Don't get too excited....I have nothing to add. But may be able to put you in e-mail contact with someone who can send you tranches of info.

Still we are raising the profile of Gene Hunt.

JackieNo · 07/02/2008 22:21

Perhaps they're setting up a 50s or 60s version with Sam, post-putting his car in the river.

Dh was very impressed when I named "I'm in love with a german film star" by The Passions in one chord

JackieNo · 07/02/2008 22:26

Now that was the one that both DH and I had trouble naming, scampadoodle. all the others - no problem (though DH did comment that 'Are Friends Electric' was technically 1970s (1979).

Pan · 07/02/2008 22:30

did the poncies amongst us notice the Delibes aria whilst she was trying to throw up?? Why was that in there??

moondog · 07/02/2008 22:31

OOh get you Pan!
I was just made up to hear a track from Roxy's Flesh and Blood (Same old scene I think) which is in my top 20 albums.

JackieNo · 07/02/2008 22:32

It was Same old scene. Wouldn't know about the Delibes .

So, Philip Glenister fans - will we be watching Jonathan Ross tomorrow night, to catch him?

OP posts:
paddingtonbear1 · 07/02/2008 22:34

dh had the last half of it on, I didn't see much but the music was fab!! Stranglers, Roxy music...

SueBaroo · 07/02/2008 22:34

I like the way they played with the format. She was a bit annoying, but then so was Sam at the beginning. Yes, they made it a bit panto, but it was a scene-setter, ramping up the mystery elements.

I was tickled pink by the carrying the girl in his arms bit - bet Matthew Graham wrote that with female viewers in mind, arf.

Still, I wouldn't say no to a bottle of cheap red and Gene Hunt carrying me into my monochrome and red flat and throwing me on the sofa

Pan · 07/02/2008 22:35

I THINK the aria was used as music for a famous advert on the tv at the time - for a bank/oil/airline/awful ties..

well I thought it was marvelous

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 07/02/2008 22:38

So did I with the exception of the female lead.

Gene Hunt..............swoon.

Pan · 07/02/2008 22:40

the Flower Duet from Lakme...>

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/02/2008 22:41

I liked it - ridiculous but funny and love, love, love Gene ! I don;t think that Tab in that tin ( the clear version) was still around in '81 - I used to drink it at school back in the seventies...

JackieNo · 07/02/2008 22:41

From the British Airways ad, then? But surely that was much later than the 80s?

OP posts:
SueBaroo · 07/02/2008 22:41

The female lead is a cypher, so that we have th pleasure of Mr Hunt again. I am going to listen to my hormones tonight and announce that I don't care if she is ker-rap, she's only there so that Gene Hunt can have a bit of chemistry, and I can imagine myself in her place.

'tis not complicated

JackieNo · 07/02/2008 22:42

Exactly, Sue - there's a bit of will they/won't they going on (or at least, when will they?)

moondog · 07/02/2008 22:43

Women want real blokes eh? I say lets have more of this sort and less fleece wearing people carrier driver types, buying their wives Tampax in Tesco.

Pan · 07/02/2008 22:43
