This looks really good - it will be on iPlayer so no bingeing /spoilers please as this is tv paced !!

If you're tired of the same-old detective dramas, Boat Story might prove to be a refreshing breath of sea air.

In a sense, Boat Story feels like a natural escalation, cranking up the chaos on every front as two ordinary people – Samuel (Paterson Joseph) and Janet (Daisy Haggard)
– discover a shipment of cocaine washed up on their sleepy coastal town.

As the only witnesses, they decide to scarper with the illegal substance in the hope that selling it on could change their lives forever, but the authorities are on their trail – as well as a bloodthirsty crime boss.

Boat Story follows the disastrous events that unfold after Samuel and Janet steal an enormous stash of cocaine from a menacing crime boss after it washes up in their sleepy seaside town.

They hope to quickly sell on the supply for a huge sum of money, but quickly find its not so easy to set foot in the murky world of organised crime and escape unscathed.

With an unconventional narrative structure and regular sprinklings of dark humour, Boat Story looks to be one of the more unusual offerings on the BBC's scripted drama line-up this year.

The cast of Boat Story is led by Daisy Haggard (Back to Life (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/back-to-life-season-3-release-date/)) and Paterson Joseph (Peep Show), who play the hapless individuals suddenly thrown into a potentially deadly criminal conspiracy.

Atop their list of worries is a crime boss called The Tailor, played chillingly by Baptiste (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/baptiste-cast-characters/)
's Tchéky Karyo, who is rather keen to get his highly valuable produce back.

Craig Fairbrass (One Piece (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/fantasy/anime/one-piece-season-2-netflix/)) co-stars as his brutal enforcer, Guy, while Joanna Scanlan (The Larkins (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/the-larkins-season-3-release/)) plays a local woman named Pat, who finds herself drawn into the rapidly spiralling events.

Rounding out the cast of Boat Story is Phil Daniels (Inside No. 9 (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/inside-no-9-season-9-release-date/)
), Adam Gillen (Benidorm), Michele Austin (
This is Going to Hurt (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/this-going-hurt-season-2-release-date/)
), Jonas Armstrong (Hollington Drive), Ethan Lawrence (
After Life (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/after-life-season-4-exclusive-newsupdate/)
), plus screen newcomers Oliver Sheridan and Cherie Gordon.

BBC One's This Is Going to Hurt is based on the memoir of the same name by ex-doctor Adam Kay, but will there be a second season and who could star in it?

Watching. Why is it giving me the rage?

I've just tried the first one & can't get into it at all.

Does Daisy Haggard always sound like that?

Tigresswoods · 19/11/2023 21:20

No she doesn't! It's weird. I really wanted to like this but for some reason it's not working for me.

EveryKneeShallBow · 19/11/2023 21:37

Bit bloody for me.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/11/2023 21:48

I had to hide my eyes for a bit

ThePoshUns · 19/11/2023 21:53

Too gruesome for me. I wanted to like it but gave up after about 15 minutes

Pushkinini · 19/11/2023 21:57

Crikey that scene in the police station was really gruesome. Not sure I'll stick it to the end if it carries on like that. I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to violence and gore.

AnyFucker · 19/11/2023 21:57

There is a lot of swearing. And it’s quirky, not sure if it is in a good way.

TheCatsBlanket · 19/11/2023 22:00

I’m not averse to a bit of swearing, but too much of it for me so far. Will try to watch to the end of the episode to see if it hooks me in, not sure it’s grabbing me though.

Dulra · 19/11/2023 22:03

Well I loved it, yes gruesome and weird but I like these dark quirky dramas. Reminds me of Fargo

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/11/2023 22:07

Well I enjoyed and think it will be good

It has sub plots like the step son and the cat /gambling

I was omfg when Baptiste the tailor cut out that blokes tongue

Obv he is a little pissed off lost 2 drug shipments

His hit man aka Craig a little trigger happy

Why the the coffee man go for the axe. If he kept still he would have be alive

And he got his secret love killed as well

Obv he couldn't keep her alive but she did help him find the evidence room by turning map around

I liked the two locks so both have to be there

Not really sure what they will do with millions pounds of drugs or how they will fine someone to sell it for them

The ex ambulance lady was very calm finding the 2 bodies

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/11/2023 22:12

Also reminded me of Fargo, enjoying it

Clawdy · 19/11/2023 22:13

All very weird. And gruesome. Good twist at the end though.

Iclyn · 19/11/2023 22:17

A good 8/10 for me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/11/2023 22:18

Twist @Clawdy ?

OP posts:
Norugratsatall · 19/11/2023 22:20

I can't work out if I like this or not, great dark humour but by god, it's gruesome!

Norugratsatall · 19/11/2023 22:20

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/11/2023 22:18

Twist @Clawdy ?

I think she's referring to the model head!

RedRiverShore4 · 19/11/2023 22:21

It was very Fargo like, I liked it, I shall have to watch them all early though because of I'm a celebrity.

Fordian · 19/11/2023 22:26

Okay. Once again. 20 minutes in and there's someone about to get his tongue cut out.

What the actual fuck is wrong with us?

Why is this entertaining?

I guess it may be because I've done a lot of time in front-line NHS thus have an understanding of the hideous violence of so much of life.

It's pretty disgusting.

Fordian · 19/11/2023 22:28

But I'm glad others have now alerted me to the fact it gets so much worse.

Violetparis · 19/11/2023 22:30

Gave up after 20 mins, found it annoying, sweary and gory for the sake of it.
