You know what I mean. Woman gets an inn (left in a will/wins/buys). Goes to a quaint town. Meets attractive but annoying man blah blah.
Very cheesy but I like them! Is it too early to start watching them? I want to see them all! Anyone with me?

I used to really enjoy these but I've gotten weary about the amount of romance in them. I'm a very cynical, middle-aged, extremely happily single type and I want to watch a movie about a happy single woman, who remains happily single throughout the movie. Sure she might bang the handsome local lumberjack but when he pees around her toilet instead of in it. She just nopes right out of that situation because no-one wants urine on their fuzzy Christmas socks.

Im a widowed mum and so many of these films have a widowed parent in them. I quite like it as it makes me feel more normal and I like that it normalises it for my teenagers too, so they don't feel like the only ones. (It's not just in Hallmark films it's in lots of films.) They do always find romance in the channel 5 type ones, not so much in non channel 5 type. Billy Elliot etc. I don't mind though even though I'm not looking for anyone myself for the time being

A Very Yorkshire Christmas is on ch 5 soon. That's a good one. It has Michelle Dotrice in it

TheLostNights · 17/12/2022 12:53

@Rummikub Yes, it was that one. I enjoyed it.

I agree that it would be nice to see some of the main characters stay single and be happy.

we’re watching the Mistletoe Farm one on Netflix at the moment - even if I didn’t know it was the same people as the Nativity! Films I’d guess it is - they are very similar in a comforting way…

Wanderingowl · 17/12/2022 16:17

I'm thinking about watching The Long Kiss Goodnight tonight. A 'Christmas movie' of the Die Hard type but cheesey asskicking woman goodness!

I recommend A kind Hearted Christmas on Netflix just to watch two people navigating how to pull a cracker badly .

omfg

seriously does no one actually research anything???

and agree that jennie garth does have crazy eyes-whoever posted about it up thread-once you see it you can't unsee 👀

ShakeYourFeathers · 17/12/2022 22:17

There's not the budget for that. They can just about afford to employ someone for half a day to quickly google things

Think that's due to Botox IMO . She had the same look on the 90210 reboot

I watched the two Sister Swap ones that were on C5. Same story but from two different sides. One sister goes home to parents for Christmas and the other one stays in the city. I enjoyed them, classic Xmas storyline but a different way of doing it.

Just googled - The Greatest Store in the World with Dervla Kirwan.
It rang a bell, was a tv special.

Just watching Christmas at the Palace on 4. Why do all European princes seem to have an English accent?

This afternoons viewing was the Christmas Chalet on Amazon Prime. It was alright but I was paying attention to the Christmas jigsaw

boys3 · 19/12/2022 20:42

Christmas jigsaw

which channel / streaming service is showing that @ShakeYourFeathers or was it an actual jigsaw? 😁

Definitely could be a hallmark film title.

Sorry it was an actual 1000 piece Christmas jigsaw. Bit of a Christmas tradition in the Feathers house

Oh definitely. She's a toy shop owner which sells jigsaws. He's lost the piece of a jigsaw which has been in the family for generations. She is selling the jigsaw. They fall for each other at the small towns Jigsaw puzzle competition

Of course

They have a child, who is desperate to complete this jigsaw otherwise Christmas is ruined

TheLostNights · 19/12/2022 21:58

Which films are set in Verrmont? Those are my favourites but don't seem to have watched any as yet this year.

ShakeYourFeathers · 20/12/2022 21:01

Not sure where's it's set but saw I believe in Santa on Netflix this afternoon. It was alright, nice story would recommend

boys3 · 20/12/2022 21:39

Watched Spotlight on Christmas (jilted Hollywood, but down to earth, actress returns to home town in Colorado). Quite low key but I enjoyed it.

that led us on to A Christmas Movie Christmas. Parallel universe concept. Only just starting so quite how it will turn out remains to be seen.

however lead man was also in Mingle all the Way (with Jen Lilley) which I’d recommend. He, with co-star spouse, also wrote the script for this parallel universe offering. Tongue in cheek already. Could be a good one.

All the Evergreen films are set in Vermont.

boys3 · 20/12/2022 21:55

Romance at Reindeer Lodge is another one. And I think at least filmed in New England.

Moonlight in Vermont is a Lacey Chabert one, although not a Christmas film.

boys3 · 20/12/2022 22:12

Could be a good one

or possibly a case now of watching in hope rather than expectation.

to the extent that I might retire to bed with a good book, and revisit tomorrow.

TheLostNights · 20/12/2022 22:22

Thank you x

I watched 'A kindhearted Christmas '. Was just OK.
