I'll be watching .

Hmm. Missed it last week, not sure what to make of tonight's episode. Good to see Gene, Chris and the other one but Keeley Hawes was bloody awful. The 'la la la you are all in my head' thing is so overdone.

Nice to hear a bit of Tenpole Tudor though.

pinkteddy · 14/02/2008 22:56

loved the bit where Alex dropped off her coat in the Blitz club cloak room and said 'thanks George!'

Pixel · 14/02/2008 23:40

It was Tenpole Tudor, I was right, hurrah! (I can never usually answer music questions on quizzes so am pleased with myself).
Well, sorry but I wasn't impressed tonight. The main problem is that I just don't care whether or not Alex gets 'home'. I just want to tell her to shut up!

Moomin · 14/02/2008 23:46

Re: last week's episode. It might have been the original puppeteers for Zippy and George but not the orig George - he was far too fluffy. I remarked to dh as we were watching (pathetic pedant that I am). Am still sulking about last week but dh has V+ the series so I might...I said might watch the 2nd one.

Am ovulating so might just watch to get a Gene Hunt fix. Have bought series 1 of LoM for dh but it's not his b'day til Monday so we can't watch it again just yet

Pan · 15/02/2008 00:29

also from last week's episode - I was indeed out-ponced by you coffecrazedmama - it WAS La Wally she tried to throw up to, NOT Lakme as I so erroneously stated it was.

punishment - to wear a jacket with rolled up sleeves for a week.......

SueBaroo · 15/02/2008 08:56

I just want Gene to kiss her to shut her up. And I'ma thinkin' that exactly what the writers intended.

beth13 · 15/02/2008 10:19

I couldn't watch it last week cos Alex was getting on my nerves soooo much. but I perservered last night and realised she is sposed to be bloody irritating and I thought it was ace ! Will be watching from now on !

PortAndLemon · 15/02/2008 11:52

I suppose that last time the viewers came in sympathising with Sam, and then encountered Gene and were gradually won over by him. This time the viewers will already be Gene fans so I am guessing that the intention was to make Alex unsympathetic so that she is the character who gradually grows on us. Not entirely convinced it's working, though...

DualCycloneCod · 15/02/2008 11:54

i thinkt he bra straps were wrong

amen

edam · 15/02/2008 11:56

What bra straps?

I was on Alex's mother's side, btw. All that childhood 'trauma' about not being picked up from school. Don't blame the mother, Alex is so irritating I'd have been tempted to leave her there for good!

Moomin · 15/02/2008 11:57

When PG was on Breakfast the other day he was really bigging KH up sooooo much - he either believes she is great or he's being supportive because of her bad reviews. In the Sunday Times AA Gill said that everytime Gene Hunt and she share a scene she gets completely overshadowed and swallowed up because of his screen presence (or summat like that).

But I'm willing to buy beth13's interpretation so I'll watch episode 2 and report back...

Sunshinemummy · 15/02/2008 12:07

I enjoyed last night's and I thought she was much better. I also love love love the clothes, makeup and music. And my crush on Gene is starting to reach obscene proportions.

PersephoneSnape · 15/02/2008 12:59

the bra straps were wrong. bra straps being visible = madonna - 1985-ish.

MrsTweedy · 15/02/2008 13:00

I agree the bra straps are wrong - I used to wear off the shoulder tops but with strapless bras as it was common to show your bra strap (until Madonna came along with 'Holiday' but that was much later, surely?)

foxinsocks · 15/02/2008 13:00

yes, I thought she was marginally better. I wondered how many people had gone off for their Valentine's shag with old Gene in their head.

MrsTweedy · 15/02/2008 13:01

Snap!

DualCycloneCod · 15/02/2008 13:01

and certianly not at work
was quite riusque

SilentTerror · 15/02/2008 13:08

It was all Lady Di frilly blouses and knickerbockers in 1981. KH looked more 1984 ish in last night's episode.

SueBaroo · 15/02/2008 13:11

foxinsocks, shh.

MrsTweedy · 15/02/2008 13:26

That was snap to the bra straps comment by the way (foxinsocks I bet PG would be mortified if he thought that!)

Bra straps and in general her outfits were all wrong - there is NO WAY she would have worn those outfits (or hair, or make-up) to work. Hair and make up right for going out but things were far more conservative then for work, i think.

Freckle · 15/02/2008 13:54

But the whole point is that she isn't from 1981, so she can dress how she likes.

SilentTerror · 15/02/2008 14:04

But where would she have bought that top in 1981?
Chelsea Girl and Topshop were all lady Di and New Romantics!!
(ST taking it all a bit seriously now...)
