We had a wear-what-you want day at school today in aid of UNICEF.
HAD to wear my Guv t-shirt, obviously. Mmmmm, Gene Hunt!

CaptainUnderpants · 08/02/2008 20:28

I joined the Police in 1986 , lotd of Gene Hunts in CID then trying on with the new female probationer or plonk !

Then the tables were turned as ten yrs later I become passed my promotion and they had to call me Sarg ! Oh the power !

rantinghousewife · 08/02/2008 20:29

Did anyone else hear the interview that KH did with Rossy on Saturday, she did say that Gene Hunt was very attractive but that she didn't find PG at all attractive

satine · 08/02/2008 20:30

Oooh, I love Madeleine Peyroux. I've almost worn her first CD out!!

SugarSkyHigh · 08/02/2008 20:31

ranting, i can understand what she means!

JackieNo · 08/02/2008 20:37

Bree/LGJ - on haircuts, presumably an Oakey rather than Oakley? After Phil Oakey from the Human League.

Life On Mars was a bit wierdy for me - was a police officer in M/c, recall 1973 vividly, had lived around the areas where it was filmed, and now I DO work in....Hyde!!

SugarSkyHigh · 08/02/2008 20:39

Pan, how creepy! i thought Hyde did not exist except in a time warp......

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 08/02/2008 20:40

Oh yes, JackieNo Oakley make sunglasses.

Pan · 08/02/2008 20:40

Sugar - lots of Hyde IS in a time warp....

JackieNo · 08/02/2008 20:41

Hey, look at the Number ones from 1981 - we've got some good ones, and some really dreadful ones. Shakin' Stevens and Buck's Fizz, anyone?

SueBaroo · 08/02/2008 20:41

I was thinking more about this today, and to be honest, Sam was quite annoying as a character at times - and at the beginning he was a properly sanctimonious twerp until he got with his inner-Gene and chilled out a bit.

So I'm confident she won't stay quite as uptight, and having watched it three times now, I think she's OK.

I am equally ok with manly wine-pouring, manly carrying while swooning or drunk and throwing on sofa, or sitting in the corner flirting drunkenly. Alcohol, Gene Hunt and rudeness appear to be the only necessary common-denominator.

CaptainUnderpants · 08/02/2008 20:44

Michael Jackson - One day in your life
oh pleeeasse pass me the sick bucket !

SugarSkyHigh · 08/02/2008 20:45

what about the JAM,weren't they having a few hits in 1981 as i recall??

well said suebaroo KH will be less uptight soon, i think she's great. And yes, Sam was pretty fucking annoying with all his risk assessments ffs

BTW I did not like KH's dd, found her rather annoying and if she were my own dd i wd gladly retire to 1881 let alone 1981

JackieNo · 08/02/2008 20:46

Lots of Blondie the year before, and Ashes to Ashes itself. Also 'There's no-one quite like grandma'.

OP posts:
Pan · 08/02/2008 20:48

I think the Jam had split by 1981, no? PW had formed the Style Council and Long Hot Summer the first hit was 82/83, or thereabouts.

rantinghousewife · 08/02/2008 20:48

The jam split in 1982 hactually!!

JackieNo · 08/02/2008 20:48

All the charts for 1981 - probably takes too long to look through them all.

SugarSkyHigh · 08/02/2008 20:50

Jackie, if I look at all that too closely it will give me too weird a feeling!!

too many long forgotten schoo discos...

rantinghousewife · 08/02/2008 20:52

Ah school discos, ours always went mental whenever Madness was played IIRC.

Pan · 08/02/2008 20:52

sorry ranting for my wild inaccuracy from memory 26 years ago!!

JackieNo · 08/02/2008 20:53

I know - it's weird, isn't it. It's from a time when I regularly used to record the top 40 on my tape recorder, so I can't hear those songs without imagining the DJ chat at the end and beginning.

OP posts:
SugarSkyHigh · 08/02/2008 20:53

or bloody 'oops upside yr head'
hated it then, would hate it now (if i heard it)!!

SugarSkyHigh · 08/02/2008 20:55

oh yes, recording the top 40!

and waiting to hear the NEW NUMBER ONE on a Tuesday ..... i think around lunchtime.

a cool boy at my Grange Hill type comp would listen on a small tranny radio and announce it. We thought it was so cool...

rantinghousewife · 08/02/2008 20:55

Don't worry Pan, it's obviously your age, love
