easy to set foot in the murky world of organised crime and escape unscathed.

With an unconventional narrative structure and regular sprinklings of dark humour, Boat Story looks to be one of the more unusual offerings on the BBC's scripted drama line-up this year.

The cast of Boat Story is led by Daisy Haggard (Back to Life (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/back-to-life-season-3-release-date/)) and Paterson Joseph (Peep Show), who play the hapless individuals suddenly thrown into a potentially deadly criminal conspiracy.

Atop their list of worries is a crime boss called The Tailor, played chillingly by Baptiste (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/baptiste-cast-characters/)
's Tchéky Karyo, who is rather keen to get his highly valuable produce back.

Craig Fairbrass (One Piece (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/fantasy/anime/one-piece-season-2-netflix/)) co-stars as his brutal enforcer, Guy, while Joanna Scanlan (The Larkins (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-larkins-season-3-release/)) plays a local woman named Pat, who finds herself drawn into the rapidly spiralling events.

Rounding out the cast of Boat Story is Phil Daniels (Inside No. 9 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/inside-no-9-season-9-release-date/)
), Adam Gillen (Benidorm), Michele Austin (
This is Going to Hurt (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/this-going-hurt-season-2-release-date/)
), Jonas Armstrong (Hollington Drive), Ethan Lawrence (
After Life (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/after-life-season-4-exclusive-newsupdate/)
), plus screen newcomers Oliver Sheridan and Cherie Gordon.

What's it about ?

It was a film then a tv series - 4 series so far and the 5th about to start. The first 2 series were amazing, the third was awful!

dapsnotplimsolls · 20/11/2023 22:20

Set in Minnesota in different time periods - quirky, ultra-violent, black humour.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/11/2023 22:45

And assuming lots of blood murder drugs swearing

Will go and see if can find on sky

Where is it usually watched

Is it just me enjoying it then? I am a fan of Fargo and Tarantino films so can take some on-screen violence when there's a good storyline and humour there too.
I am finding this pretty funny and there's some good characters. Interested to see where the story is going to go...

I had a look around after watching this last night - I think all the series are on Amazon Prime.

curlyrebel · 20/11/2023 22:55

@Blondeshavemorefun the series used to be on channel 4 but is no longer on 4od. If you have a prime subscription you can watch the film and series there.

I enjoyed tonight's episode - I REALLY like the musical bits, 'insomnia' rhyming with 'orphan from Bosnia' 😃

purpleme12 · 20/11/2023 23:02

I was unsure of this. Watched the first 15 mins or so then decided against it. After reading the comments I know I made the right decision 🤣

I'm Loving it as well @curlyrebel

Yes a bit blood thirsty but that's fine

I also loved gangs of London and many thought that was very gorey

I have prime so will have a look and download. Thanks

Same level of shocks gore wise or not so bad? <without spoilers just a warning lol>.

Also quite gory

Clawdy · 21/11/2023 08:01

Stopping after last night's. There's a limit to how much blood I want to see!

Janiie · 21/11/2023 08:20

I liked Pat and The Tailor's banana bread scene. The snow poem when he was looking at the sword amd you thought she was about to meet a gruesome end.

The drug dealing scene also quite funny when she rescued him by being an East European gangster.

I do like the bits of humour, in the warehouse when he was being chased and moaned that he said he'd count to 3 and didn't.

I know the blood and shocks are a bit much and I hope it doest escalate further I can just about cope with it for now.

First two series are the best 3 and 4 not great. Ewen McGregor was in one, think it was series 3. If you can watch the film first it was brilliant. They are all set in Minnesota but different characters time periods and stories in each series.

Not just you, I am enjoy it too. Looking forward to seeing where it goes

Boopear · 21/11/2023 08:30

I’m abs fine with the gore but LOATHE the singing 😂. What on earth! Anyone seen the rest of the series? Is there more singing…?

BruceAndNosh · 21/11/2023 08:35

I watched first episode and like the characters and quirky nature. But not great with gore. There were three scenes where I literally hid behind a cushion asking DH to tell me when it was over.
However he didn't get into it (too quirky) so I'm going to have to brave the rest of it with just me and my cushion

diddl · 21/11/2023 08:52

I loved Fargo (1&2) but can't get into this at all.

LadyEloise1 · 21/11/2023 09:17

I watched about 20 minutes of the first episode and gave up.
Not my thing.

crumblingschools · 21/11/2023 09:26

For those of you who are loving the gore and violence how do you feel when you watch the news straight afterwards and there are people suffering the exact same violence in real life

The same way if I watched, say The Godfather, Peaky Blinders or Pulp Fiction then watched the News. I can separate fact from fiction.

I agree some scenes are ott but it isn't done in a gratuitous way. For example when he was chucking body parts into the fire there was a black comedic element to it.

It won't be for everyone but this is way less shocking than something like The Fall which was hugely popular and featured horrific scenes.

placemats · 21/11/2023 09:44

Checking in to say that I am watching this and intrigued to know the ending. I appreciate that not everyone will wish to witness the gore and blood, but I find overall the storyline, acting and the humour compelling. I'll be continuing to watch it. The 'musical' was a hoot!

Because we are all psychopaths 🙄
Not sure why you are asking this question it is a fictional tv series that is quite frankly bonkers, thankfully some of us are able to separate fiction from reality and adjust accordingly. There has always been violence in tv shows and films and has always been horrific events happening in the real world

Sholkedabemus · 21/11/2023 09:51

I have to say that this is quite the strangest show I have ever watched.
