Catherine was the right person to go and I thought her falling apart crying was really annoying. She's an adult and everyone else lost time finishing their stuff to help her.

Asmaa is a really, really good seamstress.

Think Gillie will go next and Maria soon.

The BBC loves people falling apart and crying. IF they are genuinely crying then I wish they'd be allowed to have their tears and for that bit to be edited out. It's all got a bit hackneyed. You can mash a pot of tea while the camera pans round the faces and keeps us in suspense and then we have the tears and group hug.

Anyone know how to pronounce Fauve?

I’m thinking F ow v ?

I'm afraid she's getting on my nerves already.

Yes. I’m of the same generation as her and I found her rather silly.

Hurrah! Thanks for the heads up. Did you all see the lovely programme Patrick Grant did about the tailors making all the uniforms for the Coronation? Should still be on iplayer.

I've just watched the coronation tailors programme. Amazing! Loved it. I'd never really given any thought to the fact that all those uniforms had to be made and that they were made by hand like that.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 25/05/2023 19:05

I rhyme Fauve with the politician Gove. I can't remember how they said it on the show.

Like the colour mauve I think.

Harness defo a one trick pony, Gillie all gush and no gusset

I did laugh when Esme took delight in saying gusset to Gillie when she was being very coy about describing the knickers she’d made using a French seam. It was pretty obvious that Esme at that stage wasn’t a fan.

That's how I would say it. I assume it's French.

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2023 21:04

Yes they said Fove.

Like wild...

LadyAddle · 25/05/2023 21:05

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g Thanks for recommending the Coronation tailors programme - fascinating!

NutellaEllaElla · 25/05/2023 21:24

Ok, I have just caught up and it was a great episode. Esme loves a gusset and Tony wears two pairs of glasses, one in front of the other, at the sewing machine. Mental. Love it.

Transformation challenge winner was a joke. He kept half a frickin shirt intact and added unfinished ribbon. wtf. Matthews made to measure had an air stewardess vibe, plus random unnecessary harnesses again. Is this related to a climbing hobby or is fetish-wear being brazenly normalised in public prime time family spaces? Weird.

NutellaEllaElla · 25/05/2023 21:27

I thought the cut out thing must be really hard as most were ill fitting.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/05/2023 21:59

I don't know about that but there were plenty of straps and harness contraptions about in the late 70s when Esme was running Swanky Modes. Probably not in prime time family spaces those were the preserve of Rolf Harris, Jimmy Savile et al. I don't think a few straps are going to do anyone any harm although I'd prefer a nice dress myself.

FriendsDrinkBook · 25/05/2023 22:11

As long as he doesn't wear that style for work , he works in a primary school I think. He did post on insta that he watched the episode with his year 6 class as they are on a residential right now , I did think that was slightly inappropriate considering the fact that his winning shirt was described as bondage gear by Patrick.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/05/2023 22:16

I thought Tony B was the teacher. Matthew does the harnesses. I could be wrong.

FriendsDrinkBook · 25/05/2023 22:19

Matthew is a ta I think.

Yes he is a dancer and a TA. I just checked.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2023 22:32

I don't have a problem with the harness details so far. They are more like punk styling than actual fetish wear aren't they?

PriamFarrl · 25/05/2023 23:17

I agree. The whole bondage wear style is punk really. But it’s going to get old if it’s all he does.

MouseMinge · 25/05/2023 23:53

I like punk bondage stuff as done by Vivienne Westwood back in the day but his shirt just looked like bits of badly cut fabric hanging onto a one-sided shirt. I was surprised it won because it didn't look particularly well executed but I'm guessing it must have looked better in the flesh.

I like shorts Tony. He seems to have a lot of talent and I liked the shorts he made even though as they said not enough of the fabric was from the pencil skirt or shirt. Top glasses.

negomi90 · 26/05/2023 00:32

Asmaa is going to be good. She's a surgeons, she's precise and used to pressure. But she's also a breast surgeon who makes lingerie for her patients who's have had mastectomies. She's going to be good a difficult fabrics (underwear fabric) and good and adjusting fit to fit people, especially with experience doing bras to fit one typical breast and one surgical/inserted/absent breast. Lots of good foundations for her.

CabernetSauvignon · 26/05/2023 06:50

Did anyone see Esme on House of Games? I found her quite irritating because she seemed to think anything to do with popular culture was beneath her, and she had to be jollied along into making a bit of an effort occasionally.
