Isn't there an advantage to the Scottish system though? Something like if you agree a sale, you put down your deposit straight away and both parties fully committed.

That’s literally what I said in the post above?!

purpleme12 · 09/11/2023 23:50

Turmerictolly's post was one minute after yours. So I'm guessing she was typing hers still as you were typing yours

TerryWoganFanGirl · 14/11/2023 17:36

I somehow missed this thread. Enjoying this series, at least no revisits yet!

The best thing about the Scottish system is you get to see the survey in advance of viewing and it also has a home report value (which is basically the mortgage valuation). So if it needs work you factor that in or never go to see it/offer whereas my experience in England is that chains fall apart when that emerges and neither side is willing to budge. The downside, as others have mentioned, is if it goes to sealed bids you could overpay. Basically don’t offer more than you are prepared to and go with an odd number. Sellers are not obliged to take the highest offer so being chain free etc can still help.

Loved seeing all the homes on the Edinburgh episode especially the flats by the sea. Tenements are very typical in the centre.

The first episode I agree with others lovely family with small budget and that house was perfect for them. I think we saw more of the other lady due to them not seeing everything planned. And nice Phil managed to get her a bit of a deal on her dream house.

The Berkshire episode was less interesting I thought as the couple with the big budget were looking at estate type houses people had spent money on inside so all quite samey (they did buy the nicest though). As it was only filmed in May maybe the sellers thought a chain free asking price buyer was worth having? The young couple I think didn’t really have much of a clue so at least Kirsty gave them some parameters.

Roll on episode four!

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/11/2023 20:21

I've always said every seller should have a survey for their home

Means everyone only pays for one

And you know any issues with the house

Rather then pay for a survey costing £1k? Or it ir more now. I brought years ago

Then house showed so many issues so pulled out

Which meant lost the money via survey and had to pay out for another one for next house which is the house I brought in the end

£900k for shocking bungalow !

crumblingschools · 15/11/2023 20:32

That bathroom!

Meredusoleil · 15/11/2023 20:36

And in East London too! Not even the most desirable side of the city imho.

Meredusoleil · 15/11/2023 20:38

The couple with the £1m+ budget seem impossible to please. Probably why they are still renting a year after selling.

Why does Phil keep showing them bungalows?!?

Meredusoleil · 15/11/2023 20:38

Why does she want such a huge garden? It's not like their boys are still young ffs.

martinisforeveryone · 15/11/2023 20:41

I'd like to see what Natasha and Barry sold, because they're spending hand over fist on rent and can't seem to see anything that comes near their requirements.

Meredusoleil · 15/11/2023 20:43

I wonder if Sam models his moustache on Salvador Dali 😁

Meredusoleil · 15/11/2023 20:48

If this couple buy the last house, their boys need never move out with the 2 x 1 bed self contained annexes at the back!

martinisforeveryone · 15/11/2023 20:52

I wasn't clear, do they have any access from the back or the side, or do you have to go through the main house?

Turmerictolly · 15/11/2023 20:53

That house had so much potential and is perfectly liveable. The annexes are wow!perfect for when their boys are older.

Feel sorry for the younger couple, what a terrible market and shocking to see what nearly half a million buys. You couldn't give houses away in those areas years ago. East Ham is a dump really but I guess at least it's up and coming and they could add value. It's close to Stratford too and they get a whole house. Hope they're sensible and go for the house.

martinisforeveryone · 15/11/2023 20:54

Oh there's a garage, so whatever, you could make an access through it.

No! they've turned away from the house. Think that's silly in their position.

Floralnomad · 15/11/2023 20:56

Do they actually check your finances because the couple with the 1 million + budget never had any intention of buying anything .

43ontherocksporfavor · 15/11/2023 20:58

Half a million for East Ham!!! Unbelievable!

That's the feeling I was getting too. They really have lost out on that amazing property and think they will probably regret it in the long term. But if they're happy to throw their money away in rent, then so be it!

Turmerictolly · 15/11/2023 21:04

I reckon they're hoping the owner will drop to around their offer. It could happen, the market is slow at that price range I think.

Glad young couple went for a 3 bed house. - I think they'll look back and be glad they missed out on that overpriced flat. They can add a lot of value to that house over time. Their mortgage must be massive though.

Cherrypie32 · 15/11/2023 22:00

They showed the house in Emerson Green that they’d sold at the start. There seemed to be no reason to have sold it as what they were looking for was the exact same. I think they were arrogant enough to think they could just make more money from ‘flipping’ another property without any regard to the market.

They most definitely did come across as arrogant. I agree!

LadyBird1973 · 15/11/2023 23:16

The couple who's sold their dream house and we're looking for another massive property, we're really annoying. Tbh, they don't deserve to find one! That gorgeous house with the 2 mini homes in the garden was worth every penny of the asking price and they were too tight-fisted to pay it, despite it being exactly what they asked for and in their perfect street!

LadyEloise1 · 16/11/2023 00:10

I fully agree.

KingsleyBorder · 16/11/2023 00:28

”But explain WHY you need a massive garden” we were shouting at the TV!
