Did anyone else think that the immense million quid gorgeous period property was a teeny bit of a “fuck you” to ex husband Josh who has to “find a place to rent nearby”?

Absolutely loved the 6foot 7 tattooed train ticket inspector with the Mohawk turning out to be a big softy family man who loved a cosy living room. That must be a record, offering on the first house Kirstie takes them too so quickly that the agent is still outside with the keys! “Do your second viewing now!” Hilarious.

I. too. was pleased they found a house they wanted - small budget, local people,(would hate to live in Torquay myself though).
They were both working and no fancy ideas

The DFL (not sure if they were actually from London) family grated on me. She kept on about how she 'was doing this on her own' as if that was an excuse/justification. She had a million pounds to spend and a lucrative WFH job.
This type of family seem to always be featured on these sort of programs - I suppose it makes better 'telly' to show lovely homes.

daffodilandtulip · 26/10/2023 07:29

I like it when it's just a normal house with a normal budget. And what a lovely family.

But yes, £1m for the other family didn't get you much. I just spent the whole time wondering why I didn't have an app to save me time when I worked in mental health 😂

UglyModernWindows · 26/10/2023 07:39

Glen was 🔥 yes, lovely family! They were very realistic, feet on the ground and clearly knew what was achievable with their budget.

Did anyone notice their agent’s ridiculous skinny fit suit trousers?

@KingsleyBorder my DH said exactly that!

ssd · 26/10/2023 07:45

I missed most of this episode, only saw the end. I agree the first family were very down to earth and lovely. But the mum by herself, how on earth did she make her money?? The house she bought was an absolute dream.

Not “much”?! A detached period thatched 5(?) bedroom home with 2 fully furnished holiday cottages that bring in 35k a year, and a beautiful mature cottage style garden, all in move-in condition.

Come to my part of London to see what “not much for a million quid” looks like 😀.

She was from the Bath area, not Down From London @ruby1957 .

she was an ex social worker who had developed an app that “cut out paperwork for people working on the front line of mental health”.

Brumbies · 26/10/2023 07:59

May I 'tag' along? I love this programme and these two.

I did say I was not sure if they were DFL - just most of the 'millionaires' buying in Devon seem to be!

Me too they were a lovely couple.

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/10/2023 08:37

The other cheaper house was a bargain at £250k! By the sea with 3 bedrooms!!! Good to know that you can still get a bargain.

crumblingschools · 26/10/2023 08:44

I thought the single mum got quite a lot for her money with the house she eventually bought compared to the other ones she looked at.

I did wonder what her ex was going to do, as at the beginning of the programme she was all about co-parenting and then was moving miles away from him

I think they said that her parents and the ex were all going to move to Devon after she and the kids got settled. Maybe she’ll let Josh stay in one of the holiday cottages instead of a flat above the chip shop round the corner…

Thanks @KingsleyBorder

I know, I clarified because you said you were not sure!

I know, I clarified because you said you were not sure!

Also she did talk about borrowing to buy the house (she said the holiday let income would help pay the interest) so she wasn’t a millionaire as such, just someone with enough income to borrow the balance of a £940k house.

sadforthem · 26/10/2023 15:37

I thought it was extraordinary that the agent of the first house agreed to cancelling the other viewings when they offered the asking price £280,000.
It was guided i think between £280,000 - £285.00
He knew there were definitely other parties interested to view it.

Surely the vendors should have held out, unless all the other potential buyers were in a chain.

Turmerictolly · 25/10/2023 20:10

So did Amy make her money via the app I wonder? It's a big budget.

I'm guessing hubby as she said he supports them

Couple were lovely and glad they got their house

Not sure about the lady

Would love to know what the app was and how it helps mental Heath

Agree she said about co parenting and best for kids but she chose to move away to massive place while ex dh got a small place

That's what I thought too, wondered if it might go into a bidding war with people offering well over asking pride.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/10/2023 20:21

Tho as they had no chain that's a big incentive

But yes if I was the sellers I would have said £285 and off market

sunshineandshowers40 · 26/10/2023 20:32

I assumed that being a local family also helped.

HelpMebeok · 27/10/2023 13:34

Second episode is up. Another one where one couple has a big budget and one and has a smaller budget.

LadyBird1973 · 27/10/2023 16:01

I really didn't like Amy. Something about her gave me really 'off' vibes. And I thought the house she dismissed as not being beautiful was absolutely gorgeous. I think what annoyed me was that she is so lucky to be able to afford a £1 million house yet seemed so dismissive of something that most people should be over the moon to afford!
Also, not sure about ex husband relocating as well. There's a story there, I suspect

purpleme12 · 27/10/2023 16:17

What do you mean 🤣
