Just binged watched the whole 4 episodes . What a lovely flawed family, I really think they are completely made for each other. It was also amazing watching all the highs and lows of his football career, but god we should be ashamed of what the England supporters put him through when he slipped up in the world cup against Argentina, what he went through was horrific .

I’ve just watched it. I really like it. I think they basically admitted the affair without actually admitting it.
I loved them as a couple in the 90s and throughout. I felt for her when she had got the family settled, only to uproot them again. I think they seem very happy, flawed and loving.
I also cried watching him play his last game.
I would only recognise Brooklyn. I don’t agree they’ve pushed their kids into the spotlight that much. Some is natural as they have had such press following them all their lives.
A good watch. He is very easy on the eye.

I'm watching episode 1 now.

I've never thought VB seemed vacuous at all; I think a lot of that stereotyping came about because she's very fashion conscious, unapologetically loaded ( I mean, what were they supposed to do with the millions) and pretty much kept her mouth shut because she knows she could never do right for doing wrong.

She seems pretty smart to me; pretty introverted, has built and maintained her family and businesses for decades while looking awesome. What's vacuous about that? That's a bullshit misogynist take.

Misogynistic to opine that another woman appears vacuous? Don’t be daft 🙄 such a ridiculous comment.

Wendysfriend · 05/10/2023 10:38

Just finished this. God it was so, so good. I wasn't going to watch as I'm not a football fan but I actually found myself praying for goals, even though they were old matches and the score well known 😂☺️

I hadn't realised half of what they went through. One thing is for sure they are both extremely strong people, David especially as what he went through with the abuse, bullying, death threats etc it is crazy how football scores are the deciding factor on how you will be treated by your Country, fans etc.

I was very impressed by how the players on the different teams he played for were there for each other and supported him. Even though the relationship with Ferguson ended the way it did, you could see the fondness and respect he still has for David in the interview. Ferguson was there for David and helped him through the worst treatment he received from the incident with Simmone and it was so lovely hearing the fans after months and months of abuse sing "there's only one Beckham".

DH is a MU fan, he was loving seeing all the players from years ago. He actually enjoyed it too and he wouldn't normally be in to interviews like this.

I have such admiration for David and Victoria having watched that. They both suffered terribly, they had many good years but how they both survived the abuse I'll never know. They seem to be very happy together, they have great banter with each other, they still look at each other with love in their eyes. Their children are lovely too, there wasn't much shown on them, they are a credit .

Plus David is HOT 🥰🥰😍😍 much hotter now.

Did anyone feel the same but have their mind changed by the documentary?

I changed my opinion on both of them.🙂

You have to hand it to them, the odds were stacked against them but they got through it.

Thanks. I will watch later this evening.

Lovelyautumncolours · 05/10/2023 10:41

I like Gary Neville in this and David's Mum. Not sure why Anna Wintour has a token guest slot (I'm only up to episode 3)- it adds nothing IMO but maybe that's to appeal to a wider non-footie audience?

I also liked having a nosey at the Cotswold property.

I'm not a particular fan of VB, DB went up in my estimation when he queued to see the Queen but I don't like how they pimped out their kids to SM (which the Ramsays and Olivers have not).

ssd · 05/10/2023 10:46

I don't understand how they have the kids on sm non stop when they themselves were really affected by so much intrusive attention??

BadBadDecisions · 05/10/2023 10:47

Ok @MamaToABeautifulBoy

It seems to me that she's the backbone of her family, and is pretty much in the driving seat.

I don't know if DB is as smart as she is, but nobody calls him vacuous.

It's quite a female insult I think.

MissAmbrosia · 05/10/2023 11:01

I'm going to start this today. I met David Beckham once - he seemed lovely.

