Agree about Valentine's Shag...

Gene Hunt was PROPER dirty with me last night

Freckle · 15/02/2008 16:51

Well, as this is all in her mind, presumably she can buy whatever clothes she wants. Although you have to wonder why she chose that sofa......

jezzemx · 15/02/2008 18:07

Ahh it was brilliant. Loved GH and the stamping of the arse (and mooning) bit. I thought KH was a little bit better this week (just a little bit)
The street party for the royal wedding brought back happy memories. Mam and Dad bought me and my brother commemorative tops the only problem was that they were sweatshirts that had fleece on the inside and if I remember rightly it was a scorcher of a day but I wouldn't take it off because I loved Lady Di (I was only 7 or 8 at the time)
The music from last nights episode was fantastic.

Sunshinemummy · 15/02/2008 19:30

I read an article in The Observer that said they were dressing her in 80s with a knowing 90s twist, so bra straps kind of fit this. I really love the clothes and make up. She looked v. sexy in the lift.

Oh and Gene in his shiny grey suit, with black shirt and no tie is so yummy. Love the shots of him sitting in the restaurant.

By the way - was he wearing grey shiny pants last night or was I imagining that?

BearMama · 15/02/2008 23:13

Re all the fashion comments - reminds me of When LoM was on and set in 1973.
My DP who is 50 so remembers 1973, was FOREVER saying "They never wore that, you didnt have discotheques, that song didnt come out till later blah blah blah"
I said that it didnt have to be authentic cos it was Sam's interpretation of 1973. Being a bloke he didnt take this on board of course.
I think if I went back to 1981 (when I was 11) I would be imagining clashing stripes, New Romantics and shiny suits as well. I think the designers just watched lots of "I Love the Eighties" programmes.
But I have no complaints

ooh, thanks for that hanaflower...two of my favourite men !

fizzie · 21/02/2008 12:34

Favout=rite bit so far, when Gene Hunt is requested to pull someone in, declines, is offered bum stamp and says I'll get my coat. Fantastic!(wink)

BearMama · 21/02/2008 22:04

Ooh tonight's episode = sizzle!

but it takes the edge off when right after there is news of Steve Wright being arrested for killing five women.

Yes, agree with you about the news afterwards .

But some definite chemistry (although I didn't really feel the chemistry very much, but I could see I was supposed to ).

oh, he so would, wouldn't he?

I like the way the very macho characters are showing a softer side - presumably because Alex, as the cipher for them, is female.

Gene Hunt being a gentleman and then Alex shagging the other yuppie. She's very odd.

Next week looks fab.

oh, and the kebab line was very good.

turquoise · 21/02/2008 22:35

I liked the "women opening up" for Gene line, but thought this week's was very disappointing again. The plots are so feeble, though last week's was the best so far, and last week's soundtrack was fantastic - Flying Lizards, Tenpole Tudor, Visage, Dexy's...

Hope there's a soundtrack cd.

BearMama · 21/02/2008 23:42

I am thinking about this WAY too much

I think its hard to warm to Alex cos she's such a know-it-all, banging on about "figments" and "constructs". And I've worked out what I find so jarring about her character. In the present day her character seemed softer, for all her professionalism. In the 80's she's very hard-edged, like she's embodying the era a bit too much.
It's a bit too style-over-substance at the mo for me. All this attention to eighties detail distracts me from the plot - or maybe that's because it was "my" era?

I'm loving it. totally and absolutely. but then I didn't see even one episode of Life on Mars so have nothing to compare it unfavourably with.

BearMama · 22/02/2008 00:18

lol at the noddy crew, oops, and the GH comment.
Carmenere, that's the way to do it. Watch Life on Mars AFTER Ashes to Ashes and it will seem like a great prequel. Lucky you to have that to look forward to.
