Just binged watched the whole 4 episodes . What a lovely flawed family, I really think they are completely made for each other. It was also amazing watching all the highs and lows of his football career, but god we should be ashamed of what the England supporters put him through when he slipped up in the world cup against Argentina, what he went through was horrific .

I don't like DB; his actions don't match his words - the doc showed him doing whatever the fuck he liked and it was Victoria that held them all together. Her needs didn't seem to enter his brain at all - being at a photoshoot instead of your wife's section? Hmm

I remember when the affair broke Victoria was getting a hammering by the press, because obviously poor David had to have an affair because his evil wife wasn't supporting him enough 🙄 IIRC even Elton John weighed in criticising VB. At the time Tony and Cherie Blair were getting some stick for not declaring whether Leo had had his (mmr?) vaccine. The press were being vicious about Cherie and TB had come out and defended her telling the press 'enough!'. David Beckham didn't say a word about the hammering his wife was getting, he let it happen even though she must've felt destroyed by his affair.

He reminds me a bit of Peter Andre - loves his family as long as they fit around him!

I did feel sorry for him for the whole ridiculousness around the kick though - football 'fans' are fucking embarrassing....grown men making nooses for a 23 year old? Shameful!

lemmein · 08/10/2023 12:47

I thought VB came across well though - I'd love her to get a damehood just to piss him off Grin

Sisterpita · 08/10/2023 14:41

@lemmein 😂

Andyrourkerip · 08/10/2023 14:54

It's clear she's had some sort of elocution lessons or just changed her way of speaking since she first started out.

'I remember when the affair broke Victoria was getting a hammering by the press, because obviously poor David had to have an affair because his evil wife wasn't supporting him enough 🙄 IIRC even Elton John weighed in criticising VB'

That's right. She got the blame for not following her husband around and supervising his behaviour like he's a child 🙄 and with friends like Elton......

looking4pup · 08/10/2023 18:33

I thought it was crap. Obviously it was a documentary about David and his life and career. I assumed it would have his family in it and more of their day to day lives.

soupweather · 08/10/2023 18:37

I’m don’t think it was ever advertised as at home with the Beckhams. I always saw it as a life documentary.

CaveMum · 08/10/2023 18:46

If you want to watch a fascinating biography short series on Netflix, I’d recommend Schwarzenegger over Beckham.

No thanks. I'm a football fan and DB's football journey was what interested me.

This is on my list, it sounds great

HoobleDooble · 08/10/2023 19:10

I was working in a supermarket when he got sent off during the 1998 World Cup and I had grown adults refusing to use the WC themed carrier bags on my till because they had the number 7 on them, holding everyone up with their bottom lip out until my supervisor brought out a box with a different number on. 🙄

snickersandmarsandbounty · 08/10/2023 21:51

I have a new found respect for VB

From what I've heard from people who have had children at the same school, Rebecca Loos (alledgedly) was the tip of the iceberg.
And his bullshit 'queuing for the queen salt of the earth' shtick wasn't fooling me.

I remember Rebecca Loos on Big Brother (I think!) saying people would be shocked if they knew what the marriage was really like and it was all for convenience/ the brand.

I loved the documentary and considering I know nothing about football it shows how well it was made as I enjoyed the footie bits the best. Can someone tell me why David was transferred from MU? I either missed that bit or didn't understand it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/10/2023 00:52

As a side note - her face, which looks AMAZING in still photos, looked so much more obviously worked on in the documentary. It reminded me that all of these fillers and Botox etc really do work best for photos

He'd had his teeth done, lips and Botox too.

DontBeAPrickDarren · 09/10/2023 01:03

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor reading between the lines Sir Alex didn’t like the media circus that came along with Brand Beckham and his face no longer fit so they shipped him out. The only thing he eventually got a say in was moving to Real over Barca

Thank you, that's what I sort of figured but thought I'd missed something.

DontBeAPrickDarren · 09/10/2023 01:12

We binge watched it all tonight. I find them both likeable tbh, whatever goes on in their relationship is between them and the lawyers overseeing the NDAs, assuming it doesn’t affect their family life. Kids seem relatively well-rounded considering the jetsetting and mega wealth. From the glimpses of the UK house I loved the decor, would have liked to see a bit more. Was a bit surprised how much he controlled the relationship in terms of where they lived and worked, not sure why I’d previously thought some of it had been guided by her. Thought they could have made at least some mention of her own post-Spice career though.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/10/2023 01:24

I think the reason they didn't sue Loos was because she said she had proof she had slept with him which was something about his genitals that only someone who had slept with him would've known. She said she'd say that in court if necessary. Clearly the affair happened otherwise they'd have sued. I think he was extremely lucky he didn't lose his family after that.

I think they were obviously very much in love at the beginning but not quite so sure now,it's odd she isn't as outspoken now as she used to be ,it's usually the other way round as you age and I agree with the pp about her ED and his wardrobe was like something out of that Julia Roberts film with the controlling husband,I found that beyond being neat. Both things show a need for control.

The house though 💜

HelloItsMeHowAreYou · 09/10/2023 06:12

The only reason they didn't sue her was because she was telling the truth. You can't sue people for not lying 😁

Otherwise her feet wouldn't have touched the ground she'd have been in court so fast.

I respect vb for forgiving him, I couldn't (didn't with my ex) but their trying to be 'clever' with words about the whole affair and "not say whilst saying" starts to pall after a while.

Yes.

I hadn't seen it advertised or read anything about it before watching.

GodDammitCecil · 09/10/2023 08:00

Brooklyn’s wife’s bizarre post on Instagram congratulating David on the documentary…. 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳

vjg13 · 09/10/2023 08:01

I think the context that it was produced by Beckham's own production company is important when considering the content.

boysmuminherts · 09/10/2023 08:07

I enjoyed it. But am surprised at people saying it's about the Beckhams and the family and how much they love them. I watched a programme about David and his football career. It seems like football is #1 for him. At the end he says he loves football more than anyone else in the world. But I come at it from a completely viewpoint as have never followed brand Beckham.

snickersandmarsandbounty · 09/10/2023 08:40

I think VB put up and shut up about a lot, she doesn’t strike me as v happy and the ED could partly perhaps be explained by having some control.
I think she comes across as a very nice person though and he may have gone about his love for his family but imo was all lip service and carefully scripted PR. She was 💯 responsible for keeping the family together and having to relocate without any consultation. Speaks volumes

Totally agree.