MissAmbrosia · 05/10/2023 11:02

DH is a life long MU supporter. Long remember the excitement of 1999 and seeing the 3 trophies at Old Trafford.

hlc123 · 05/10/2023 11:03

I loved them in the early days and bought loads of magazines to read about them. I then changed my opinion and thought they got too fame hungry but really enjoyed watching parts 1 and 2 of the documentary. I thought they came across very well and thought that his team mates were so supportive of him was great. Looking forward to watching the rest.

hevs03 · 05/10/2023 11:05

The Beckhams are in my opinion all about the brand, I do believe they once loved each other but now have an arrangement in place, potentially an open marriage, he has always been known to cheat and I'm pretty sure there a few NDA's floating about, there are way too many rumours for some of them not to be true about it. Why did they not sue Rebecca Loos and the newspapers if the affair did not happen.
They pimp out their children who (except Harper) have achieved absolutely nothing in life so far. I think David can be particularly cruel to Victoria, I get the impression that whilst she was the more powerful one when they first got together, he then became the world famous footballer and has relished being the one in control, after all it is he who bankrolls her failed fashion empire (her company has always been in debt and never made a profit), I do think she has an eating disorder (just my opinion) he did admit she only ever eats fish and steamed veg every day, she even had a water melon birthday cake. She never seems particularly happy but then who knows what goes on behind closed doors. I wish her well and if the rumours of his cheating are true I hope she leaves him, ditches the stupid diet and finds happiness. (and their children get jobs !) 😀

Nitgel · 05/10/2023 11:08

i enjoyed this, he was just such a normal kid with a remarkable talent. I loved the way he always asks Victoria about his hair :D they both seem to be tough due to the relentless awful British press which still hounds them and their family.

I did make me question how ethical it is to take a kid at such a young age and groom them for the premier league.

I thought he seemed quite introverted unless playing and really felt for him. I hope the press (Daily Mail) quit hounding them with ridiculous articles.

Blackbyrd · 05/10/2023 11:27

@hevs03 has got it spot on. Watched this last last night hoping for more of a general social commentary but it was actually extremely boring and pandered to Beckham's giant ego. His parents came across really badly, grasping and spiteful. Fast forwarded most of the last three massively overlong episodes. Waste of time, and massive lol at "the awful British press", think you'll find it's paid promotional content for the Daily Mail

BadBadDecisions · 05/10/2023 11:32

I've stopped watching halfway through episode two 😆

BlondeFool · 05/10/2023 11:45

TeamSleep · 05/10/2023 07:52

Oh and I couldn’t help but laugh at the part where the footballer he kicked in that huge World Cup drama in 1998 said it didn’t even hurt and he was hamming it up and that he didn’t think David should have got a red card. Bit late for that!!

Just watched that bit. Ridiculous David was vilified. Hoodle sold him down the river. I wonder if they talk now?

The press quit hounding them lol

They shove their family onto sm as often as they can

IcedPurple · 05/10/2023 12:29

It would have been crazy to throw away everything they’ve got for an attention seeking predatory woman and a huge mistake.

I don't think this "attention seeking predatory woman" forced a married man to sleep with her, did she?

And I think you're being very naive if you think this was the only time Beckham played away.

Summerslimtime · 05/10/2023 12:34

Completely my era. Loved it!! Loved the 90s. Great documentary.

Fulshaw · 05/10/2023 12:37

Do you know them personally then?

MrsDanversChickenSandwich · 05/10/2023 12:39

Poor little David Beckham. Defenceless against predatory women Grin

What a silly question.

Of course I don't know them personally. Neither (I presume) does anyone else on this board, including the person whose post I responded to.

Ok. So on what basis are you making the claim that he had multiple affairs?

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 05/10/2023 12:46

Ok. So on what basis are you making the claim that he had multiple affairs?

Erm, the media reports at the time? The women (it wasn't just RL) that came forward to say they had slept with him? The fact he didn't sue any of them and didn't deny it in this documentary? Papers report shite yes, but I agree with PP, you'd be naive to think it was just Rebecca Loos.

IcedPurple · 05/10/2023 12:48

Fulshaw · 05/10/2023 12:43

Because if a man is willing to be beguiled by one "attention seeking predatory woman" it's unlikely he'll be able to resist all of the many other "attention seeking predatory women" he will have encountered in his decades of being famous.

Obviously I could be wrong and he's been entirely faithful to Victoria with the exception of that one irresistible "attention seeking predatory woman". Personally I doubt it however.

I think that’s fair and probably true for a lot of men/famous men.

However there are a few exceptions and some people genuinely repent their mistake. In his case, it seemed to me from the documentary to be a symptom of his life at that particular moment - ditched by his beloved United, alone in a foreign country, wife busy elsewhere. It doesn’t excuse it but it does explain it.

So 50/50 I reckon on if you or I are right!
